    I've had an increase in tinnitus over the last few years. I suspect it may be my Tamoxifen. Anyone else have experience with this?

    I did not have tinnitus with TAM but I have heard of others who do/did. I had transient hearing loss, though. I didn't realize it, except that people kept saying I had the TV on too loud. That was by far the least damaging effect of that drug on me.

    YramAl.... I just want to mention, I took Tamoxifen for 14 months, and had to quit, because I went deaf one morning.  Just woke up, and couldn't hear. 

    My PC just thought it was allergies.... So for a month we tried EVERYthing... but my hearing never came back.

    It's 100% "word recognition" deafness in my left ear, and only 60% loss in my right ear.   "Drugs" will cause permanent hearing loss... I did a lot of research on this...  Even sent some of my Tamoxifen to the Drug company.... AND the FDA...  Deafness is more prevalent in older women, like me.  But the inner ear is filled with little hair-like "nerves".... And they transmit sound waves to your brain. 

    And since Tamoxifen is like a chemo drug, it can be very hard on any type of hair follicles.  So the "nerves" can either be damaged, or in my case permanently quit working....  And yes, I have Tinnitus....  and I have to wear hearing-aids....

    Chevyboy-your story was in the back of my mind when I asked my question. I did remember reading your story before. My tinnitus doesn't seem to be getting any worse, but it's definitely there. It's hard to value the tradeoff-hearing or reduced risk of recurrence of cancer?

    I keep seeing these "ads" for cures for tinnitus on tv.   don't know if they work.  I have age related hearing loss, the high range - and I gotta say, OticonBTE ( behind the ear) hearing aids are fabulous - also mine are purple, so, even tho they can't be see, even when my hair is very short, which it usually is, I LOVE THEM!!!  The little receiver in the ear is so teeeny weeeeeny small, it doesn't block sound, just amplifies the sounds I can't hear well.  Programmed by a computer, so the analgy to eye glassees correcting vision is really perfect re: hearing aids.

    No problem with crowds, sounds, amazing progress made with heading aids in the past few years.  A friend who had tinnitus in one ear, now wears on to block that sound.  seems to work.

    I have tinnitus and will be getting hearing aids May 1st.  I got through all of my txs. fine and only noticed the fairly heavy noise level in my ears, ( my rt. once is worse ) only after I'd been taking Arimidex for awhile. 

    Turns out not only are both ears affected, but the rt. ear developed a hole which had never been there before.  I blamed it all on the Arimidex and interestingly the Ear Specialist I saw just shook his head yes when I said it. 

    I am fortunate that it is only partial loss in both ears and the hearing aids should do a great improvement.  It gets tiresome to always have noise in your head ( now some good Credence Clearwater or even some Zanfir would be nice ) and try to listen around it but that is what life has become and noises and all it is still pretty precious to me......so I'll just turn up the t.v. or the music and try not to let the accompaniment of my ears interfere.

    Mary, It's possible that your tinnitus could improve if you go off the Tamoxifen. Some SEs of TAM are permanent, others are not. I think that nefarious drug lowered my estrogen levels for life (and almost killed me).  Re: risk of recurrence versus Tam: I say: Please early death is better than death in life!! At least my family can give me a proper burial rather than watch me do myself in.  But YMMV ("Your Mind May Vary") Also, Tamoxifen doesn't work for everyone - far from it.

    This looks much like my cousin's dog.  A Sharpei which she named Miss Piggy.  Every one loved that dog.

    Yram, I know..... I could never tell if the Tamoxifen was "working".... I don't know how they could tell...  I'm 3 years out now, so pretty happy with that.  I WANTED to take the Tamoxifen.... I even asked for that one.... because my friend took it for the 5 years....  But I've had my hearing aids now for over 2 years...

    I see those ads also, but honestly I'm afraid to try anything else. 

    Sunflowers, mine are the Bernafon BTE also.... And yes, they amplify EVERYthing...  Our hearing is alright with hearing aids, just not the same...  Yes, they can adjust with a computer, when your hearing gets worse even.... or rarely, better!    But loud sounds, or like being in a casino, or loud restaurants drive me nuts....  It's just easier to take them out.  I can "switch" to block out sounds in back of me....  I have them set for 2 different "programs".....

    But I guess I am pretty lucky, to not have anything else wrong with me.... I can really sleep well, Ha!  No sound at all.... I can't even hear our alarm clock...

    I have ended up with pulsatile tinnitus but it only affects me lying in bed thank goodness. I did fly with fluid behind my eardrum or it could be from the chemo.

    Last day with my precious grandbaby. I'm looking forward to going back to work to rest :) The good news is that her neighbours (a lovely greek couple who also have a grandson called Nick) have offered to help in anyway. She only told them what happened yesterday. It makes me feel a lot better about going home tomorrow. I think the baby has given me his cold - we'll see.

    Going to visit his father today - wish us luck.

    my Oticon ONLY amplify the sounds I have trouble hearing - the higher pitched sounds - nothing else is amplified -

    I'm not often in large crowds, but the few times I am , I don't notice any problems - unless someone SHOUTS in my ears ;)

    Of course I could read that Blue....I'm only slightly dain bramaged. I was also shaking my head yes about the Jesus and the money changers as well.  Very good point.
