Dinner out last night at the club where we play golf. I had a birthday coupon for a free entree. I had the beef tournedos with gorgonzola and glace. The sides were tiny asparagus and a potato dish. Also a salad that was very good. A wedge of butter lettuce with toasted pecans and blue cheese. Everything was delicious.
Tonight we're going to the Abita Opry, which begins at 7 and ends at 9. Dinner will probably be a hotdog or a bowl of gumbo from the concession stand.
Glad the manhunt is over. Cannot understand why a young man with so much going for him (the younger brother) would throw away his life the way he did. He must have been drawn in by the older brother. Such a pointless tragedy and lose-lose for everyone affected. The only plus in the whole event was the police work.
I will post the recipe for the Stuffed Artichoke Casserole. I liked it a lot.

I, too, am glad the Boston manhunt is over. The answers will not be satisfactory, nor will they make sense to us.
I probably didn't watch the news coverage like everyone else. I didn't seek out the news, but when I did see it, I was watching the fire/police/emergency medical response to the incident..instead of the incident itself.

Second time, Minus am thinking of you. Second, Versed wasn't so much creepy as disorienting. I thought that I was at work and then would open my eyes and see....Recovery Room! Then go back to sleep/"work" then ...Recovery Room! Recovery Room/"Work"/Recovery Room!/"Work" etc. I want my overtime!
I may not have a job soon anyway. I filed a formal complaint against my boss. They love that. Am worried about my landlords, they are in thier 70s and one with pneumonia. They need the rent early again, today before the first, and I lost my bro's phone # when I lost my cell. I am worried about him too, as he had been living in his car and I was giving him money, so I need my job.

Here are 2 green smoothies for you and everyone. I hope it's OK to publish it was in "Real Simple" magazine at the colonoscopy center.
Kale smoothie with pineapple and banana:
1/2 C coconut milk, 2C stemmed and chopped Kale, 1 1/2 C chopped pineapple 1 banana. Put all in blender with 1/2 C water and puree for 1 minute. Add more water to desired consistancy
Spinach Smoothie:
1 1/2C apple juice, 2C stemmed and choped spinach or kale, 1 apple chopped, unpeeled and cored, 1/2 avacodo chopped. Combine all and puree for 1 minute or until smooth. Add water for desired consistancy.
Bobo, don't marry these girls, they are all just a bunch of flirts. Blood is thicker than water. You can live with me in my one room cabin with 2 sometime dogs, 2 cats and an occassional DD or DB. You can help me with violin. I'm trying Cajun. Tempting, eh? You betcha! No dishwasher. We will buy paper plates and recycle them.
Going to work in the Community Organic garden. It's a work day and I've had a plot for 3 years. Hope the bees give honey this year!

Bedo... Thanks for the recipes, plan to try in a couple days. I asked anestheologist before surgery yesterday. Asked him about Versed, as well as anti-nausea/vomiting meds, not sure what he used (gave me scopolamine patch too). I forgot most everything yesterday, slept in the car and when I got home. So sorry to here about the job situation - I lost mine months ago, they gave me only 12 weeks recovery time; been out since Halloween. For me, the money wasn't great and the company was horrible (no one called to ask how I was doing - supervisors could see on the weekly schedules, except HR for payment of insurance). They didn't have the courtesy or humanity to find out. So I'm hoping this closed door opens a brand new one that's so much better. Have fun gardening if the weather allows.
About dinners: last night too out of it after surgery for anything to eat, woke at 2 am craving ritz crackers with cheddar cheese. Tonite, whatever my DH makes or pull leftover out. -
Beautiful picnic by the lake today for BF's family. Menu was simple...pulled pork with all the trimmings. Now relaxing and watching the sun set...awesome!
Lots of leftovers for the next several days...yea!
Glad the tragic situation in Boston got resolved..my heart goes out to the families of the victims. Sadly, people come here and then use our generosity to take advantage of all that we offer, and still hate us. He doesn't understand Americans? Well, I certainly don't understand him!

Thanks, Auntie Nance... Doing good today, anesthesia finally wearing off, glad I have pain meds. Still getting my appetite back, very thirsty all day. DD came home to check on me, do laundry, get a good homemade meal. DH made baked pork chops w/crushed graham cracker and ginger snap coating (one of my faves). With scalloped potatoes and salad. First meal of real good food! Daughter wants French toast for breakfast.

Wow. This thread does move *FAST*. "The B twins", 2nd, Minus, Linda, Debbie & Chuck and I know I'm forgetting someone. I'll put out my face so it can be slapeed with a piece of cooked spaghetti. :-)
I'm off to my mom's house to take care of stuff around her house and then bring her back over for a hopefully uneventful meal. She was 95 this past Friday, so I want to do something special for her.
She likes chicken. One of the recipes from the "old cookbook" of mom's/gram's/great-grandma's suggested a covered roasted pan, along with enough potato, onion, carrot, parsnip, and other spices to taste.
I guess I'll have to do some guessing for "enough" and "to taste".

Eric... My life right now is based upon my butt being in a recliner, resting, some tv and for "fun" it's BCO. You're leading an exciting life, you can catch up here anytime. Congrats to your mom - 95! That's amazing! She's lucky to have you help out, prepare scrumptious meals and enjoy your company. Dinner sounds like homemade goodness. Cake or cupcake to hold the birthday candle?

The chicken is in the oven. I put some fresh rosemary in with the chicken and vegetables and it's smelling GOOD!

Tonights dinner is a new chicken dish with pasta and a mushroom white wine sauce. The recipe called for cream of mushroom soup as well as fresh mushrooms, so I skipped the soup and made a bechamel instead. Some roasted snap peas on the side. -

Nance, I'm glad that you mentioned having snap peas, since I totally forgot that I have a bag of them in the refridge. I'll hunt them down tomorrow....
Our weekend was spent at four events related to DH's great niece's bat mitzvah. I have to say that I was so touched and impressed with how hard this little girl with Down Syndrome worked to learn to read and recite Hebrew for her religious service....not sure I could do that! She obviously had great religious tutors as well as many support specialists who her parents contract with. She is fortunate to have been born into a caring family with significant means, allowing them to provide her with every available resource to optimize her potential. She is also the most pleasant and engaging child, who independently circulated with all of the many, many guests. As her grand parents all say, she embodies "love"....and I would have to agree, adding "and innocence". At today's brunch she was one tired little gal (as we all were after dancing until midnight to a great band). DH and I also resorted to naps this afternoon.
No way I was going to leave the couch to do food shopping today, so I was very happy to have leftovers of kale/sausage soup with garden salad and a bit of Italian leftover take out. Might need to hit the store tomorrow.....;)
It will be nice to start a new week here in "the Bean".......tho concerned thoughts remain with all the families (here and in Texas) who are suffering loss of loved ones or homes, as well as the patients whose lives are forever altered by their injuries. p> -

Lacey... So wonderful to hear about your DH's great niece! Studying for bar/bat mitzvah is difficult enough for any child, with Down Syndrome, only more complicated. I admire parents who expect the best from children and provide the support they need. I think too many kids are babied and don't have an opportunity to try to live up to their potential. (I'm speaking from personal experience: my step-son was treated like he was royalty, nothing expected of him just because he was a "miracle baby" with minor learning disabilities. When DH and I married, I made sure he was prepared for life after living with us parents, he's doing fabulous on his own).
And as for dinner, I slept through most of today. DH made teriyaki chicken bowls, was just the perfect meal for me. -
Dh is cooking a beef stew for dinner tonight. He has been wanting beef stew so decided he'd better make it himself. I believe he's using a recipe from one of my America's Test Cooking cookbooks because I saw the book on the kitchen island. It's nice to be relieved of chef duty.

Disappointing news at my WW meeting. WW Corporate has decided to eliminate all Monday meetings since they generally are not well attended. The one I go to is very well attended with a great leader and some nice people. This puts a kink in my schedule since Mon. is my free day to attend an am meeting.

Carole, your DH sounds adventurous. Mine would have no clue where to begin. Gravy is a magical substance to him. He can't believe flour and fat and liquid could produce something so wonderful.
Tonights dinner is chicken empanadas, some jalapeno cornbread and leftover Spanish rice. Carb heavy, but it's one of those days. -
We arrived home from Georgia yesterday morning. It was an emotionally exhausting trip; compressing lots of family stuff into a very short time. Not used to eating out at Southern restaurants for every meal and all of us were getting some rumbling in our stomachs. Delicious BBQ, but how many meals in a row of BBQ can you eat? The services were beautiful as befitted this very religious woman.
Yesterday we went to Costco where I bought a HUGE spring mix box, 10lbs of carrots, tomatoes, and cucumbers. I wanted green things topped with the colors of the rainbow. We also picked up a pack of steaks. Mr. 02143 grilled one steak last night. I made a HUGE dinner plate-sized salad for each of us with all the veggies and some slightly pickled red onions and blue cheese. We each had about 1 oz of the meat. Ah..... lettuce that was actually green with a homemade vinaigrette was just the ticket. I had pulled out some of my Calabrian bread and made some bruschetta. The perfect meal for us last night.
Tonight will be a repeat with the remaining 2 oz of steak.

We went out of town for the weekend and stayed with friends. We had a great time and the kids plyed till they dropped! Witht he nice weather we are having we spent a few hours at the park this morning. SO nice to be back outside with the leaves trying to come out and spring spinging!
Tonight is roasted eggplant with Michelle's sauce. Yummmmmmm!

OK, bring on the leek recipes. Bought 3 bags of the frozen ones at Trader Joes. Managed to restrain myself with only graham crackers, their orange/carrot juice, and the fruit gummies plus the leeks. Probably the lowest bill I've had there. I couldn't find any cheese I wanted but found a lovely recipe today for mac and cheese with Manchego cheese and leeks. Manchego is not something we have in local grocery.
Special K - I love naughty recipes. We ate every bite of the meatloaf I made last week. I do have one of the double pans so at least the fat drains away. Tonight is chicken sausage, rotini, red peppers, broccoli in bit of Italian dressing. Off the chicken sausage package.
Went out with friends Saturday night for Mexican food to the infamous Joe T Garcias (known locally just at Joe T's). We had 28 people at 3 tables. Then over to one house for luscious coconut key lime cake. Their DD is a pastry student in the culinary school in Ft. Worth. Yum. Have been trying (LOL) to diet some, not drinking soda (or at least as much) and passing by DH's candy. I'm definitely a grazer.
Spring is here but cold front tomorrow and back in the 40s. DH planted my tomatoes/peppers. I may have to dig out tarp. Still have not put out my houseplants. Was 36 here Thursday night.

Keeping with Special's "naughty" theme, had BACON L, and T sandwiches on Trader's delish tuscan bread, squash soup with barley (love the crunch!), and naughty potato chips. Love to be naughty occasionally!

Lacey - I did notice they seemed to have more breads than a few weeks ago. DH is not much of a bread person. Eats UGG white bread sandwichs. Is the Tuscan bread a loaf bread? Bakery bread goes bad so fast in this house and at the price it is makes me feel terrible. He will eat Naan on occasion.

Speaking of very naughty, for dinner cheese, wasabi peas, ( almost the whole can) some almonds with sea salt and grapes. Some study once reported that if kids are left to their own choices, their over all diet will be balanced. I hope that goes for adults

Fast moving thread! Yikes!
We did naughty bacon on Sun for Dh birthday breakfast. I let him have his bacon every once in awhile.
Grass is growing, going to take the mower for spin today to get the high spots. Making some goulash, some italian bread and will have a picnic on the boat with some friends. Boat in water, but not set up with the carpets and tables, will be very basic, but just so glad to be on the water!

Ha,ha! Nope - don't eat it naked (nekked!), 'cuz really who wants to see that, lol! It just has a lot of unhealthy stuff in it, so it is a naughty indulgence. It is my DH's absolute favorite, so I do make it occasionally. DD is graduating from college in two weeks and we are having a big shindig - will be having lots of naughty food for that too!
