New Want To Play A Word Game

Ouch, do you need help getting the thorn out? I'll throw you a pair of tweezers and a bandaid. Catch!
(Curve, how awesome that your mom will have a smaller place and you will get your solitude)
-
I hope it isn't one of those teeny tiny thorns you can't see well enough to pull out. They're the worst!
Yeah, I am looking forward to it. I got the estimate from the second contractor yesterday, and it was way lower than the first one, but I think there are some items the first one included that the second one didn't, so I need to read both again more carefully. Also have to re-think my kitchen plans, because there isn't enough wall space to put the refrigerator where I planned to, other than a very expensive built-in model. Probably the door could move over enough to allow it, but that might open a can of worms as far as permits, required reviews etc, and add a bunch of cost. Maybe I will pop around to an appliance store and see if any of the smaller/apartment size models would fit. because I think my original plan is really a better layout than the only other place it's possible to put the fridge.
Even better, my niece who has been staying here the last two days got hired on the spot at her interview in Portland OR. So she and her son will be moving to the NW. Maybe we can all get together at my place for Thanksgiving dinner next year, since I will be between her home and my mom in the Seattle area.
-
It seems I got a thorn, too. But, mine is in my wrist.
-
I'm new to this thread. I love word games, can I join in? Are there any rules?
I've had thorns too. The one that hurt the most was on my WAIST. -
of course you can join in 2nd_time_around! And it looks like you already understand the rules--you change one letter and rearrange, just like you did to go from wrist to waist. Getting a thorn in your waist sounds painful! I'm going to stay away from those prickly roses! I think I'm overdosed on roses this year, from pruning a big old climber in my mom's yard that hadn't been touched for years. It took me eight hours spread over three weekends to do the job--longer than it took to do all of the other rose bushes, a dozen or so of them!
Let's plant some sweet-peas, I have a packet of seeds right here. They smell so good, and unlike roses, they don't have to be tied to the trellis. They cling by themselves, with little tendrils that twist around any nearby piece of string or wire. Then up they go, blooming all the way!
-
Hey, @2ndTimeAround, glad to have you join us! You've got the gist of the game. Sometimes our story get crazy and convoluted. Especially when we try to get witty! Or are just desperate to find the next word.
-
Thanks curveball and zogo! Just asked 'cause I got schooled on another site (following the "rules" but like I wasn't wanted there). Love word games so I'll try my hand at this.
Missed out on gardening and yard work since last fall as I had 2nd mx on Halloween (1st was 16 yrs prior, hence the name. Not reoccurrence, different bc). Going thru recon this time, so I missed the leaf raking, fall and water garden chores. Had a burst of energy couple weeks back so did a little bit of leaf raking, one day at a time. Roses were wild, so that's why the thorn on my waist. While I was working, saw my first hummingbird of the season, such a little itty BITTY marvel! (Can't bold words on my iPad, hoping caps will work) -
Well, that wasn't very nice for people to drive you away. People being rude drives me batty. We should be super supportive, especially on this site.
2ndTime, am I reading your signature right? Is your reconstruction surgery tomorrow?
-
Zogo.... (Grrr, silly auto-correct , keeps making it Zoo)... Yuppo, that's the case, tomorrow at this time (almost) fighting the freeway traffic on my way to hospital....plan to take it easy today sitting playing word games, otherwise will probably overdo trying to keep busy....
Still introducing myself to this thread. Many think I'm MATTY
-
Welcome Maddy! My youngest g'dau is Madeline, so we call her Maddy too. My name is Kathy. Wow, your surgery is tomorrow, are you all prepared? Like what you can/can't do after you get home? Try to have things at waist height, take a pillow in the car for your way home, to pad betwn you and the seat belt (so it won't touch your chest), etc. We'll be thinking of you, and be sure to let us know how it went, ok? Thanks for joining us here!
I've been doing some small acrylic paintings, and then I like to spray them with a matte clear spray to protect them. (And yes, Maddy, your capital letters work just fine!). That was a HUMONGOUS rose bush you tackled, Curve! Wow, lots of thorns in that one, I'm sure.
-
You're right, wahine, it was enormous, and even after pruning it's still really big. Most of what I cut off was dead already, and then I trimmed out some branches that were crossing and tangled. But with a bush that size, you cut off a branch at the bottom and then, when you pull it out to put it in the yard waste bin, it's ten feet long! Anyway, I finally got it tamed. And I found a piece that had been lying on the ground so long it rooted, so I cut that away and put it in a pot. Maybe I will have a piece of that old rosebush at my new place. But so far it hasn't sprouted any leaves so I'm starting to give up on it. I'll keep it in the pot and water it this summer, but if it hasn't sprouted by next spring, out it goes! I'm pretty sure I know the name of the variety, and it's still in cultivation, so even if I have no success with this sprout and the cuttings I took before I started pruning, I may still buy a plant of the same variety--but probably not the climbing version!
-
Thanks, Wahine! This thread will be fun.
Do you still have memories of Hawaii or were you young when you moved? Totally ready for surgery, especially mentally and emotionally, no freak-outs for me!
Only finger-painting for me, no art abilities.
My recovery is so much easier this go-around. I have so many supportive TEAMS - my BS/PS and their staff, BCO, and many friends - it's been a great experience! (If I have to have BC).
-
Oh yes, Maddy, lots of memories...I moved away when I was 22, and used to go back to visit almost yearly. But we moved my parents here a few months ago, and I haven't been back since I helped them move. My dad misses it so much as he had never lived anywhere else (and he's 96!). His home sold the first day......location, location, location....a block from an almost private beach (the celebrities own a lot of the homes right on the beach), and it has been voted the best beach in the world before. SO they will go back in June for 3 wks (after we take them to Paris and Prague). I'll go back with them when its cooler, prolly Sept or later. When I do go back I eat so much of the food I can't get here, that I feel like my clothes are splitting at the seams! Oh, I paint easy stuff, you could do it....my mom is the artist and I have a lot of her framed work...mine are just simple and fun, sometimes whimsical.
-
I'm terrible at art, but DD is quite good. She has decided to study Industrial Design at college and is about to make her decision on where to attend.
When you compare our art, mine is quite messy.
(thinking of you Maddy. hope all goes well with the recon today)
-
Heading to the casinos for a few days...about 5 hrs of driving, hope not too many cars on the road, especially hoping there aren't too many "semis".
(Hope thats the right slang for "semi-tractor trailer trucks" or whatever they are actually called!)
Have a good weekend!!!! And yes, Maddy, hope it goes smoothly today, remember to TAKE IT EASY when you get back home!!!
-
Kathy, can I come to the casinos with you? I'm not very lucky usually, but if I won the jackpot, I'm sure I'd have a big smile
-
Thanks, Zogo surgery went great! Just started late, my PS arrived an hour late to draw LINES all over my chest with a purple marker. Slept most of day yesterday, woke up a couple hours ago for a pain pill, started watching tv to try to fall asleep. That didn't work, so back to my newest addiction - BCO. Have a great Saturday all!
-
Welcome Back~ Maddy, glad to hear you made it through the surgery. Yes, rest is the best thing you can do for yourself. Good thing BCO doesn't take alot of energy
lol.
My Saturday is not much more exciting, I get to go through piles of neglected paperwork. I'm really great at procrastination...so, here I am on BCO, too!
-
Thanks, Zogo... Plan to rest up. The pain meds I'm on (Percocet) are really strong and leave me disoriented. Might need to change to something not so strong. They cause me to not be able to walk a straight and am afraid of the SLIPS and falls they may cause. And I'm having trouble writing a complete and comprehensible sentence so hoping this makes sense.
-
Oh the strong pain meds have their place, but it is always nice to get off of those pills. They make me fuzzy in the head!
-
I always like to get to the end of a prescription too. Sometimes the thought of the strong meds we use to treat cancer fills me with anxiety. But the idea of having cancer and doing nothing about it makes me even more nervous, so I take my anastrozole every day.
-
Curveball... I take Anastrozole too. I think of them as my Nasty pills because they sometimes do funny things to my tummy. When my tummy FLIPS, a bathroom better be near.
(Sorry if TMI... Blame it on the pain meds) -
So glad your surgery went well, Maddy! Have not had luck at the casinos, but having yummy food, lobster, fillets, drinks, etc. I had problems with my toes from the long flights we have taken lately, so ended up wearing Fit Flops which are so comfy (similar to flipflops, but a thick "rocker" sole, with good arches). Was hoping to get in practice for Vegas in a couple of weeks but maybe I'd better just see the shows, and stay away from the table games and slots! LOL.
-
Wahine, thank you, feeling so much better. Pain meds dull my brain so it's taken a while to think what I want to say. Sounds like you've been having fun with the casinos, have never heard of Fit Flops before.
Learning a whole lot on BCO. Never knew before that during reconstruction, the upper part of the breast known as the SLOPE is also referred to as POLES for both breasts. -
I caught a cold while away on my trip and it's taking way too long to get over it. I got back a week ago but I still want to sleep half of the day. Usually it only takes me three or four days to get over a cold.
I hope chemo last year didn't completely trash my immune system.
Only two days of work left, then I will be on vacation until I retire May 1!!!
-
Maddy, great job on using the letters in 2 words! Your brain can't be too dull from the meds.
Kathy, I have a pair of FitFlops in black patent. Love them, but it's still too dang cold to wear them.
Hope you're feeling better soon Curve. It stinks to be sick.
We've all had a bug this winter. I always know my son is feeling better when he leaps out of bed.
-
Curve... hope you're feeling better soon! Zogo... always sad to see a little one under the weather, great when they rebound.
Kathy and Zogo... warm enough here to wear Fit Flops, just too tired to go for a walk.
Love this thread! Keeps me on my toes and could spend lots of time here. I want to STEAL some zzzzz's. -
Maddy, I see you live in sunny southern California, our weather here in Wisconsin pales in comparison. Especially with this winter-like spring (or "sprinter" as it has fondly been called). We even had snow a few days ago. Good thing the summers are awesome or we would never last.
-
Jane?
Just waking up, my brain's still asleep, might appear as a LAPSE in thought. Yesterday was a beautiful warm day. Sunny California today? Not today, weather feels like rain and my body aches. Weather is so extreme here and forecasters never get it right. I think today will be a good day to rest.
Have a great day everyone! -
Sorry you are feeling achey, Maddy. At least you can take the day to rest up. Recovery takes a long time. Take care of yourself! ((hugs))
