    Not to worry, this jelly is almost 100% fruit, with just a touch of stevia to sweeten it. See? The ingredients are right here on the label. And the scones are made from whole wheat flour and local milk & butter. Th food here is yummy AND guilt-free (unless you're a vegan, then you'll have to skip the scones). Can't get much better than that!

    According to my diet, those scones would not be legal. But, there is a yummy recipe over on the "Wheat Belly" thread for scones using almond flour, coconut flour and flax. I'm definitely going to make those some day.

    Oh all that food sounds sooooo yummy, and yes scones are loaded with calories, and would definately make me too large!

    I don't think security guards make very much, but I'm not sure that's the case, so don't ask me to swear to it in court.

    I hope the air conditioner repair person will be here soon....its too hot and stuffy here and is making me sweat. Too bad our boss is a cheapskate and won't just buy all new air conditioning!

    You're right, wahine, he's a real skinflint. He expects the repair people to be charging the same rates now as they would have 30 years ago, but he raises what he charges his customers every time they look the other way.

    Sorry, count me out. We might be attacked by sharks! I don't think I could overcome my fears enough to enjoy exploring the reefs. I think I'll stay up on dry land and go bird-watching instead. Since this is a tropical island, I'll probably see my favorites--hummingbirds!

    My kitten, Wrigley, would freak out if he saw a hummingbird. It is all we can do to keep him off the cage withh our parakeets in it.

    OKAY, lets have a frank talk here (lol)....but I don't know of any tropical islands with hummingbirds. Prolly are some, but in HI there aren't any! And there are a lot of reefs that are very shallow...no sharks there as its just a few inches below the top of the water, and close to the shore. BUT you have to be careful and not step on any sea urchins, or you could get a sore puncture in your foot!

    (Neat that you have parakeets, Jane...we used to hand raise baby cockatiels, and also had an amazon parrot. I love birds, but had to give them all up when we started traveling so much.)

    wahine, that's because you're going the wrong direction. I meant the Caribbean tropics, not the South Pacific! There are several species of hummingbirds there. So I will remain in the ranks of the birdwatchers rather than joining you on the reef.

    I had a parakeet too, years ago. For sucy a tiny thing, that bird sure could bite! If I ever get a bird again it won't be any kind of parrot. But I think probably I will just stick with cats.

    One of my special memories is when a hummingbird drank nectar from my hand! Had to rescue it from the garage and it was sooooo sweet and soooo tiny. You all have fun on the island....I'm heading to Ireland in the morning (really)...then on to the island of Madeira.....can't wait to read all the adventures from this thread when I return! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

    That would be so cool! When I was a kid we had a hummingbird feeder hanging from a tree in our back yard. The hummies would come to the feeder even if we were sitting up in the tree, but I never had one actually drink from my hand!

    Have a great trip! I hope the thread doesn't go down the drain while you are gone. It seems to be just you, me and zogo playing, and now you are leaving. Maybe someone else will come and join us soon.

    Shoot, can't sleep, so have time for one more post! The hummies aren't in our area yet this year, but when they come, they are so territorial. We always have one that thinks the feeders are his/her own property and chase the others away. They really fight mean, too...we named the aggressive one "Atilla the Hum".

    The weather in Madeira right now is sunny and close to 70, but in Ireland it is cold,with some snow, and it also rains a lot this time of year. But thats what makes it so green and pretty! Thanks for the great trip wishes!

    I don't think so, zogo. I didn't really know where Madiera is, so I looked it up on Wikipedia. Politically, it's an autonomous region of Portugal, but on the map, it looks a little closer to the coast of North Africa than to Europe. The wikipedia article says most flights to Madiera go through Lisbon or Porto. Or there may also be flights directly to Madiera from the east coast of the US.

    Now I have to figure out some way to segue from all this geographical information to a new word. Some quiet music might help me think--could you perhaps improvise for a little while on the piano?

    I'm pretty rusty on the piano, but, my son is pretty good. He was the keyboardist in a pretty successful band.  I always made a point to go see them when they performed.

    @zogo, I never learned to play the piano at all, and don't have any children so I can't say they are better pianists than I am. I don't even think any of my nieces play!

    I think better switch to a different topic, before I get an inferiority complex. Wink But what subject? Hmmmm.....

    No thanks zogo. Spring is coming on fast and that's the time of year when it is most beautiful here in Washington State. The weather is getting warmer and dryer (60 degrees yesterday and today!) and flowers are starting to bloom. The daffodils are already out and recently I saw a tulip. Rhododendrons and azaleas are next and some of them are flowering now too. I'd hate to miss the spring in Seattle.

    LOL, just checking in for a bit, as we are in Dublin for a couple of days and spent a nite with a friend from bco too! In an authentic irish cottage! ANyway, our flights to Madeira were a nightmare as our first flt was cancelled so actually we WERE first rerouted to Spain, but then that was cancelled, so we went to Detroit, then Amsterdam, the Frankfurt, Lisbon and finally  Madeira...took 30 hrs!! Anyway, we had a good PILOT!

    yikes, what an odyssey! I don't know what would be worse, an extensive reroute like wahine's, or going straight to your destination and then flying in loops around the airport for ages, waiting for clearance to land. I don't fly much, so I've never had to deal with either.
