That is a great saying- thanks for sharing!

(and it especially applies during chemo when we are drawing on eyebrows and trying to not look too pasty!!)

    Love it. LOL

You women are the sweetest, giving me birthday wishes!  You make my birthday season special.

Luvmygoats, I am so glad you are on this thread.  You have excellent suggestions.  Sciencegal -- laughing at you running around with your dresses on!  No bras?!   I am surprised you have decided to wear any underthings at all! You are a maverick.  :)

Hmm.  I am thinking about your plight with the greasiness and the throwaway items.  I am thinking 'supersoft' ts by gap.  You could do a little skirt with them, a cotton slip on skirt.  Lands End has those, I know.  You could order them online.  And then you could save the skirts and throw out the shirts if they stain.

I am VERY 'into' supersoft t-shirts from the gap.  Don't be fooled.  Don't get 'body,' or 'classic,' or any other kind.  Get supersoft.  Wow.  This public service announcement makes me want to go put one on right now!

    Hi ladies,

First-time poster. I love to hear about other's indulgences.

My vice is definitely on-line shopping. 6pm.com has some good deals & you can search by brand & sort by price.

Our two-year-old tore a gaping hole (in our very old sofa, dating from my husband's bachelor days) by pulling a string, then working it over and over, so my splurge during recovery from BMX is a new couch! I never liked that old one anyway & of course we made sure to get a new one that is extra sturdy:-)

    Welcome Deb!

It sounds like that couch is a much-needed purchase.  So definitely get it.  But... you can do better than that for a treat :)

I was just thinking about how my retail therapy has slowed down considerably in the past few months. New boobs, new figure, new bras, new clothes, right? Oh, and SHOES.... had to have new summer SHOES...

    Then.... nothing...

Oh, just remembered... we bought a brand new travel trailer last month.

Somehow, that didn't give me as big a rush as the new lacy bras did! Wink

Hi Deb, welcome! Gosh it must be hard to go through all of this with a two year old. You are admirable. You need that new couch AND new shoes! Although it might be a bit of a challenge to run around after the little one in red high heels like Dulcigirl's. haha!

Bobo thanks for the advice on the supersoft tees- I will check those out for my "at home time", they sound great. But since I am currently a bit lopsided I need more forgiving fabrics for work that don't, errrr, hug my curves so to say. Think flowing sundresses!!! Stuff with ruffle tops is best haha. I will have more surgery later but not until after radiation and months healing from that. One week at a time!

    :)

Well... F people who think you are lopsided!  :)  How about a supersoft top, and then a beautiful scarf from Eileen Fisher draped over  your 'area'?  She has  a scarf tutorial on her website.  She even uses them to make a little 'vest.'  I have been wearing a tank, then an EF scarf belted as a vest.  But.. also... F people who are staring at my 'area' and measuring it!

If you do this, you can get a little skirt, and then you can mix and match. I find sundresses are harder to locate.  But... EF also has cute t-shirt dresses.  They are expensive, but I shop the sales and wait for a coupon.

    Sorry about my potty-mouth :)

haha I don't mind pottymouths. I have TONS of scarves- good idea!

I agree about people staring at the lopsidedness but they are just curious, I dont think they can help it. like looking at a train wreck. But those who do know about what I am going through (not many) honestly wish me the best.

Can't blame them for looking, I am constantly checking out "the girls" myself and waiting for that famous post-implant "drop and fluff." It is actually much better than when I first got the implant, and FAR better than that crazy tissue expander- wow on that! so I am hoping to wear tees eventually. Just not yet.

Bobo How is your purple hair streak holding up? I have a friend with magenta hair and in a recent post about her being on the AIDS ride they called her a "purple-headed bad@ss" That just cracked both of us up- and I thought of you! LOL

    (she also drives a minivan)

Sciencegal -- you have me laughing!  '...like looking at a train wreck...' That's so true and funny.

Sounds like you have two purple headed bad*ss friends with minivans!  My purple streak NOT holding up AGAIN.  I am a little sick of it!  Apparently you have to keep putting it in.  Oh, the upkeep in being a punk!  It is exhausting.

Hey Deb, if you have a kid and need a new couch, check out the IKEA couches that come with removable slipcovers. Some are machine washable AND dryable, and with kids and/or allergies it's nice to have that. I have the Klippan sofa. I just switched from denim to white slipcover, It was $79 ordered online. My calico cat is mainly white so I figured a light color would be easier to keep clean and white is cooler to nap on in the summer. God knows every surface of my home needs to be comfortable enough to sleep on. I have not had any luck being able to insert a pic of my hair with purple streaks (dammit) but I changed my avatar pic, I feel like it is SOO freeing to have color in my hair and want to encourage everyone to try it. I love it so much. bobogirl, I am sorry your purple is not as strong as you are. ; )

deb1973 - I think the couch is a necessity at this point. I'm with bobogirl. You can do better when it comes to a treat. And I don't think anyone can beat me when it comes to online shopping.

Dulcigirl - Girl, those are some fierce shoes. I feel an eBay visit coming on.

sciencegal - My surgery is on Monday. Lopsidedness here I come. Haha. I'm going to shop for a post lumpectomy gift for myself.

    Nice purple streaks, TarheeMichelle

Great advice regarding IKEA slipcovers.  XXX

Love the purple, love the ikea couch with slipcover idea, ...

My shoes are actually hot pink. I still haven't worn them "out." I got them on the way home from my first visit with my BS after getting my DX. Absolutely the first completely frivolous pair of shoes I've ever purchased. I remember walking into DSW in kind of a daze...seeing them and realizing that life is way too short to always have boring, sensible shoes. I figured they'd look good with my pj's while I was recovering.

I'm saving them for when I'm all done with the whole Build-a-Boob adventure. Nips in August...tattoos around three months later. Then....THE SHOES!

"Build-a-boob"- awesome phrase! You gals are cracking me up this AM.

    Dulci, love your shoe story.

Bobogirl, so sorry the streaks are fading. do they bleach out your dark hair first in the streak area, so that it is more porous? I guess you could get the spray-on, but what a hassle huh?

Maybe it is "planned obsolescence" like light bulbs- so that you have to go back to the hairdresser often.

Tarheel Michele your purple hair streaks are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing with us. You rock!

I am off to put on my nice tame Clairol beautiful collection- all I am allowed to use after the penguin caps. definitely NOT purple and NOT badass. But I DO have a big bad black truck rather than a minivan LOL.

Yes T Michelle -- you rock!

Scigal -- happy about your bad*ss truck!  Someone has to 'represent' for us!

You may be on to something regarding the hairdresser... yes, he did bleach it out.  But the stain just washes out!  You can actually see it coming out in the water. p.s.  It is vegan.  That cannot help things with regard to staying power...

Thanks everybody. Y'all are too sweet.

The hair color brand my stylist uses is Pravana. www.pravana.com It doesn't stay in more than a couple months. I use a solid coconut based shampoo by Lush (Trichomania) and try not to use much conditioner. And wash it as little as possible. Sometimes just twice a week. Sciencegal, your Rapunzel like hair is bee-yoo-tee-full!!

    Dulci, LOVE THOSE SHOES!

    Life is short. Stand tall!

I finally got over to Macy's this afernoon and got a wildly patterned pink and black dress- so much fun- and some silver jewelry. when people walk into my powder room at home where I have all my jewelry hung up their first response is usually "holy cr@p that's a lot of bling".

    But still I needed MORE!

Love the cancer card sometimes. Who said it- Dulcigirl?- never leave home without it.

I went to Ross last night after work and got some summer dresses - so much fun!

My friend went too and got new shoes.

A different friend has taken her cancer card retail therapy to a whole new level - she bought a new lexus! You go girl.

It's been a couple months, but the last time I was at Ross they had some super cute maxi dresses. Very summery.

And your friend who used her cancer card to buy a Lexus?? SWEET!!

I wish I was cleaning. Ha. Never thought I would say that but I had the lumpectomy on Monday, and I can't wait until I can clean the house my way. Haha.

I got these cute heels on eBay, but the seller cancelled the transaction because he was out of stock in my size! WTH? That bummed me out, but I'm still browsing for some more.

I did buy a can of Ricola from Thailand. I always wanted to store my Ricola in a jar or tin of some kind. Preferably, a vessel specific to Ricola. I haven't found any packaged that way in the US, so when I looked on eBay, there it was. It will arrive sometime at the end of July.

I already know I'm weird. Haha :-)  Have fun with your guests!

Bummer on the heels! I hope you find others just as cute, and feel better after your lumpectomy soon. But back to housecleaning? Ugh. I would welcome the time off - haha!

Is ricola the herb they put in cough drops?

I think Ricola is the brand, and they use some herbs from Switzerland.

Are you having people over for dinner?

Thanks! Glad you found the cool tin for them.

I have two girlfriends coming to stay over night tomorrow, and yes I will make them dinner. My house just needed so much cleaning that I had to start today! haha. Dining room table had become a junk pile.

I have been using my "get out of housecleaning free" cancer card lately, not proud of it but I have. I am well this week and it was time to dig in. Guests coming is a good reason to clean. But as you can see I am also taking lots of breaks!

Science gal!  So happy GFs are coming.  I think you should give them a lot of beer, then tie little mop things onto their feet, and let them move around the house that way, thus cleaning floor :)

The get out of housecleaning free version of the cancer card is one of the most popular. Anyone who goes through chemo has lifetime membership and no limit. Smile

And breaks are the best. I just took a looooong nap. Very nice. Whatcha gonna feed them?

LOL bobogal. Love it. Gotta make themselves useful. Laughing
