-
Hi to all and my surgery sister Maureen 1! Yes we are going to do great and know that with all my heart!!!I dont always know all the terms to use but Im sure we all understand each othier which is a great thing to know.
-
Maureen, what an organizer you are.
I just got called and scheduled bilateral mastectomy with TE's Monday March 25th. Finally was told this week that DIEP was not an option for me so ready to do with this as reconstruction. Now the coutdown begins plus all the managment of household with 3 little kids who will happen to be on Spring Break the next week - not best timing but I was not wanting to put this off any longer! They are probably going to think it is just fantastic that they will be allowed for once to sit and watch as many movies as they please during that week!

Wow, we have a big March group! Hello there Ladies, well I know those with March surgeries are on the time clock now until their surgeries. Mine is March 20th at 7:30 AM. We have to be at hospital at 5:30! I'm not worried about me, I'll be knocked out in 2 hours after arrival, but my mother and boyfriend will have a very long day and one of my brothers and his wife I've said it's fine to come once I'm in surgery...no need to get there so early!
Even though I did this before last May for right sided Mx and TE placement, I find I am getting more nervous now. It's just been a long year. I find I'm talking about it more to friends and such, because I know I am reaching out for someone to give words of support. Or maybe the more I talk it won't seem so scary. Again, I've been through it already, but I'm still losing another body part! I am having preventative on the left side now. I feel thankful every day though that I am not losing an arm, a leg....etc...
Nikstar, hang in there! For my first surgery I was a wreck, but I also got a meditation CD to help me relax a bit (It was recommende to me on this site). I kept saying calming things to myself before surgery and when they were wheeling me in. It did help a bit. I even took some anti-anxiety meds at the time ( still do actually). Don't be afraid to get all the help you can get and deserve! This is a HUGE weight and you need help. I hope you have support around you and hugs. We are here for you. Come say whatever you need to and we are with you!!
Thinking of Keke today with her surgery today....healing thoughts her way!
Butterflylady (Sharon)
-
patricia and forever, yes here we are together on another thread! Patricai, what are you having done? Can't remember though I know you are having last Taxol today.
keke, we can't wait to hear from you!
Then so many of us next week! I had my pre op phone consult today and am so ready to get this over with!

Here is a letter that my mother wrote for everyone's an update for today's doctor appointments ;
Hi everyone,
Well today was the first milestone with Shari. She completed chemotherapy and we celebrated that. She also had all her imaging done - MRI, mammogram, and ultrasound. The results were very good. The tumor shrunk and is about half its size. Also the lymph nodes look better.
Overall, the degree of background intensity (cancer cellular its in tumor) is minimal which is a significant difference from the prior one. Before, it was moderate to severe. The chemo did its job. Yah!!!
Tuesday, we meet with another plastic surgeon up here. If all works out, Shari will have surgery at the end of March-- removal of the tumor, mastectomy, and dissection of the lymph nodes. Biopsy. Hopefully those will be good too.
So for now a weekend of celebration.
Again thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers. They are working and keep them coming.
Love,
Rita. (Mom)
Would have loved for bigger response but doc says that that's not always likely in er/pr positive her2 negative cancers... And she say I had good response....will know for definite at surgery...
What worries me a little also is that I have read(I know, bad )that MRI are not always as accurate for measurement of residual cancer withthissame tumor type in so some others. Say er negative and/or her 2 positive.... It's like when I get good news, I always let something push,e back down...
Anybody hear that about mri's? -
Wow, March 2013 surgery sisters we are a big group, here's an updated list, please let me know if I've forgotten anyone or any details - (((hugs))) to our new sisters...all the more love and support:)

I am newly diagnosed, Rt IDC found on annual mammogram, and am having BMX with DIEP on March 4th. Also, not sure how to post this, but have bilateral IDC, the 2nd breast (left) diagnosed when an MRI was done pre-operatively before an anticitpated Rt lumpectomy. This finding was a game changer.
I was originally a candidate for Rt lumpectomy/radiation, but now, BS says I seem to be at risk to develop these tumors for whatever reason, so need to have all breast tissue removed. No family hx of breast or ovarian canvcer. Am totally stunned. Even BS was shocked with the IDC being found simultaneously in the Lt breast. She has told us that this is very rare, but from my research, seems to occur in 1-3 out of 100. That doesn't sound rare to me.
Have had the BRCA1 and 2 with BART sent out and am waiting for the results, have 2 grown daughters I am now worried about. So glad I found this forum
, it has been extremely helpful to me!
-
(((ironmagnolia))) welcome to the March 2013 surgery group...anne and I will be your surgery sisters on March 4th, we'll be sending our positive vibes. So sorry, sounds like you were blindsided by the MRI findings. I was scared for my girls too because my mother died of breast cancer, then I was diagnosed, but my BRAC was negative so at least it does not seem to be genetic, I hope you have good news on the genetic testing too.

I can't believe how much our list has grown. Great job in keeping it up Maureen. Hope all is well keke. On to Monday's group. Hope the weekend is restful for all with up coming surgeries. Thinking of you all knowing how hard this is anticipating surgery. This anticipation is the worst part of it all. Once it is over the healing can begin. Hugs to all as we wait our turn, not always patiently!

Yay I'm home!! Surgey was started at 715 this morning and I was finished and in recovery by noon..I chose not to spend the night at the hospital and was home and resting in bed by 330 this afternoon! I have to say the worst part was waking up from anesthesia. Everything else hasn't been too too bad.. I def have some pain doing little tasks and have had a couple melt downs and just cried due to pain, but as long as I'm sitting in bed and not moving much I'm ok! I was prescribed lortabs 7.5 and for some reason they haven't seemed to work one bit..I called the dr
And he told me to take 2 at a time instead of one.. So I did and still no relief...Waking up from naps has been pretty painful also..so I'm going to see how I feel waking up tonight and tomorrow morning and if it's horrible and painful, I'm going to call my dr again and try for something to take the edge off. This def hasnt been as horrible as I expected! So ladies who have your surgeries coming up, try not to worry! It's not as bad as to think it will be :-) -
Keke, you're simply amazing to be posting so soon. Incredible strength. Hopes and prayers for a speedy recovery!
-
Keke so glad you are doing so well so soon! As we are having similar surgeries it gives me hope. Hugs and prayers for Monday's group. Try to relax this weekend and something special for yourselves. Thinking of you all.
Karrie -
YAAY (((Keke))) - you are our March trailblazer and an inspiration to those of us getting ready for surgery! I know you are in pain and it is so kind of you to post your positive comments to reassure us...thanks so much:) Wow - you came home the same day, that is even better!! I would love to come home the same day, my surgery starts a little later than yours but maybe they would consider letting me come home, I always sleep better in my own bed. I'm sure some pain is inevitable but you should definitely push your doctor for more pain meds if you continue to hurt...I do not like pain meds, especially narcotics but Tylenol #3 worked pretty good after my lumpectomy and AND but I had to take two at a time for a while. Take care of yourself...you sure got the month off to a great start for the rest of us...anne, ironmagnolia and I will try to keep the positive momentum going on Monday:) (((Hugs))) Maureen
-
Finally have my surgery rescheduled! Will be joining Lou4of7 on 3/27/13. BMX with TE's was originally scheduled for 2/27, but developed a bizarre skin abscess (on my lower ribcage) out of the blue, so had to be rescheduled. Ready to get this over with. So weary of waiting.....
-
Thanks for the welcome Maureen! Just wish none of us had to be in this club....
The March list has grown so much this week!! My surgery date was only set on Mon 2/25, so I've been scrambing this week to tie up loose ends at work and at home to prepare. So ready to get this show on the road.
-
Welcome to the March 2013 surgery group (((MauiGirl)))...yes, the waiting is the worst, so sorry that must have been so tough to get ready for surgery and have to be rescheduled...glad your surgery date is set:)
Ironmagnolia...I'm with ya...I think we are all scrambling to get things done before surgery YIKES! house to clean, stock up on food for family, finish last minute work stuff, etc...but, then again...it does keep my mind from going places it doesn't need to go right now...when I stop and think or someone gives me a hug and "best wishes" my eyes fill up with tears, rather be busy and smiling right now:)
