So...whats for dinner?

OMG Laurie! Those boys! And Happy Birthday! You deserve those cakes.
Okay, I have to say something not polite... not polite to Rachael Ray...I cannot stand Rachael Ray recipes! They are so unappetizing to me. Carole, did you get anything good at the shops?
Eric and Susan, still thinking of you guys. XXXX
-
Kids had cut out grilled cheese sandwiches and apples. I had apple and a BLT.
-
Happy birthday Laurie.
My mother lives north, very north, and she sent me a picture of her lilac bush, in full bloom, surrounded and covered by measurable snow. Beautiful picture. Maybe I will get around to posting.
Pulled some more merguez sausage out of the freezer tonight, served over wilted spinach with garlic, and tomato-onion bulghar. Man this sausage is good! Made up for the slightly wet bulghar.

Happy birthday, Laurie! You and your dh and kids are real troopers, enjoying your camping weekend despite the weather.
We grilled the marinated flank steak on a cast iron grill skillet on top of the stove since the outdoor grill isn't working properly. The steak was delicious, medium rare and sliced thin cross grain. The sides were boiled golden potatoes with Smart Balance margarine and light sour cream and a salad with baby romaine greens, tomato and cucumber.
Bobo, everything was on sale at Belk's and I found some bargains.
-
Happy belated birthday Laurie!

Sharon is having her exchange surgery tomorrow moring starting at 7am. So, we need to be there around 5:30 or so.
Shron's nose has been horribly plugged up and breathing has been a chore for her. . It is remisescent of years ago before she had nose roto-rooter surgery. This has been going on since about a week after she started taking the Arimidex and it is on the list of side effects for the stuff. While she's in surgery tomorrow, I'm going to call over to the oncologist to see if they have any ideas. None of the usual OTC "nose unplug" meds are working and she is absolutely miserable. I think if it's a choice of taking it and keeping the cancer at bay or quitting taking it..quitting will win...
Laurie, your boys look like they had a great time...snow and swimming....I'll bet they didn't want to get out of the pool. :-)
Who fell into the river? I'm guessing that was a *fast* exit!
Sciencegal..that's neat work..especially since it obviously helps others...like the neighbor across the street.. I had hoped that the screen name "fit".

Eric,
Hope that Sharon's surgery goes well today! Thinking of you both.
Laurie,
My parents took us camping a few times (in tents) and I swear it was feezing cold and raining everytime! Never did have snow though! Happy Belated B-Day.
((((( Deb and Lacey ))))) -
Eric, is a neti pot one of the things she's tried?
-
Good luck for sharon's surgery Eric!
I hope her breathing can get better. I take turmeriic which totally cleared up my asthma and sinus swelling, which I had for most of my adult life. Maybe ask the doc if she could try that?
Funnily enough I started taking this for its anti-cancer properties when I was diagnosed last October, and a beautiful side effect was that, within a week, it eradicated inflammation and swelling in my sinuses and lungs.
I use the Wild harvest brand from whole foods, 2 capsules am and pm. Not cheap (about $23 a bottle), but the asthma was on track to kill me off way quicker than the cancer - too many ER visits- and now I have no trace of asthma or sinus problems.
Also I had (so far-hoping, hoping) a complete response to the chemo drugs so it didn't interfere with their effects.
GOOD LUCK, i know sitting in the waiting room is tough, my sweet husband just went through that with my exchange surgery last thursday. He brought me a big white teddy bear when I woke up- a girl is never too "grown up" to cuddle a stuffed animal, in my opinion. -
Her surgeon just came out...all done...In another hour, I'll be allowed back to see her.
Eric -
Yay! So glad she is okay.
-
Oh good, Eric. My thoughts are with both of you. How wonderful that it is over and that you are able to be there with her. gentle hugs to Sharon. When she's feeling better, can she ask her doc about Flonase or maybe she has an infection.
I hope the next days go by quickly for you
Laurie, what beautiful and fun pictures and happy birthday to you!
I won't tell you what I had for dinner. It would make you gag.
-
Bedo...unldss it was some bug..I wouldn't worry about making anyone gag...
:-)

Eric: Thinking of you and Sharon. So glad all is well! Terrible about the stuffy nose. I second the neti pot idea, although I know it may not be quite what is called for here.
Carole, you must live in the South, like I do! Belk is wonderful. Sometimes I feel they are paying me to take stuff out of there! Was just thinking of getting some new towels and linens there.
What's for dinner? No idea. Am working two of three jobs at the moment. Hopefully DLLP will hand me a hot bowl of something at 7:30.
Laurie: did you get spanks from your boys? And how many spanks? Happy Birthday!
-
You asked for it Eric. Fish sticks and frozen brussle spouts. Don't mention them to Sharon. I know you will make her something yummy
-
Thanks for all the well wishes! :-)
We're home. She's laying down after taking a Vicodin and is listening to music.
Bedo....Hopefully the brussle sprouts were thawed out. I was thinking along the lines of some of the all natural high protein foods.
-
Eric- So glad everything went well for Sharon! My youngest fell in the river. The kid never listens. But DH was inches from him and yanked him right out- but he did 100% submerge
I agree with the neti pot and flonase. I do both every day for chronic sinus issues and find them a huge help. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes. No one spanked me- what a jip! LOL! But I did get to take a nap in the rain and DH made me breakfast which was wonderful. Also, DH gave me cash he had been saving up for me to buy my flowers this weekend to plant. A always feel guilty on spending money on flowers and I LOVE to make the yard beautiful. This way I can do it guilt free. The boys and I will make our trip this weekend with my brother and have loads of fun picking them out.
I am making chicken cutlets to go with left over stuffed shells from camping. Everyone should eat happily that way and I can clean out leftovers.
-
Laurie, will you be getting snapdragons for the boys?
-
Glad everything went well for Sharon and she's home!
Tonight is leftover grilled kielbasa, a potato roesti and some fried apples. For dessert, instead of the leftover key lime pie, I think I'll have one of the homemade cinnamon rolls my wonderful friend brought me yesterday. Or maybe I'll just skip the dinner and go straight to the cinnamon rolls

-
Nancy, I vote for the cinnamon rolls! Yum.
-
Cinnamon rolls. Definitely.
Laurie, that is such a thoughtful present your DH gave you. He sounds like such a love.
-
So we talk a lot about dinner but how about snacks? I need some good snack ideas.
-
chabba- Each boy gets their own large planter and gets to choose what they want to plant in it. We put them out by the pool with the other planters I do. They LOVE to pick and plant their own things. It makes them very proud.
-
-
Eric,
So glad to hear that today's surgery went well.
*susan*
-
What a good idea. I bet it is fun to see what they pick to plant.
-
Laurie.does either boy like sunflowers? Chrissy planted a couple of seeds 13 years ago. They continue to sprout...
-
Gotta vouch for the cinnamon roll, it was delish!
-
Eric- We got sunflower seeds to plant along the fence this year plus DS2 started a bunch of things from seed to attempt a small garden. My boys love gardens and flowers and I try to nurture that.
I need to go to bed. I never want to- love the peace of the house when everyone is asleep!!
-
Sunflowers are awesome.
Dinner tonight was the chicken & Jasmine rice dish. Both Sharon and DD requested it....
Sharon says it feels like someone stepped on her chest, but that the Vicodin is strong enough to keep the pain under control.
Thanks again, everyone.
Eric
