Old man Wrigley lived in that white house
Down the street where i grew up
Momma used to send me over with things
We struck a freindship up
I spent a few long summers out on his old porch swing

Carrie, hope you don't mind, but I thought I'd post the video of this song. It's great. I bought this album just for that song.
HERE'S THE LINK TO THE VIDEO. -
Thanks for both of those links. Although I have a strong faith, music has always been a kind of religion to me. It's the lyrics that make some songs so special.

Carrie -
When you're weary, feeling small,
When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all;
I'm on your side. When times get rough
And friends just can't be found,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
When you're down and out,
When you're on the street,
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you.
I'll take your part.
When darkness comes
And pain is all around,
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down.
Sail on silvergirl,
Sail on by.
Your time has come to shine.
All your dreams are on their way.
See how they shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind.
Bridge over troubled waters
Simon and Garfunkel -
You're welcome, Carrie. Songs really cheer me up, or sometimes make me sad. But his song truely made me feel up. Also, I loved the one, "If Heaven."
I was watching Oprah one day and Faith Hill was on. She sang "I Surrender All" in a way I have NEVER heard it sung. It was so peaceful and relaxing and she put sooo much meaning into that song. I wished she'd put that in one of her CDs.
Shirley -
One of my favorites by Vince Gill. We played this at my dad's funeral. Truely not a traditional song for a funeral.

GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN
I know your life on earth was troubled
and only you could know the pain.
You weren't afraid to face the devil,
you were no stranger to the rain.
(CHORUS)
Go rest high on that mountain
son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
love for the Father and the Son.
Oh, how we cried the day you left us
we gathered round your grave to grieve.
I wish I could see the angels faces
when they hear your sweet voice sing.
REPEAT CHORUS -
When I was in H.S. the Viet Nam war was raging. We started each day singing this song for the brave who gave up their lives for us, and also, if we all lived by these words, another war would never happen.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
(Louis Armstrong)
WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD
I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"
I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Oh yeah

Blowin' in the Wind (Words and Music by Bob Dylan)
How many roads must a man walk down
Before they call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
How many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many years must a mountain exist
Before it is washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
Hugs,
Carrie -
I don't get much opportunity as of late to get online. I was delighted to see so many lyrics and links here. I have had a very enjoyable morning...Thanks everyone!
I posted this one a long time ago, it's still one of my favorites.
James Taylor "Hourglass"
Up from Your Life
So much for your moment of prayer, God's not at home there is no there, there.
Lost in the stars, that's what you are, left here on your own.
You can only hope to live on this earth, this here is it, for all it's worth.
Nothing else awaits you, no second birth, no starry crown.
For an unbeliever like you, there's not much they can do that would turn you away.
Though I hate to see you surrender, you need to surrender, we must find you a way to
Look up from your life, up from your life, look on up from your life, look up from your life.
There's a river running under your feet, under this house, under this street.
Straight from the heart, ancient and sweet, on its way back home.
Even in the middle of your sadness, the everyday madness, the ongoing game.
Even when you can't find a reason, still there is a reason, you don't need to name it.
Look on up, look up from your life, look on up from your life, look up from your life.
Oh, even for a minute to find yourself in it,
to wait by the stream to drop out of your dream,
Look on up, look up from your life, look on up from your life, look up from your life.
Look up from your life, up from your life, look on up from your life,
look up from your life. -
It must have been cold there in my shadow
To never have sunlight on your face
You were content to let me shine, that's your way
You always walked a step behind.
So I was the one with all the glory
While you were the one with all the strain
A beautiful face without a name for so long
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
And everything I would like to be
I can fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed
But I've got it all here in my heart
I want you to know I know the truth,
Of course I know it
I would be nothing without you.
Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be
I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings.
Did I ever tell you you're my hero?
You're everything, everything I wish I could be
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle
For you are the wind beneath my wings
Cause you are the wind beneath my wings.
Oh, the wind beneath my wings.
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away, you let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings.
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings.

HERO by Mariah Carey
There's a hero
If you look inside your heart
You don't have to be afraid
Of what you are
There's an answer
If you reach into your soul
And the sorrow that you know
Will melt away
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
It's a long road
When you face the world alone
No one reaches out a hand
For you to hold
You can find love
If you search within yourself
And the emptiness you felt
Will disappear
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you
Lord knows
Dreams are hard to follow
But don't let anyone
Tear them away
Hold on
There will be tomorrow
In time
You'll find the way
And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you'll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in You
Hugs,

Thanks Carrie. So fitting for this board, I hope everyone reads these lyrics. (bump)

Because of the kind of day it's been for so many of us, this song just keeps rolling around in my head. One of James Taylor's best...
You've Got a Friend
When you're down and troubled
And you need a helping hand
And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights.
You just call out my name,
And you know whereever I am
Ill come running, oh yeah baby
To see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And Ill be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Youve got a friend.
If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
Ill come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you got to do is call
And Ill be there, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Hey, aint it good to know that youve got a friend?
People can be so cold.
Theyll hurt you and desert you.
Well theyll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but dont you let them.
You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
Ill come running to see you again.
Oh babe, dont you know that,
Winter spring summer or fall,
Hey now, all youve got to do is call.
Lord, Ill be there, yes I will.
Youve got a friend.
Youve got a friend.
Aint it good to know youve got a friend.
Aint it good to know youve got a friend.
Youve got a friend. -

By your side~~Sade
You think I'd leave your side baby
You know me better than that
You think I'd leave down
when your down on your knees
I wouldn't do that
I'll do you right when your wrong
I- - - - ohhh, ohhh
If only you could see into me
Oh, when your cold
I'll be there to hold you tight to me
When your on the outside baby and you can't get in
I will show you,
your so much better than you know
When your lost,
when your alone and you can't get back again
I will find you darling
I'll bring you home
If you want to cry
I am here to dry your eyes
and in no time you'll be fine
You think I'd leave your side baby
You know me better than that
You think I'd leave you down when your down on your kness
I wouldn't do that
I'll do you right when your wrong
I- - - I, ohhhh, ohhhh
If only you could see into me
Oh when your cold
I'll be there
To hold you tight to me
Oh when your alone
I'll be there by your side baby

Barbra Streisand- Everything
I want to learn what life is for
I don't want much, I just want more
Ask what I want and I will sing
I want everything (everything)
I'd cure the cold and the traffic jam
If there were floods, I'd give a dam
I'd never sleep, I'd only sing
Let me do everything (everything)
I'd like to plan a city, play the cello
Play at Monte Carlo, play othello
Move into the White House, paint it yellow
Speak Portuguese and Dutch
And if it's not too much
I'd like to have the perfect twin
One who'd go out as I came in
I've got to grab the big brass ring
So I'll have everything (everything)
I'm like a child who's set free
At the fun fair
Every ride invites me
And it's unfair
Saying that I only
Get my one share
Doesn't seem just
I could live as I must
If they'd
Give me the time to turn the tide
Give me the truth if once I lied
Give me the man who's gonna bring
More of everything
Then I'll have everything
Everything -
Here's one from the Wizard of Oz:
You're out of the woods
You're out of the dark
You're out of the night
Step into the sun, step into the light
Keep straight ahead
For the most glorious place
On the Face of the Earth
Or the sky
Hold onto your breath
Hold onto your heart
Hold onto your hope
March up to the gate
And bid it open -
love this song
thank you Christine

The Music of the Night
PHANTOM
Night-time sharpens, heightens each sentation...
Darkness stirs and wakes imagination...
Silently the senses abandom their defences...
Slowly,gently night unfurls its splendour...
Grasp it, sense it -- tremulous and tender...
turn your face away from the garish light of day,
turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling lignt --
and listen to the music of the night...
Close your eyes and surrender to your darkest dreams!
Purge your thoughts of the life you knew before
Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar!
And you'll live as you've never lived before...
Softly, deftly, music shall caress you...
Hear it, feel it, secretly possess you.
Open up your mind, let your fantasies unwind,
in this darkenss which you know you connot fight --
the darkness of the music of the night...
Let your mind start a journey to a strange new world!
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before!
Let your soul take you where you long to be!
Only the can you belong to me...
Floating, falling, sweet intoxication!
Touch me, trust me, savour each sensation!
Let your dream begin, let your darker side give in
to the power of the music that I write --
the poser of the music of the night...
Tou alone can make my song take flight --
help me make the music of the nignt...
sweet dreams
to all

Just the chorus - Mountains by Lonestar
There are times in life when you gotta crawl
Lose your grip trip an' fall
When you can't lean on no one else
That's when you find yourself
I've been around and I've noticed that
Walkin's easy when the road is flat
Them danged ol' hills'll get you every time
Yeah the good Lord gave us mountains
So we could learn how to climb
This world ain't fair
It can knock you on your butt
You can just lie there
Or you can get back up
You gotta get back up
There are times in life when you gotta crawl
Lose your grip, trip an' fall
When you can't lean on no one else
That's when you find yourself
I've been around and I've noticed that
Walkin's easy when the road is flat
Them danged ol' hills'll get you every time
Yeah, the good Lord gave us mountains
The good Lord gave us mountain
So we could learn how to climb
Yeah, oh -
