Love the cute little Goldfinch at the feeder. I envy the Pelicans with their ocean antics. Thank you Lisa. As always, you take beautiful pictures.
-
Yay, the orioles arrived today! Had both northern (Baltimore) and orchard at the jelly feeder this morning. Still waiting for the house wrens. They're late to the party.
-
I saw these in the zoo...
Some gray days are better than sunny days..today was one..wish I could have stayed longer
-
Lovely pics Lisa. Very pretty ducks.
-
I have been sitting on my patio watching all the birds fighting over the hummingbird feeder..there are all kinds in the action..yellow ones, brown ones and hummers...it is hard to take pictures now that the leaves have filled in the trees..they are hiding...
-
I got some wonderful pictures of a Pileated Woodpecker going at a Maple tree beside our house. I wish I had the wherewithal to get them on to my computer and then to this thread. He's very handsome and a tenacious fellow for sure. He must go through Advil like crazy.
You should see the pile of wood chips at the base of the tree.
Our hummers should be coming back soon.

A copper's hawk just smacked into the living room bow window while trying to catch a blue jay at a suet feeder. Damn, took off before I could get a photo! The month of May, we stop filling the suet feeders and nightly bring in the seed feeders because of raccoons and skunks. Occasionally, rabid raccoons and skunks in the North Country.
May 1st, I'll put out the hummingbird feeder. Sweeties will have cold nights.
-
Teka, how far are you from the border to Canada?
-
1 hour!
-
we are 15 minutes from Mexico
-
We're around 1/2 hour away. Lisa I recall some of your pictures showing both the Mexican and American side. It was neat to see.
-
Well, the orioles have arrived en masse. Four males and a female fighting over jelly this morning. What a beautiful way to start the morning!
-
so nice you have orioles..not here boo...
I saw these in bloom for the first time this year, again not in my yard
-
Epiphyllum?
-
Lovely blooms!!

Saw my first red winged black bird today! Put out a new feeder and BAM!
Lost a few trees due to hurricane Sandy. Had to soil and seed the ground where the trees stood. I've been outside everyday watering the seed, waiting patiently for the grass to grow. These last few days I've had company while watering! This robin keeps flying down and following my hose while i water my garden! It's hilarious! My husband didn't believe me when I told him about my new companion! Yesterday, I made him watch me watering and sure enough, down swooped my new friend! -
Think you are right, Nancy,
-
Smart robin is looking for worms to surface while you're watering the garden.

LOLOL, get a load of those legs. It looks like they may have LE around the knee area.
I have no idea what kind of bird that is but the hook bill would indicate a bird of prey perhaps?
-
A Screaming something..
-
i believe it is called a creasted screamer..
-
Here is start to adult pix I have of the flamingo life, starting at building the nest
-
Teka! That makes sense because I saw other birds digging their beaks into the wet soil! Yesterday, my daughter and my friend were sitting on our front porch and my friend commented that she never saw so many howling birds! I know this is the time of the year that birds migrate through my area, but I can honestly say I have never seen as many birds before this spring arrived! Amazing!
-
VR - I, too, seem to have many more birds and many more bluebirds than I've ever seen out here. Never saw any robins, but then like I said most years I don't. Wonder if they hang more in the city.
-
The robins love hopping where a water sprinkler has soaked the ground.
Cute photos!!
-
The robins love when my DH mows, as do the barn swallows.
-
Missy Bluebird (Eastern) is sitting on her eggs. The bird box is on our back fence.
-
House finch babies, just outside my front door. They are finally looking like something other than fuzzy blurs.
Brightens my day when I check on them. There are 4 & the mom occasionally leaves the nest. Gives me an opportunity to peek/babysit. About 1 week old now.
-
Coral, the babies are just beautiful! The migrants and summer arrivals have been slow in NJ this spring and this weekend is the World Series of Birding. I'm guessing the counts will be low, but you never know. I follow a post-doc who tracks migration by overnight doppler: http://www.woodcreeper.com
Looking forward to this weekend's birding!
