Retail Therapy

Ducigirl I love what u got---good idea
-
I'm down and out from exchange, lift and lipo guess its time for some quality time on Nordstrom.com for me these next couple days :-)
-
DH gave me a shopping spree (with an upper $ limit)at our local jewelry store for christmas so yesterday I got to go jewelry shopping. So far I have picked out a brown tahitian pearl necklace and a pair of white gold earrings. I still have some money left but am feeling kind of guilty and a bit spoiled. I bet I overcome the guilt and just go with the spoiled feeling.
-
Great thread! Bought myself 2 bunches of yellow daffodils and a new jacket today! In the past I probably would have passed up the flowers rationalizing that I didn't really need them. Well, today I needed them!
-
Merlcat u deserve the Norstrom thing--just enjoy it--u'll feel better
PJ never feel guilt with shopping--if u poison someone then guilt is allowed--but shopping just consider u'r self nicely spoiled and u must deserve it.
Bren flowers are needed when u want them--it's time to bring more pretty into u'r home..

Dulcigirl,
I had to look up bench grinder...what are you making? -
I am using the buffing wheels to help me restore a bicycle that was built in 1896.
Cuz that's how I roll. ;-) -
That is so cool. You definitely have an interesting passion. How did you find the bicycle? Retail therapy has many facets like flea markets and garage sales that become harder with BC. I think retail therapy is underated and misunderstood.
Just lost a friend to lung cancer. She managed to get to a phone and went 'shopping' the week before she died. She had 4 sisters. Her packages arrived while they were gathered at her home. She had the biggest smile when she announced her shopping trip and the sisters had the best laughs every time the doorbell rang.
I love this thread because it talks about kindness, comfort and passions...not what I expected.
Does an 1896 bike have that big front wheel? -
I find myself in a dream situation of sorts - helping friends remodel a condo as they have work constraints and are not available - so I am shopping with other people's money! How awesome is that? And, I am getting paid for it - my husband said hey - I finally found a way to get paid to shop!
-
The first bike I fixed up was an 1899 that I won on Ebay. The 1896 I'm working on I found online in a round-about way. And as soon as I finish that one I need to fix the next one which is also turn of the century...and Ebay again. All three of these are Ladies Safety bikes...similar in style to modern cruisers I guess. But I have ridden a highwheel once and it was glorious. I would LOVE to find one of those some day.
-
Dulcigirl, I visualize you using your grinding wheel in those hot pink stilettos! I did recently see an ad (can' remember what it was for) where a pretty young woman was riding a bike in high heels.
Really, a good tool is as good as a new piece of jewelry. I heard a Corona pruning saw recommended on a radio garden program. Bought one for DH for his birthday. It is fabulous and I recently used it to cut an 8" palmetto stump. I felt like Paul Bunyan!
I have decided how to spend the last little bit of my Christmas "shopping spree" money so will go to the jeweler's tomorrow. I have managed to stretch this gift out to almost a month and a halfIt has been fun to drop into the shop and just browse. Also interesting how my idea of what I want has changed from visit to visit. Glad I took my time and did not act impetuously.
Now I have to figure out what to get DH for valentine's day. He will be happy with nutty chocolates (which I do not like) so that is likely going to be it. It's just so hard to buy for men. Maybe some nice steaks cooked at home since he does not like to dine out when it is crowded.
Any great ideas? -
Valentine's Day is my exchange date...so I'm thinking if the PS gives me a little extra that should cover DH's gift.
;-)
(Just kidding!!!!!) -
Dulcigirl - LOL!!!!!
-
kaza, you are a genius.
Ladies, I have been craving a Vitamix forever. You are going to push me over the edge! Don't do it... don't push me..
Since I have this new lump (partial mx 2008) and am now thrown into testing (mammo u/s last week MRI next week then BS blah blah blah) I have bought:
delicious caudalie body oil from sephora
and also sephora -- black and purple thick crayon eyeliner
have put blue streaks in my hair -- hairdresser says they are classy -- btw I am 42
and I've also bought a bunch of 'supersoft' tees and leggings from gap -- I highly recommend these, don't know if I can wear anything else now
and I bought my partner two new work outfits
and I bought two new fluffy ridiculous cozy blankets from brookstone, and cozy socks from there as well.
This may not seem too bad, but for me it's a wild spending spree!
oh, and more caudalie. Have been kicked into early menopause. Splashed out on excellent moisturizer.
Adding this to my favorites immediately. Please don't push me to get a Vitamix!

I guess I shouldn't tell you that I bought one about six months ago....love it...lol
-
I bet it is great! Don't give me recipes!!!
-
I promise....lol
-
bobogirl - Our Costco had the VitaMix on demo last week....lots of yummy samples.....you should check it out! Just sayin'.....
(Off to make a smoothie now...)
~~~~
Which reminds me... we just got back from the Home Show at the Fairgrounds...where all the vendors gather in the Spring for all things home and garden.
We walked for THREE HOURS!!! The only thing I bought was an antique watering can for $5....just what I need..I already have a collection...
But the cool thing is at the VitaMix demo booth, I stopped and pointed out the special spatulas to DH. When the demonstrator found out that I already had a VitaMix, plus had recently bought three extra containers, and used my machine at least three times a day, he just gave me the spatula and said thanks!
-
Hi bobogirl........your shopping spree sounds real fab........good to read all fellow members are getting back on track with lovely treats we all so deserve!!!!!it dosnt have to cost toooo much...even a new lippy makes me feel good. Well spring is here in England maybe time to do a little tee...searching.....hugs to all xx
-
Hi Scottie1.......good to hear you are treating yourself we all so deserve it...wish we could all meet up would buy the biggest cream cake possible...have it specially made....what fun that would be xx
-
Blessings! You are a Vitamix goddess! At this point they just hand you accessories. You have achieved full Vitamix status!
Scottie, I am waiting for my recipes. No, don't do it!
Kaza, where are in England? Am playwright. Will you please go to the theatre for me and report back? Nobody does it better. Can't remotely get there right now. Also: I love Boots. I know it's mundane for you. But there is nothing as good here.
I am wishing for some new pajamas. Suggestions?
-
Hi Ladies....sorry I have not been posting lately....too cold in Toronto to be out and about
hitting the stores, BUT yesterday we had sort of spring like weather so took myself off
and had a pedi...plus I bought a beautiful pair of knee high leather boots (Fry) they were $400 on sale for $200 ...soft soft leather. I also bought a sweater to through over jeans
Wool and silk...so soft $120 on sale for $50.....oh it's dangerous to let me lose on the streets.....lol. AND spring and summer are just beginning....think I'll ask my DH to lock me up..lol -
I got a pair of cycling shoes yesterday!!!!! So exciting!! 1) Because, YAY!!! New shoes!!! Lol! and 2) Because cycling is a "normal" thing that I enjoy and look forward to! YAY!!! And it has nothing to do with boobs!! (Except for the part where I can't wear two of my favorite jerseys now because the new girls are showing off a bit too much for my shy personality....)
-
Wow Scottie haven't heard of Frye boots in years , Which shop had them on sale? Malls in my area were darn busy yesterday. Went out with DD. She is setting up her apt. Found a rug at ABC Carpet then went over to Century 21 to just browse and see what was new. Got a pair of Ray Ban Wayfares with a multicolor frame for myself. Then DD treated me to lunch at Whole Foods. I all a very good for me both shopping, outside weather and emotional weather
-
NYC ....Fry boots are very popular here in Canada as the quality is so good. I didn't
buy them at a mall, I bought them at a little boutique in my neighbourhood....last pair...my size....should have bought a lottery ticket...lol -
Scottie:
Thank goodness for your spree! I have been waiting and waiting for an update. And a pedi! I was just contemplating getting one. A blue one. What color is yours?
NYCc, your afternoon sounds so nice. Love lunch at W Foods. And cycling shorts! Dulci, I love spinning. And it has nothing to do with boobs. Looking forward to hearing cycling adventures!!
-
My girlfriend talked me into getting one of the new spring colors....mint green....hate it, but it's only colour....I'll go back to slutty red next time....lol
-
I'm pretty sure Frye boots are big here even though I'm not a boot wearer, except next winter I am paying retail (read that as I don't much care what price) a nice pair of black short heeled dress boots. Mega shoe retailer Designer Shoe Warehouse didn't even have a pair I liked. Likes run more to guy styled dress boots.
Anyone bought a purse lately? I have a prob. 10 year old black leather shoulder strap I like but am so tired of it. Anyone ever bought a Madi Claire bag off one of the HSNs? They looked good and reasonable for a leather bag. Where do you buy one these days? Ross used to have good ones but I'm not paying a princely sum for fake leather. Black/brown not choosy. Not a gal who changes purses daily. Will occas. carry straw one for church but change right back.
-
Luvmygoats....Michael Kor bags are to die for....a little pricey but the quality is there.
-
I have always alternated between black and brown leather purses. After my diagnosis I started using lively, colorful Vera Bradley bags. Fun, fun, fun!!!
