So we in Canada had some arrests yesterday of a couple of fellows who were thinking it might be a good idea to do some damage to our passenger rail system. There are questions about the timing of the arrests (I wonder about political opportunism) but the fact is that these guys did not get to do their damage. The tip came from the imam showing that the Muslim community is as fed up with this nonsense as everyone else.

Hi all, sitting in the infusion chair feeling drowsy. Waved my ipad around until it grabbed a signal.

Nicely BORING results! 30% reduction in main liver lesion, all others stable, bone stable and a lot of big words I don't understand. The egg sized lymph node disappeared.

So we will keep on keeping on. My birthday cruise should be doable in June! Yeah!

E, I thought riding was therapeutic. Couldn't you just hug your sweety while she walks softly along? Stress reducer.

Wait a minute - I thought doctors are suppose to tell you "Do it if it feels ok."  What happenned to that Rx?  How is riding Sampson going to hurt you if you feel ok doing it E??

Chickadee - only good news for you!  Oops - crossposted.  SO HAPPY FOR YOU!

Athena - sorry you are in pain.  Don't know what to say about the love part.

HL - I think about your upcoming retirement vis a vis my own recent experience, as well as several friends.  The good news - we all love love love it, still!!!  Sometimes I think about taking on a little job - like math tutoring, or something fun, but when I resent having to get up for an 8am doctor's appointment, I realize that structure ain't all that it's cracked up to be.

We're in the gorgeous days of April here where I live...still snow in the mountains, the fruit trees blooming and I love my Hellebores this year.  Planted Kale a month ago and hoping for a good harvest.

I know, and have worked with, several people of the Muslim faith.  They are, indeed, terribly upset that a few radical jihadists have given their faith a bad name.  They are ready to provide any intel they may have inadvertently learned to the authorities to prevent tragedies such as the one in Boston.

It's alarming to hear and read about the rabid hatred of some Americans (and yes, some Canadians too) for the Muslim community.  Of course, other immigrant minorities (meaning anyone not Scots or English) in North America suffered from prejudice and bigotry, so we don't seem to have evolved very much.  An old family friend (Jewish) who grew up in Toronto all too clearly remembered seeing signs saying "No Jews or dogs allowed".  He dearly hopes NEVER to see any sign that says "No Muslims allowed", and yet there are far too many folks who would be happy to erect such signs.

ETA:  Chick -  Hip hip hooray for your oh-so-boring results!!!

HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY DANCE FOR CHICKADEE.

SO good when the bad stuff works.  Hope you are thinking "cruise" for the rest of your infusion...and enjoying all the goodies we've stuffed in your pockets - tho' probably some of the chocolate got squooshed by the Happy Dancing.

E - no woids, well, done that wouldn't get me banned.  There has GOT to be a way - just has to be.  Thinking along the same lines as Kam - it FEELS SO GOOD - maybe if you really ( REALLY) padded the saddle.

Athena - sorry to hear your troubles - hope all works out ok.   Guess I missed a lot of the "namecalling" you refer to , unless it was the bartender's post - and I agree with her, don't consider it name calling, but know we differ on these things.

E - crap! Second opinion perhaps?

I saw the most outrageous post elsewhere concerning Democrats being mass murderors. I didn't take time to research the whole list because I have a life. But I did remember Jared Lee Loughner being a registered Independent so went to look for a link to that:

    http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20028120-503544.html

Some people would be better off if they didn't believe everything they read on the internet, and worse than that pass it on unsourced. Really step out and read a variety of opinion. The world will look better, brighter, more cheerful.

Chick, I don't call it boring -- I call it downright celebratory wonderful! Whatever we call it, YIPPEE SKIPPEEEEEE!!!

E, so sorry about doctor's edict. Maybe it is a just-for-not-till-we-find-out.

Missed out on namecalling (daaaaaang, and I do so love a good fight) but agree with Bartender's statement a couple pages back. Not like I could see anything but blue lines should we be invaded, and I never go out looking for crap to disgust me.

Athena, so very sorry that you're hurt and in pain. I really hope you don't need surgery and that you can get the pain under control.

One of the things that many people don't understand (almost all of the haters and a surprising portion of reasonable people) is that "infidel" in Islam does NOT refer to Christians or Jews. Perhaps some Muslims don't understand that as well. Infidel means "without faith" and refers to pagans. Christians and Jews are called "people of the Book" - meaning people of the Bible. Like many things, the word has been twisted by those with evil agendas. And I have seen plenty of Muslims outraged and saddened by atrocities committed in the name of their religion, just as moral Christians are outraged and saddened by people like that man who murdered Dr. George Tiller IN A CHURCH, or people who bomb abortion clinics and kill people and claim they are doing it because they are good Christians. All people of good will reject the false and cynical use of religion to try to justify murder and torture and hate.

    Amen to that, PL.

I had a great-aunt (Isabelle) who was a Christian missionary in India. She -- and thousands like her -- were sent by their churches to those parts of the world whose peoples they considered heathen.  Spread the Word!  Spread the Gospel!  Turn all those heathens (infidels??) into good Christians.  Make them believe the same things we believe!

Now we have "good Christian folk" complaining about the spread of the Muslim faith.  What they're really doing is spreading FEAR about those who believe in the very same Abrahamic God, but who follow a different prophet and different religious "laws".  A little understanding about others might help.  Then again, sadly, maybe not...

Sorry if I sound irritable everyone. I have plenty of love in my life. I DETEST whining, so my sincere apologies.

I woudn't give haters any more pubicity but exposing them. That just spreads their word. So what if those inbreds Beck and Limbaugh can't keep their useless traps shut? The trailer trash they serve probably only has one dial on the transistor anyway. :-)

Don't know if anyone has pointed this out, as I have been somewhat MIA, but the two Boston suspects are CAUCASIAN - more white that "you and me" - they hail from the Caucasus.

Finally, the US's largest trading partner is Canada, so we are interdepndent countries. Canadians have every right to criticize us - as we do them.

Hope I remember penning this in an hour. Valium and Oxycodone don't exactly do wonders for one's brain.

Hugs to everyone and I hope I haven't insulted any pridemate.

Ooh, Kam, I forgot (you are on the previous page) - there is severe retirement envy among my friends at work! Several times a day, someone stops by my office to ask "How many days?" I seem to have started a trend, too. Our webmaster (who does not work for me but works closely with me) announced that he wasn't staying very long after I go -- he is leaving no later than the end of the year, probably before. A couple of other long-timers said that my decision galvanized them -- apparently nobody thought I would actually retire, even though things have been pretty crappy at work lately (and getting crappier for the foreseeable future!)

DH keeps telling my little man Forrest that soon Mommy will be at home for pets every day. Little man doesn't understand "soon" and looks disappointed or tragic every day when I leave.

My office is cleared out of the big stuff - I have the trinkets on my desk yet to pack up. Retirement package is in personnel, but the benefits person is a bag of hammers ... She called me to tell me I forgot to include the part about continuing FEGLI. I don't have FEGLI. *sigh* I am waiting on my certified summary of service which she promised me last Thursday. They have asked me what kind of goodbye party I want (hell YES I want a retirement party!) and when. And every time I do something I don't really like, I just say, "Well, this is the last time I'll have to do THAT!"

And the books and the yard and the gym and my cats are patiently waiting. Well, except the yard. The weeds are happily growing! :-)

Kam ... LOL  I also hate to make any kind of appointment anymore.  I gotta be someplace at a certain time?  Oh crap! Yep ... structure is highly overrated.  And Libby will be joining us soon on the bench wondering how in the world she managed to survive going off to work all those years.  And then a couple more of our not quite sure of when yet friends?

The Canadian authorities have just managed to prove that cooperation with the Muslim community can work much better at stopping terrorism attacks than demonizing them does.  Good work on the part of all involved!

Wonder if the Tea Party has had a talk with Rick Perry yet?  They have got to be outraged about his asking for taxpayer money when they all know that private sources are so much more appropriate and efficient.  I'm sure they have steered him back on the righteous path to the company owner and his insurance company instead.  I never listen to Rush but I can imagine the spittle that must be flying out of his mouth about someone they thought was one of their own wanting to 'suck at the government teat' as he so elegantly tends to put it.   What???  Not happening you say??!!

Sending (((big hugs))) to E and Athena.  Hopefully the riding advice is because Doc is just scared to tell you to go ahead right now until they know more.  Healing vibes sent out in the direction of our lioness too ... hope what ails you gets better fast.

Chickadee ... good news!  Birthday cruise here you come!

    Raining here again ... blah.

HL - you're doing it right.  Move stuff out of the office, a box at a time, til all you have to do is turn out the lights on your last day.  I didn't have that luxury, but STILL, it was an easy transition with only 4 weeks notice.  Just came back from a hike in the woods (I live in the forest, so this is not a big deal).  So nice to not have to arrange such around work - usually impossible.

Anyway, I left on January 3rd, and my first true retirement check comes May 1, so not bad.  I got about 80% in the meantime.  All went smoothly.  Believe it or not, because of all the stuff they take out when you are working, it's just about the same as my salary, if I pretend there are 2 weeks in every month and in my case, I am paying far less in taxes.  Not that my full salary was easy to live on!!

Athena - what happened to you???

    Hi Everyone,

Wanted to take a minute and tell Chickadee I am so happy about the stable news.  I'm grinning from ear to ear and so happy she will be able to go on her cruise.

Very sorry to hear that E's oncologist has told her not to ride.  That sucks.  Maybe he's worried about putting pressure on the L-spine.  Sending lots of love and good wishes on the biopsy Thursday.

Would y'all keep Tim in your thoughts.  He has surgery Friday at Baptist Hospital in NC.  I think I'm more scared than he is.

    hugs to all,

    Bren

oooohhhhhh....bren, hope it isn't tooooo serious surgery - but then, ANY surgery on someone we love is SERIOUS.  Good thoughts, prayers, and that includes BOTH of you - so, so hard to do the wait while another is in surgery. ooohhh...gives me good bumps just thinking about it....how many of us do you figure he'll want in his pocket?  Well, at least send him all good wishes from the Spangled Scooter Gang, E still leads, we've put special padding on her seat.

WHICH I also think can be done on a saddle, shock absorbing material, good for wonky ( temporarily) spines...when a friend of mine was learning to ride, she wore LAYERS of adult diapers - might've looked a bit funny, but she had FUN and learned with not too sore a bottom.  Where there's a will, etc.

I'm seconding everything Alexandria said plus including many thoughts for Tim on Bren's behalf.  I agree with Sun -- if you love someone, any operation is serious.

Rained a good part of the day here...was expected.  Watched a red fox this morning running through my lane.  Trees are filling in and we are seeing less and less.....though we only have two others houses on the lane.  Would have to yell really loud to be heard.  I would have such trouble living anywhere else.

There is always peace here no matter what dumb and completely stupid things turn up elsewhere.  Of course, I avoid many of those because I stay away from certain news channels and even a few other places.  I don't have anyone blocked -- yet, but could and would if need be.

See you later.  I'll be checking my picture pictures later to see if anything comes up.
