Momof2inME - to keep your head warm, check out http://www.slumbercap.com/ . I love these slumbercaps - for sleeping, under a bike helmet, under scarves and hats, plain, or decorated with twisty scarves from American Apparel.

My favorite head covering purchase was from www.hatswithhair.com. They have these cute baseball caps with bangs and a pony tail, and it comes down low beneath the pony to cover the back of your head. II've basically lived in that thing since chemo (I'm very glad I bought black - I'd hate to see if its dirty by now- LOL). I bought it in June, and I'm still wearing it - probably will until my bangs at least are long enough to need a trim. It's held up pretty well in all that time, too.
I didn't see anyone mention this place - I hope it was OK to do so..

I went to treatment yesterday and got so many compliments on tying a scarf around my head. Scarves are so in now anyway and come in such great colors and patterns. I feel better in my scarf than I do my wig. Doubt I will ever wear that wig again.
Take a scarf, needs to be about 72" long, cover the front of your head with the scarf and take the tails of the scarf behind your back, cross the ends and bring the tails back to the front of the scarf and cross then again, take the tails to the back and tie then once. You may have to retie to keep it as tight as you want it but most of my scarves have the tassels on the ends which make it cute.
Hope this helps someone. A lady today in treatment today was so interested in how I did it. God bless her, she was in Florida to escape the Ohio winter and found out her BC was back for the third time on the day she arrived here. Had the greatest attitude.
Today was my 7th out of 12 treatments for Abraxane and carboplatin. Finally on the downhill slide. -
i'd like to add this to the list! At night, I live in their flurry fleece sleep caps. They're the only sleep caps I found that don't hug the top of my head. The added bulk makes my whole head feel more balanced. (But now that the weather is nicer, I'm really like the feeling of my nearly bald head against the cool sheets.)
-
Thanks for putting this together. Today was my day to shave my head and I've purchased myself a few wraps to get used to things. So far I'm not feeling wearing a wig.

Etsy is also good. For example:

Lots of beaubeaus are marked down right now at www.4women.com. They are my favorites! Click the sale tab, and there are a bunch half price.

Easy T-shirt headwrap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNOY4cS_k7A
These work great and are free! I often used mine without the extra scarf and got many compliments on it and no one was the wiser...until I told them of course! LOL
-
Thank you bourscheid. I love this idea. If I can't find any of my old shirts (I think I just donated them all, what are the odds!) I will try my local good will store.

Thank you!! I think I will try it!!!
-
I love the t-shirts... they showed us how at my ACR visit to get a wig. I came home and cut up a shirt. Since I just clipped my hair down, they are great -- don't itch, don't feel like you're wearing anything. The only negative is that they are not great for sleeping!

What is everyone's "go to" head covering... something comfortable enough for everyday wear... something cool... goes with jeans or shorts, don't have to fiddle with it, etc.
-
Lynn, my go to in the warm weather (when I didn't decide to just go bald which I often did) was one of my Buffs. Very lightweight and versatile and they have so many different patterns available.

Wigs can come in any hair length possible. You can find them in super short, medium short, medium long and long. And not only can you find the length that you like you can also find a nice color. Some women will match the wig to their usually hair color, while others prefer to pick something different. Wigs can come in an all over color, a color with natural highlights or a color with more noticeable highlights.
Women's wig solutions are an online wig store that specializes in making wigs for women. They pride themselves on selling wigs that can be European human, remy human or synthetic. They have a collection called the Confidence reflection that sells a variety of wigs and styles. -
myskullcaps.com is now bandanaworld.com
I have now ordered from them 3 times. They are quick (I received my orders in 2 days...with standard shipping), I like their things, and their customer service goes above and beyond what I've seen anywhere. I was ordering flame skull caps for my coworkers who shaved with me, and they were out of the unlined ones...they contacted me, subsituted a more expensive item for it at no charge (lined skull caps vs plain ones) and threw in 20 free bandanas that matched! I was thrilled! I will probably wear them well after getting my hair back.

Well, I have quite a collection going from TLC. They are very reasonable in price. Just a little while ago I found a different site for silk scarves. It was expensive, but I bought one. I have a feeling, that one is going to be nice. I mean, if you have to go through this, you might as well enjoy accessorizing. Silly me.

When I was 'sans hair', I had 2 wigs (1 short and 1 long) but I had LOTS of scarfs. They are so easy to make and 'cheap'. I am always cold and live where winter can be brutal so I made some that were flannel, fleece or wool to try to stay somewhat warm. Hubby would often stop at fabric stores and bring home some material that he thought I'd like or 'looked like me'.
-
That's great Kicks.

I'm a newbie at all this, doing "research" for my upcoming hair loss. We haven't scheduled my actual date yet so all I know is that I'll start chemo in early June.
Anyway, I didn't see this mentioned anywhere so I wanted to add a product that I'll be using with whatever head coverings I go with. It's called Sun Guard laundry aid. You use it in your laundry and it adds UPF 30 to your garments which lasts up to 20 washes.
