Now I know why I want to go back to live in New Zealand - noticed Oz is not in the top 10 safe countries - too many bikie wars going on here at the moment.
All packed ready to go home - I'll miss the little fella.

Cheryl --- sure makes you wonder just how un-common their common sense might be, and frankly your reaction would keep me from going for it and laying it out for all to see. How stupid do you want to seem. Wow !!!!
It hasn't a chance, but gee, that too is enough reason not to put something like that out there.
Almost hot her today....we spent lots of time on the deck, but it's pouring rain now and no surprise there is small hail in it. I think it may rain for a few hours...maybe even overnight. Sigh !!!! Not how I hoped to start my Monday, but hey...it really isn't a big deal. I'll just have find some sunshine inside.

Yorkiemom, I'd say it's a porcupine. What else could it be? (There are different kinds of porcupines, maybe it's some exotic variation on a porcupine theme?)
Whatever it is, it's cute as the dickens!
Linda -
I'd guess hedgehog.
-
Hedgehog or porcupine were my guesses. And it is a total cutie!

ADORABLE German Shepherd - baby exchange!

Love the kitten. Love the cartoons.
thanks everyone for words of support. I was outside most of today, what wonderful personal therapy, except for the calls to and from California.
Athena, she is taking celexa (I think that's how it's spelled). She also has Xanax for when she gets so panicked and hysterical that she can't stop crying.
I don't think medication alone is enough. She has always had obsessive tendencies, but they helped her excel in school and with her writing. Now, the obsession itself is what's making things so terrible. She is so focused on the fact that her hearing is distorted that she can't think of anything else, and I believe, is making the problem worse - because the more she obsesses, the more everything sounds abnormal to her. She hasn't yet accepted that her mental state is the problem, not the hearing - or that, even if she's having a problem with her hearing, the depression, the hysteria, are the overriding concerns. I do believe that her job stress, the stress of losing a beloved grandmother, and then the hearing issue on top combined to send her into an emotional downturn. I'm hoping cognitive behavior therapy along with meds will help with both problems - but we'll see.
Anyway, going to go call and check on her.

Big hugs to you, Alexandria. Having had some issues with my daughter over the years, involving many of the things you are talking about, I have a pretty good idea what you are going through. It's not easy. I used to dread when the phone rang, but I also would dread when I hadn't heard from her for awhile.
Take care of yourself. When I was in the middle of it, I thought it would never get better, but after several years of proper medication(for my daughter and for me!) and therapy(again for both of us) I can honestly say things are a lot better. But when you're in the middle of it, it's pure hell.

Sandy, it sounds as though you are doing the right things. Celexa, in addition to easing depression, may also reduce anxiety and help a person feel more centered. Many drugs like it (SSRIs) are also prescribed for anxiety.
I would venture to say that the elephant in the room - the impending marriage - has to be playing the biggest role of all. Sometimes obsessive distractions are just that - distractions or psychosomatic referents to the real issue.
I would suggest not having a particular therapeutic approach in mind. The top docs always use a combination, as needed. In psychiatry sometimes you think you know what the problem is and just when you go about solving it, often that is when the real problem unmasks itself. It is like peeling back an onion and finding that different layers and colors are actually the governing parts of the whole.
Anyway, I am no doctor or therapist so I should shut it.
The NY/NJ area has some top places and people, luckily. Please keep us posted.

I'm home!!! - greeted by a huge pile of dirty men's clothes

It was hard saying goodbye to the baby. Hopefully things will improve. The SIL has accepted he can't come home as soon as they release him in about a week and is trying to organise to stay with an Aunt. DD has laid down some ground rules which he has to accept before she will let him home. One of those is to get counselling as a couple as well as his individual treatment.
I told him yesterday, that his family was worth fighting for and he had to get well. Trouble is, how would she ever know she was safe? He still hasn't acknowledged he hurt her, but he may never remember.
We'll be going down there in early May for the baby's 1st birthday, so we'll see how things are going then.

Susie-big hugs from me to you and your daughter as well.

Thanks girls - we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
How can one man wear 15 shirts in 8 days?????
Here's the little cutie - although I'm a bit cross, I caught his cold and I have to go back to work tomorrow. I think I'll make the effort and show up and can then go home sick - sounds like a plan.

-
Suzie - sending hugs and good thought for you and your DD. Sounds like she's a strong woman. Hoping that your SIL gets the appropriate help and that whatever happens with him, your DD and grandbaby are safe.
Athena, I agree that the impending marriage is also a big stressor. They've been together for almost 8 years but there is something about legalizing the relationship.
Will keep everyone posted.
