I am trying to wind down. Tomorrow is going to be a wild day. Cooking all day. Sunday we will come home and I am going with FDIL and her sisters to look at wedding gowns. And of course I will be cooking Corned beef and cabbage on Sunday as well.
Hope you get some good rest, SAndy.
-
It's c-o-l-d here...just feels that way...
-
Enjoy your day(s) Meece!
COld here too. What happened to spring?
Good Morning all!
-
It headed West!
We got to 80° yesterday. It is supposed to be close to that today. Where we are heading for the dinner is supposed to be even warmer.
Spring arrives on Wednesday and we are supposed to get some rain!
-
I'm freezing...I don't usually warm up until summer gets here in June. Brrrrr.
Hope you have a nice time looking at dresses! I hope they are all agreeable and like the same things.
Boys are camping today - I don't envy them.
Sorry for the rant ladies...
-
What a dilemma, Chris! So very sorry. You are in such a tough spot! If you stop bugging her she may never pass, and never go anywhere in life. In that case you could be stuck with her under your roof indefinitely. Let's just hope you get her set on her way without too much damage to your mental health!
-
I am wary about helping out with this wedding as I got taken for such a ride with the last one. I am once burned, twice shy. I was thrilled that her sisters have already said they will put on the shower. It's actually weird to have anyone else seem the least bit concerned about helping out with this.
-
good luck Meece, I am sure you are shy, but you know you will do it because that is who you are....
Chris rant away, it is a tough time with kids, but I am different I stopped pushing cause I figured the knew what they had to do and if they didn't feel it was important enough, and I wasn't going to be around for the rest of their life that they needed to figure it out....that sounds harsh, but, they need to take responsibility sometime for their choices....
-
Chris - you are reminding me of one of the few reasons it is good to be older
Kids and homework are gone. The teaching of daily life is over.
Sandy - did you sleep? How do you feel?
-
Good morning...am trying to unscramble my brain today. Slept late - that's the patter lately...work long days during the week, get little sleep, recover on week end. I'm too old for this. I like to see the sun rise at a time when I'm not just driving to work.
Yesterday's trip to CT to grandson's classroom got canceled because he had fever and stomach thing. I am soooo glad...after babysitting in NJ Thursday night, I was so tired I don't think I could have been ready on time to drive to his school...I had 100 rocks in the back seat not organized...wanted to give a goody bag to each kid. Rescheduling so now I have lots of time to do it. Whew!
Impulsively stopped at a car dealer on the way home and got tangled with a dear man who is the salesman...he was slow and kept me there for hours...I found 2 cars i loved and DH now says no - now I feel stupidly guilty for stopping there. DUH no room in my brain for this stuff. My car has 221,000 miles now.
Going for a walk soon....even tho it's cold -
Glad you'll have time to do it the way you want to Joan - sorry the little one was sick, though. And sorry about the car...is he saying no to the cars you liked or a car at all - with that many miles - you need to know what car you want to replace it with if it konks out on you.
Meece - I'm glad the sisters are going to take care of the shower. I don't blame you for being twice shy - but she is a different person - hopefully a more appreciative one. Sounds like she is. I won't be a good source of advice for my kids - everything in life has been such a pain in the ass, nothing is worth the effort to me anymore, so I would be tempted to say don't bother about a lot of things...
I don't have the energy to push them much anymore - the instances of my pushing are getting farther and farther apart. It probably has been a waste of effort - they haven't listened. I keep telling them they are going to end up learning the hard way. And if they aren't doing what I tell them out of spite - they are the ones who will suffer the consequences, not me. I'm suffering my own consequences - I just hoped they could have learned from my mistakes instead of making worse ones of their own.
Weather sounds so nice there, Meece - I think we need the plane to pick us all up and bring us to your place. 80's...mmmm....warm.... I need to go get under my blanket to get warm now...
-
Every day I look up to the sky and say Lord be honest with me.......is there really a Brady Bunch somewhere in this land...........Please take me back to when all they bitched about was who was getting their bath first.......won't get into it, but I'm so tired of it all........does the bullshit ever end.......
Oh that is what the good Lord meant when he answered back "in time dear one, in time.......lol............. -
Chris.....What ducky said in time......unfortunately the time will be when they move out or to get married
Believe me I feel your frustration......walking was a hazard...i never knew in the dark what i was gonna step on.......No IT IS NOT FUNNY.....I felt the same way for years and I say to people who thing parents should be a good example......You know what I will tell them STFU......
i'm worried about you.....
Most of us understand what you're going through if anyone had it differently now it's time to speak........
-------------
Joan...He should make his mind about the car....I hope you're resting......GCS is getting closer
-------------
Sandy.....Thinking of you always.....hoping today is a better day for you
------------
Meece...You're getting busy again and if you feel you're not appreciated (I HOPE NOT) just stay on the back burner......You are very talented...........
---------------
Diane...Are you still using the microwave?
---
Linda...It's snowing here but not cold
-
OK my day went like this...
Our local CVS had a free glucose and cholesterol health day and i was little worried about my sugar levels.....because amount of weight gain and my feet was tingling........
So I had it checked it's normal.....And if you spoke to the nurse they were giving $5 coupons on everything in the store so i'm a very wealthy woman now
lalalalalalalalalalalalalalalaa
I went couple of stores got my happy leafy vegetables and everything else
Got a chicken......Will make soup...I even got big bunch of escarole
And it doesn't really mean much but lost about 2.5 pounds....now the scale starts with 179.2
That was my exciting day...but I like coming home and find the house exactly the same way I left...That is priceless
OOOPS..Sorry mothers with young children...this will happen to you too one day
Deep Breaths
(((TOL)))
-
Keep the snow Sheila!
I hear ya' Chris, I am dealing with similiar situations here.
-
Sheila - the microwave? You know I have a memory for about 30 minutes
Chris - being older and in a different phase of life, I just hope you don't feel like you are the only one. Living where I live instead of where I'm from, nobody in the PNW ever said their kids were a pain in the axx, or that their husbands were imperfect or that we as wives and mothers have constant doubts. My DH used to ask why my phone calls were so long and expensive - it was because I felt like I was the only one and had to talk to someone real!!!.
Today DH and I had a barkathon - it reminded me of years past. I realize that the reason the barkathons had diminished was that I had given up on asking him to do too much around the house (he's tired, he works, etc.) and I took it all on myself or I hired someone to get the freaking job done. I had been asking him to change a faucet handle in my daughter's bath for 3 weeks and a light bulb above the kitchen eating area and he wanted "props" because he changed my daughter's faucet handle. I showed him that he had put the wrong handle back on because I had the contractor change to the right handle yesterday and it cost us $60. Perhaps I am impatient and unreasonable, probably. I was behaving and reacting and feeling as I did 20 years ago and it made me think of you and how frustrated you must feel sometimes. I hope I'm not out of line but when you have kids and parents to manage along with a husband, life is really intense.
-
Diane....Hot Towels for your condition....hahahahahahahaaaaaaaaa
-
I've kind of stopped the barkathons - I've given up. I try really hard to avoid him - for some reason I feel compelled to talk to him - him being my husband and all - and talking gets me nowhere except wanting to drink myself into a stupor (which just makes me get hungover, susceptible to a migraine and then a follow-up with a sinus infection (that was last weekend-only I hadn't even talked to him-just the thought of it made me get out the rum)). I don't drink often - it makes me feel like crap - so no worries about me becoming an alcoholic.
lol - he wanted props after doing it wrong - I don't know why I think that's so funny - good for you hiring someone to do it right. I'd hire someone to do all the stuff that needs to be done around this house - but I have to wait for my kids to flunk out of college first before I can use the money on the house - lol. Nah- I'm just kidding. this house is so far gone, I don't want to waste money fixing it. I want to move out into my own one-room apartment. But I have to start work first...Monday. I'm so scared. My brain is broken - I'm afraid I won't be able to absorb anything they say. I was looking through the paperwork - there's going to be a scavenger hunt in the store. Oh, goody. And there will be problem solving scenarios - I have no sense - I won't know what to do... I'm going to flunk training.
And I have people wanting to plan vacations- my friend wants to come here for 4th of July and my parents need to know if we can go with them on their annual vaca - I haven't even started the job yet and I have to ask for vacation...ugh.
I should not be unloading all my crap on you sweet ladies - especially when you've been there, done that or are in the thick of it yourselves...
Good for you Sheila losing the weight!
Hope you are feeling better today, Sandy.

Sheila, the worst thing is mine are all grown, married, and out of the house...trust me, even then it doesn't end.......55 down to 44....petty bullshit......i could not even begin to tell you all the shit.....I would bore you to death......just stupid shit........never had problems with them as kids...once they got girlfriends, then married......they all reached genius status.......again bullshit.....and i am the go betweeen trying to keep the peace, and ready to tell them all to STFU....and I already have..........oh well shit happens........lalalalalalalalalalalalalala.....lthink I will go eat my homemade vegetable soup....
My 2 grandcildren that I watch after school gave me a gift card for a mani, pedi, and a 1 hour facial..........are they trying to tell me something........nah they are only 14, and 12........well maybe the 12 year old......she sure has her opi'nions....to the point she is hysterically funny......want the truth, ask a kid........lol -
(((Chris))) == you are not dumping...this is life...if this were a few years ago I'd be in the same place. I started work at age 55 and felt really good. I have saved $$ and spent it all on the colleges...last one has graduated and so I start on my impossible list. At a time when we need to be paying off our home, I want to remortgage and hire someone to oversee the work. And still, my mind jumps around like crazy focusing in on all that is wrong with the house, the family, and me! But the one saving thing is I try to do things that I love to do. I don't get resistance now, so finally, that works. I hope you will find that when you are working, you feel better as the need to concentrate pushes out the other stuff.
"barkathon" - perfect word! Does 'props' mean what is sounds like?? new word for me...Snowing here - beautiful big flakes, trees covered...but who needs it? Christmas is over, folks.
Linda, will try to keep the snow here. Was dressed, coffee in hand, ready to drive to a car dealer in Brooklyn (65 mi) for "really good deal"...we checked the internet and found their disclaimer that they can change the price any time even hourly depending on internet traffic... and that all prices are based on $2995 down and the rest must be financed with their company. They are not selling cars; they are selling money. In the scheme of life finding a car is not really much to worry about.
Sheila, stay warm and cozy...LOL about the eggs...yesterday when I was leaving NJ I got lunch and then stocked up on some easter candy...only one tiny bag of thin-shelled eggs...Dh finished them.
Sandy, hope you are starting to feel better...
Ducky...seems to me, all a mom wants is everyone else to be happy...and to be loved or at the least respected! What's so hard about that?? (ha ha no wonder we have to make our own happy world)Thanks for being here, TOL!
-
Ah yes - I am done with the microwave Sheila! I will get rechecked on Monday.
Chris - I have decided not to have any alcohol just to see if I get less snuffly. At conclusion of barkathon, I was regretting that I had made that commitment. Probably I could have been nicer - we are still being less than kind to each other today.
Ducky - sorry I don't keep up very welll - have you taken the f/n flight? Mani/pedi sounds great right now.
Joan - Sorry about the car BS. At least you read fine print before you got there - I bet that exists at a lot of places now. You will impress your students using "props" - Urban dictionary:
****props**** Slang term for "accolades", "proper respect", or "just dues". Popularized in the 1980s by rappers who shortened the term "propers" which was in turn being used as an abbreviated version of "proper respect" at least by the 1960s. -
Rain, not yet...April 4th......
Joan, your right......so right....hugs to all my dear friends...... -
Joan, are you a Costco member? They have a discount worked out with auto dealerships and get you the best price. Have purchsed two cars this way and very satisfied.
