Hi All,
Music and lyrics have been a constant companion through the course of my life. It has helped me put a face on my emotions, happy times as well as sad and all points in between.
If you care to, please post some of your favorites.
My latest is on Rob Thomas's "Something To Be".

"Now Comes The Night"
Rob Thomas
When the hour is upon us
And our beauty surely gone
No you will not be forgotten
No you will not be alone

And when the day has all but ended
And our echo starts to fade
No you will not be alone then
And you will not be afraid
No you will not be afraid

When the fog has finally lifted
From my cold and tired brow
No I will not leave you crying
And I will not let you down
No I will not let you down
I will not let you down

Now comes the night
Feel it fading away
And the soul underneath
Is it all that remains
So just slide over here
Leave your fear in the fray
Let us hold to each other
Till the end of our days

One of my favorites of long ago, Sound of Silence by P. Simon 1964

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
    Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
    Still remains
    Within the sound of silence

In restless dreams I walked alone
    Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turn my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
    That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

And in the naked light I saw
    Ten thousand people maybe more
    People talking without speaking
    People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never shared
    No one dared
    Disturb the sound of silence

"Fools," said I, "you do not know
    Silence like a CANCER grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said "The words of the prophets are written on the subway
    walls
    And tenement halls
And whispered in the sound of silence

I happened to put some old John Denver on my Ipod and this song came on the other day. A long ago time JD Greatest Hits was my favorite and this song has more meaning now.

Poems, Prayers and Promises- John Denver

    I've been lately thinking

    about my lifetime

    All the things I've done

    And how it's been

    And I can't help believing

    In my own mind

I know I'm gonna hate to see it end

    I've seen alot of sunshine

    Slept out in the rain

Spent a night or two all on my own

    I've known my lady's pleasures

    Had myself some friends

And spent a night or two in my own home

I have to say it now

It's been a good life all in all

    It's really fine

To have a chance to hang around

And lie there by the fire

    And watch the evening tire

While all my friends and my old lady

Sit and pass the pipe around

And talk of poems, prayers and promises

And things that we believe in

How sweet it is to love someone

How right it is to care

How long it's been since yesterday

    And what about tomorrow

    What about our dreams

And all the memories we share

The days they pass so quicky now

    Night are seldom long

Time around me whispers when it's cold

    The changes somehow frighten me

    Still I have to smile

It turns me on to think of growing old

For though my life's been good to me

There's still so much to do

So many things my mind has never known

I'd like to raise a family

    I'd like to sail away

And dance across the mountains on the moon

I have to say it now

it's been a good life all in all....

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way,
you always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strength.
A beautiful face without a name -- for so long,
a beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
I would be nothing with out you.

    (CHORUS)

    Fly, fly, fly away,
you let me fly so high.
    Oh, fly, fly,
so high against the sky, so high I almost touch the sky.
Thank you, thank you, thank God for you,
    the wind beneath my wings.

For all the beautiful women fighting this horrible disease and for my mom, my hero my best friend I miss you.

Old man Wrigley lived in that white house
Down the street where i grew up
Momma used to send me over with things
    We struck a freindship up
I spent a few long summers out on his old porch swing

Says he was in the war when in the navy
Lost his wife, lost his baby
Broke down and asked him one time
How ya keep from going crazy
He said I'll see my wife and son in just a little while
I asked him what he meant
He looked at me and smiled, said

    (Chorus)
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
    Oh i believe

Few years later i was off at college
Talkin' to mom on the phone one night
Getting all caught up on the gossip
The ins and outs of the small town life
She said oh by the way son, old man Wrigley's died.

Later on that night, i laid there thinkin' back
Thought 'bout a couple long-lost summers
I didn't know whether to cry or laugh
If there was ever anybody desevred a ticket to the other side
It'd be that sweet old man who looked me in the eye, said

    (Chorus)
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see

    I can't quote the book
    The chapter or the verse
You can't tell me it all ends
In a slow ride in a hearse
You know I'm more and more convinced
    The longer that i live
    Yeah, this can't be
    No, this can't be
No, this can't be all there is

    (Chorus)
When I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
    I believe
    Oh, I
    I believe
    I believe
    I believe
    I believe
    I believe

Some say love it is a river
    that drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love it is a hunger
    an endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
    and you it's only seed

It's the heart afraid of breaking
    that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking
    that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
    who cannot seem to give
and the soul afraid of dying
    that never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
    Just remember in the winter
    far beneath the bitter snows
    lies the seed
    that with the sun's love
    in the spring
    becomes the rose

    There's a lady who's sure
    All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
and she's buying a stairway to heaven

There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings
In a tree by the brook
    There's a songbird who sings
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven

    Ooh, it makes me wonder

    There's a feeling I get
When I look to the west
And my spirit is crying for leaving
In my thoughts I have seen
Rings of smoke through the trees
And the voices of those who stand looking

    Ooh, it makes me wonder
Ooh, it really makes me wonder, ahhhh

    And it's whispered that soon
If we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason
And a new day will dawn
    For those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter, ohh

    Ooh, it makes me wonder

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow
    Don't be alarmed now
It's just a spring clean for the May-Queen
Yes, there are two paths you can go by
    But in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on

    Ahh, it makes me wonder

Your head is humming and it won't go
    In case you don't know
The piper's calling you to join him
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow
    And did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How ev'rything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all, yeah
To be a rock and not to roll

And she's buying a stairway to heaven

I've Got Friends That Do - Tim McGraw

    This is for the nobody
The one in the crowd who's got a
    Lost look on his face
This is for the down trodden
The one that the worlds forgotten
    Waitin' on a better day
Well I'm in no position to judge him
Heaven knows they're just like me
    And I'm not alone
    And knowing what it's like
To wonder where you're going in this crazy life
And I'm not alone, knowing how it feels
To pray to God and sometimes wonder if he's real
'Cause I got friends that do
Yeah I got friends that do

This is for the lost junkie
Who spends all his hard earned money on something that he hates
And this is for the found guilty
Who ain't getting out until he pays his debt to the state
I'm in no position to judge him
Heaven knows it could have been me
And I may not know what it's like
To loose your job 'cause a habit's got you gripped too tight
And I may not know how it feels
To lay your head down on a prison bed in a world of steel
But I got friends that do
Yeah, I got friends that do

    This is for yours truly
Just a little verse to remind me
We've all got somewhere to turn
And I may not know what its like
To send my only son to save the world and watch him die
And I may not know how it feels
To hang there on the cross to prove that love is real
But I got friends that do
Yeah I got friends that do
Yeah I got friends that do
We know we all got friends that do

If you saw the season finale of Medium, this was the song that played throughout. I fell in love with it. It was just released, Dixie Chicks, Lullaby

    "Lullaby"

They didn't have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

I slip in bed when you're asleep
To hold you close and feel your breath on me
Tomorrow there'll be so much to do
So tonight I'll drift in a dream with you

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

As you wander through this troubled world
In search of all things beautiful
You can close your eyes when you're miles away
And hear my voice like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

Oh well, my bro just told me that they (Dixie Chicks were commie president haters) I had no idea and I love this song. They're entitled to their opinions.

"Reach Out And Touch Somebody's Hand"

    (As recorded by Diana Ross)
    NICHOLAS ASHFORD
    VALERIE SIMPSON

Reach out and touch somebody's hand
Make this a better place if you can
Reach out and touch somebody's hand
Make this world a better place if you can (just try)

Take a little time out of your busy day
To give encouragement to someone who's lost the way (just try)
Or would I be talking to a stone if I asked you to
Share a problem that's not your own
We can change things if you start giving, why don't you
    (Chorus)

If you see an old friend on the street and he's down
Remember his shoes could fit your feet (just try)
Try a little kindness and you'll see
It's something that comes very naturally
We can change things if we start giving, why don't you

Reach out and touch somebody's hand
Reach out and touch somebody's hand
Make this world a better place if you can.

    Annies Song

    You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
    Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert
    Like a sleepy blue ocean
    You fill up my senses
    Come fill me again
    Come let me love you
Let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter
Let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you
Let me always be with you
    Come let me love you
    Come love me again
Let me give my life to you
    Come let me love you
    Come love me again
    You fill up my senses
Like a night in the forest
    Like the mountains in springtime
Like a walk in the rain
Like a storm in the desert

    DEMONS AND WIZARDS

    Through the strength
of the Power that bore me,
    .......I arose
    in my Dungeon of Darkness
    ...reaching out toward the Light
    ......from my center of reason,
    pulling away
    from my depth of despair,
    ...hoping to discover
    ...a door still left open,
    wanting to find just one clue;

    But no one would speak
    as I entered each room
    along the dimlit corridors
    ...of my life!

    They just shocked me
    ......by pointing me back
    .........in the direction I'd come...
    where the Demons
    were as star-painted dancers,
    .....and the Wizards
    .....would just sit and think;
hiding their evil in shadows of doubt,
    their fears behind tyranny shields.

Within the spectrum my eyes see
    I'm rapidly approaching desperation
    with but a narrow aperture
    .....of crystal light
still visible from my one-man crevice
where I'm engaged in fierce battle
    ............against
all those twilight Demons and Wizards
so obsessed with wreaking hollow vengeance
    ...from their opaque towers!

    Alone -- I stand.
Forever fighting ... trying to escape
    their Fantasy Moats,
    their myriad of domination
    ...and oppression
before they can raise the drawbridge
    ...of my castle
    ......this fast-falling night
    and keep me locked inside
    transparent walls again...

    Away from wisdom,
    ..........truth,
    ......and from reaching my potential--
    --------------MY REASON FOR BEING!

    ...from my book, 'WHISPERS'

I just read about Lu and this came on the radio - I love this song.

Life Ain't Always Beautiful - Gary Allen

    Life ain't always beautiful
    Sometimes it's just plain hard
Life can knock you down, it can break your heart

    Life ain't always beautiful
You think you're on your way
And it's just a dead end road at the end of the day

But the struggle makes you stronger
And the changes make you wise
And happiness has it's own way of takin' it sweet time

    [chorus]
    No,life aint always beautiful
    Tears will fall sometimes
    Life aint always beautiful
    But it's a beautiful ride

    Life aint always beautiful
Some days I miss your smile
I get tired of walkin' all these lonely miles

And I wish for just one minute
I could see your pretty face
Guess I can dream, but life dont work that way

But the struggles makes me stronger
And the changes make me wise
And happiness has it's own way of takin' its sweet time

    No, life aint always beautiful
But I know I'll be fine
    Hey, life aint always beautiful
    But its a beautiful ride
    What a beautiful ride

    Morning Has Broken
    As sung by Cat Stevens
    lyrics by Eleanor Farjeon

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day

    Hugs,
    Carrie

    *sigh* I LOVE Cat Stevens...

Here's a new one I love the lyrics of...

    Unwritten (by Natasha Bedingfield)

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
    Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
    Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
    The rest is still unwritten

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
    Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
    Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
    The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
    Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
    Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
    Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
    The rest is still unwritten

My son just played that for me Peggy -- it's nice. This Celine Dion is one I like and when it comes on the radio first thing in the morning I feel my day is going to start well.

    In Some Small Way
Written by R. Page, D. Tyson

    There's a tree standing there
    In such an ordinary way
    But as I look around
    Everything keeps changing.

There's a leaf on that tree
And it floats into a stream
Like everything it gets carried away
    To the sea

And if we give a little of our love away
Maybe meet in the middle every night and day
If we could hear just a whisper of what the heart
    needs to say
It could sure make a difference in some small
    In some small way

In the heart lies the key
    That unlocks your destiny
    Look within and we'll find
    Everything we're longing for

And if we give a little of our love away
Maybe meet in the middle every night everyday
If we could hear just a whisper of what the heart
    needs to say
It could sure make a difference in some small
    In some small way

Oh may you cherish each moment you live
And know all the love that you give will go on
    and on and on

There's a sky vast and blue
And it lies deep inside of you
Breathe it in, let it out
    Breathe it in again

And if we give a little of our love away
Maybe meet in the middle every night everyday
If we could hear just a whisper of what the heart
    is trying to say
It could sure make a difference in some small
    In some small way.

Heard this today for the first time - this is the chorus by Diamond Rio:

God only cries for the living
'Cause it's the living that are left to carry on
An' all the angels up in Heaven
They're not grieving because they're gone
There's a smile on their faces
'Cause they're in a better place than, mmm, baby, than, oh
God only cries for the living
'Cause it's the living that are so far from home.

    Quote:

If you saw the season finale of Medium, this was the song that played throughout. I fell in love with it. It was just released, Dixie Chicks, Lullaby

    "Lullaby"

They didn't have you where I come from
Never knew the best was yet to come
Life began when I saw your face
And I hear your laugh like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

I slip in bed when you're asleep
To hold you close and feel your breath on me
Tomorrow there'll be so much to do
So tonight I'll drift in a dream with you

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

As you wander through this troubled world
In search of all things beautiful
You can close your eyes when you're miles away
And hear my voice like a serenade

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

How long do you want to be loved
Is forever enough, is forever enough
How long do you want to be loved
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up
    Is forever enough
Cause I'm never, never giving you up

Oh well, my bro just told me that they (Dixie Chicks were commie president haters) I had no idea and I love this song. They're entitled to their opinions.

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you Christine!!!!!
I have been trying to find this out since the show, it really moved me. Now I know where to find it, YEAH!!

    I Believe - Diamon Rio

Every now and then soft as breath upon my skin
I feel you come back again
And it's like you haven't been gone a moment from my side
Like the tears were never cried
Like the hands of time are holding you and me
And with all my heart I'm sure we're closer than we ever were
I don't have to hear or see, I've got all the proof I need
There are more than angels watching over me
    I believe, I believe

    Chorus
That when you die your life goes on
It doesn't end here when you're gone
Every soul is filled with light
It never ends and if I'm right
Our love can even reach across eternity
    I believe, I believe

Forever, you're a part of me
Forever, in the heart of me
And I'll hold you even longer if I can
The people who don't see the most
Say that I believe in ghosts
And if that makes me crazy, then I am
    'Cause I believe

There are more than angels watching over me
    I believe, I believe

I heard this song on the radio some time back when going to Duke for a treatment. I love, love, love this. I didn't recognize the voice and had to look it up on the net. It's song by Andy Griggs. First of all, here's what he had to say:

Losing someone changes your life in many, many ways. I know. Usually when there’s a song about death, I think it’s morbid and sad. I fell in love with “If Heaven” because it gives you hope and faith. It’s looking back; it’s remembering. Not only is it talking about the future of Heaven, but it also expresses love and remembrance of what you cherish. How many times have you wanted to go back to someone you lost and tell them, “You gave me this – it’s part of me because of you.” This song is about that. When I first heard it, I cried and thought, “I’ve got to record that song.” I think it’s the jewel of the album.

TURN YOUR SPEAKERS UP AND CLICK HERE AND LISTEN TO THE SONG.

This is a music video. There is a commercial before he sings. The song is much prettier when listening. And this Andy fella is good looking too. He's a little young for me.
    Shirley

    IF HEAVEN

If heaven was an hour, it'd be twilight
When the fireflies start dancin on the lawn
And supper's on the stove and Mamma's laughin'
And everybody's workin' day is done

If heaven was a town, it'd be my town
On a summer day in 1985
And everything I wanted was out there waiting
And everyone I loved was still alive

Don't cry a tear for me now baby
There comes a time we must all say goodbye
And if that's what heavens made of
You know I aint afraid to die

If heaven was a pie, it'd be cherry
Cool and sweet and heavy on the tongue
And just one bite would satisfy your hunger
And there'd always be enough for everyone

If heaven was a train, it'd be a fast one
To take this weary traveler 'round the bend
And if heaven was a tear, it'd be my last one
And you'd be in my arms again

    (Repeat Chorus)
