Hey 3jays! So nice to hear from you! Glad you got the all clear in your legs at least that's one bit of good news for you. Mmmm pool time can have a lifting effect in the mood as can the sun........glad you are now able to get a bit of both.
Haven't heard from or of Isabella since the news she was in hospital with no access to the net........it's starting to get us all on edge but I guess in one way, no news is good news. Hoping she is doing fine.

Good Morning-friends, have been working on an issue with a member. Wanted to share with you all the note below b/c of it's importance. Hope you find it useful Sassy
(members name deleted) Glad the link helped. If you get the AARP magazine this months issue (probably dated may 2013) , there is a story about the safest hospitals and what safety procedures that are in place that cause them to be safe. The article cites that 180,000 people die a year due to medical/surgical errors AND 400,000 drug errors are made a year. The articles states that these numbers are likely higher b/c these are the ones that are reported. I agree. I know you've seen where I've said on the threads "Sorry etc for too much info, just want too make you(BCO memebers) safer". Guess I should stop apologizing for writing stuff in this regard. These numbers are higher then the last set of numbers that I had known. The problem is either getting worse OR there is better reporting. I'll go with better reporting.
It cited that one of the safety items was having an ICU Intensivist. It cited that only 35% of hospitals had Intensivist. I was dismayed at this percentage since residencies for Critical Care Medicine have been available since the 1980's. Truly thought by now that the "industry" would have been driven by demand for better care that this statistic would be 70 to 80%. ICU medicine is absolutely in need of a specially trained doc. Just as in all subspecialties of the American Medical Association(AMA), the knowledge and skills of this subspecialty are critical to survival when a patient is at this level of need.
I'm going to post this on the threads, I'll take off identifiers. My hope is those seeing this will locate a copy of the AARP article. Read it throroughly. Then question there local hospitals on each item. Based on what they elicit re:safety of each facility, they can choose the safest hospital near them for care. It can mean the difference between life and death, and or avoidable complications. Spreading the word to others regarding this may save lives.
Your description of where your friends daughter is now is typical. So, the care may have been fine or she recovered in spite of them. I'll go with the care b/c of your description of how she appears now. What was truly lacking here was the communication in lay terms to the family of was what was going on with the patient. All the lay person then can do observing is assume, as in this patients case, there appeared to be fractured care delivery and choas. What can the untrained person concluded observing this. As in all care, communication is the center of it all. Very often even the care givers question what the recovery will be. AND then the patient pulls through. Continuing with evaluating the records will lend a lot to the understanding of this event.

I love the international flavor of this group!

Great pic, Alyson! You both look beautiful.
Hey 3jays! It's so good to see you here and so glad about the all clear on your legs. I do hope you'll be able to get out to the pool and the sunshine soon. The sun and fresh air has a way of making people feel better than being cooped up inside. I too am worried about Isabella and wish we'd hear something. Several of us have checked on FB with no success, and the last thing we heard was as Chrissy said.
Went shopping this afternoon with DD and DDIL at Carter's Children's Clothing store. We had a great time buying for the two DGSs and DD's baby girl to be. Baby clothes are so much cuter now than they used to be, with all the bright colors. Apparently nobody sells baby gowns anymore, though, and I loved those when my children were babies--so easy for diaper changes instead of unsnapping and re-snapping those little suits. We took baby Aiden with us since SIL's nursing and even he had a good time, I think. A very good day, despite the chill and rain.
Hope everyone has a happy Sunday!

Hi lisa2012, I don't recall seeing you here before so welcome! If you have been here before, it great to see you........lol. My memory is sort of scrambled at times so forgive me.
Kathy I love looking at all the baby thing that are now available. The colors are bright and sassy unlike the white and pastels we used. One thing I have noticed a lot with the new mums is they don't seem to use singlets(vests I think you call them). I was amazed when my nieces were born and my SIL didn't use them........we always thought they helped to keep babies temp regulated.......maybe it's an old fashioned thing......lol.
Aly that's a great pic of you and Rae! Which I was there to make it the three of us again......oh what fun that was! I still remember our sojourne around Auckland......lol.
Well I started with the ribbon embroidery trials yesterday but I think I'm going to have to get a different hoop and stand as the one I have is for quilting and just a little too big and awkward. The technique seem to be okay as they look like they are supposed to but I have to get my ribbon lengths right or I will end up waiting a lot. Each time it is pulled through the fabric, it is so delicate that it gets damaged so the trick is to only have on your needle what is required for that one flower.......mmmm a little tricky but I will get used to it. I think I'm going to check and see if the biggest craft store in the city runs a few classes just to get some of the finer points down pat.
Enjoy what's left of your weekend!
Love n hugs. Chrissy -

Wow I have been out of pocket for a few days and had to read 5 pages to get caught up! Love this group of friends.
I too am worried about Isabella, does anyone have any clue how to get in touch with her? I can't remember who got word on her the last time.
Aly - that picture of Miss Bea is so cute. She is a little doll and that smile is infectious. I know you love her "to the moon and back" as my DD#2 says. (The saying started with I love you this much with her arms stretch out as far as she could reach then I would say "I love you more" and she would keep adding distances to her that seemed really far away until it ended with "I love you to the moon and back". That was when she was about 3 years old and not she is 38 and she starts with "I love you to the moon and back." The whole family says that now.) So glad you got to be with Rae and enjoy some time together.
Chrissy - I miss you my friend and I am still planning on coming to see you before too much longer. I was bummed that I could not make it last month when we went to Japan, but DH was right.) And don't you dare tell him I said that!!!! It would have been more than I could have handled. It took me 2 weeks to recover from Japan even though I wanted to stay much longer and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The Japanese people are so courteous and respectful of the elderly and handicapped. They made things as easy for me as was possible, nothing was in a hurry and everything was attended to with perfection to the last detail. They are amazing people, not job is too small or insignificant to not pay attention to the smallest details while doing. Maybe we could both take a trip together to Japan and maybe Hawaii then back to Australia. What a dream that would be, too bad it take money to do things like that. Which reminds me--- what is the currency of Australia? Is there a limit on how much foreigners can convert to your currency?
They are still searching for what is causing my headache, with no answers yet. I will keep you all posted on what they find if anything. They did find out I do have a brain up there, but that is about it.
Joy and blessings. AJ
-
AJ, did you take any pix in Japan?
-
Yes, but I cannot post them here for some reason, either from my phone or computer. If I get a chance tomorrow I was going to post some on facebook and try from there.
-
Oh AJ that trip would be magical but very expensive......lol. I was disappointed that you couldn't come but I do understand. Your health and well being come long before my pleasure. I'm not sure on the amount that is allowed to be converted but I sure can find out for you. I think its about $10,000 but don't quote me on that yet. Yes we work in $'s as well and I think our $ is running at almost parity to yours........anyway, I know it's close but as all currencies, it fluctuates.
If you want some pics posted and still have trouble, just email the to me and I'll post them for you.
So good to hear your voice again on the boards, you have been missed.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

-
Leah, good to see you again. How are you doing?
-
happy you are safely home AJ...that was a long, long trip..

It was me who got in touch with Isabella. I did it from facebook, a private message. I havent heard from her since then. Maybe more private messages to her would help. I am worried about her too.
I will love to see the Japan photos!
Hugs Ginger
