That's beautiful Jackie - you must get a lot of rain to keep that type of vegetation up
I see maples?Athena - that sounds so painful. Are you able to find a comfortable sleeping position? That would make it even worse. And yes, I noticed you were gone and wondered. I think these nerve things eventually pass, or the least I can say, they are not permanent.

Maples, Walnut, pecan, some oaks, and candlestick pines along with some forsythia, burning bush and other assorted growths....really have to watch out for the poison ivy, but we have spray for it. wild blackberries that have become too overgrown to go after now. We get a good share of water usually, but not an overt amt. Last yr. was a terrible drought year and I'm hoping for more normal this one.
Rt. now the creeks are all over the banks and I know they have been spilling the lake behind us. We don't live too far from the dam. Often see herds of deer heading through the ravine on their way to the lake to drink water.
Born here and raised about four miles from here. Lived in several states, the last being southern California -- Santa Barbara/Ventura area for 25 years. Beautiful there....lived about a mile from the beach and adored it, but when Dh needed a medical retirement we chose to come back to my home town. I discovered that I had missed the seasons ( though they are a lot of work ) and the wild-life --- more here now than was here when I was a child. This is it for me now.
Plenty around in the cities surrounding us if you want excellent shopping, dining, theater, sports, but then you can come home to peace and quiet.
Off to my recliner for the night. Best of both worlds for me.

Thank you everyone for your sweet thoughts. Sandy - I have a veritable cabinet full of braces, slings, etc... all to no avail. Paula, I will take all prayers.
Sleeping on my left side helps - or so I thought. Pain has migrated to left shoulder. Gr.... Sometimes the diaphragm hurts. THank God it's not mets, though.
Can't write much either. At its worse, the pain is a 9 out of ten.
Athena, the TWO legged lioness!
-
Oh, sollocks, to quote a Noel Coward play.
Off to hospital again. Pain is beating the meds again. Blah!

-
Suzieq, love the video!!
-
Athena-I'm sorry you're in so much pain. I hope it gets under control soon.
Chickadee-congratulations on the scans!
Gardengumby-what's the news on your lung scans?
Way too much to catch up on here...
Oh, and I can't tell if I'm Kram or Sham so I won't be changing my name on here. I'm loving the other names, though.

Athena, ooh, pain sucks. Glad you're getting a handle on it. Oops, just read back to the hospital. Sounds like you don't have a handle on it. I'm pulling for you!!
Chickadee, thankful for your good news. Sorry about. Our son's job. Hope something better comes soon for him.
PsychoLibby, you crack me up!
E, no riding? What?? For how long!! -
I've been asleep allllllll day, going to go try to sleep the rest of tonight.
Athena so awful the pain you are experiencing. Hoping docs can get it under control. Pain is the worst.
Sleep, wonderful sleep.....I want some more. Lights out. -
(((Athena))) I can't imagine the pain you are going through right now. All digits crossed for RELIEF.
-
Athena, good grief! How on earth did you do that? What are rhomboids anyway?
-
Just had an xray and ct scan. Hope it is nor cancer.
-
Athena, I hope it is not the beast either, but probably a good idea to rule it out.
-
Looks like cancer to spine. More confirmation later. Story of my life.
-
Oh well. At least i wont worry about being in dangerous neighborhoods.
-
FFFFFFF!!!! ((((((((Athena)))))))
-
No fuckin way!

WHAT?!?! Athena, I hope this is a false alarm. I've been scanning this thread, knew you were in a lot of pain, and just now saw that you must have gone to the hospital (ER?) overnight (judging by the time stamp) and had imaging done. Big hugs and hopes that further tests rule out cancer. I'm so, so sorry you have to go through first the pain, now this.
E, on the riding . . . does your Dr understand how important it is to you? In my experience as a runner (confirmed by others), a lot of Drs don't -- they think of it as just one extracurricular activity among many, no big deal -- and are pretty casual about telling you not to do it. Sometimes, when pressed, I've had them back off and/or offer more measured recommendations (like, you can run but not race). Is the concern about injuries from potential falls? Are there things you can do to minimize the risk?
I hope, hope, hope you're cleared to ride soon, and that in the meantime, you can still take pleasure from being around horses -- grooming them, smelling their horsey smells, getting nuzzled by them. (That doesn't work so well with runners; it's less pleasurable, plus the runners look at you kind of funny, hahahaha.)
Today is colonoscopy prep day for me -- clear liquids only, the nasty stuff tonight. I have a stack of magazines set aside to keep me occupied in the bathroom.
(BTW, I'm loving all the new usernames. Was thinking of changing mine to "pyschoUnionThug" or something like that.)

Damm - just missed out on cheap airfares to NZ in December for one of my uncle's 60th wedding anniversary - hopefully there will be more sales before then. I'll use any excuse to go home for a visit - yes I may live in Oz but I"m still a Kiwi at heart.
-
Athena....WTF??!
-
lewing - Yes, my onc is worried about falls. I have an eventing vest (sort of like a bullet-proof vest for riders) that I can take in to show him. Maybe he'll let me ride as long as I wear it? There are also inflatable vests, sort of like wearable air bags. I can dig myself yet deeper into debt and buy one of those if he'll let me ride. Those suckers cost $500 - $1,000. Blurgh.
Where is Athena? (((Athena)))
stinkinmoney - Who is talking ill of which dead? Tell me.
-
Some nasty Christians, and I use that term loosely! (You kow them well.) Talking crap about Michael Jackson. They are as ill informed about him as they are about everything else!
-
What goes around, comes around.
Sometimes, being a Christian means supreme self-righteousness and wielding nasty with perceived impunity. I stay away from such people.
-
I know the type very well. They go to church every Sunday, but spew hate on the way there and then on the way home. Like I said, I have more Christianity in my nail clippings.

And here's a picture of a horse!
