I'm having my surgery March 28. A skin-sparing mastectomy on the right side, and the surgeon will remove some of my lymph nodes at the same time.  That is a really uneducated way to put it, I know, but I honestly can't remember the technical terms for everything.

One moment, I am terrified of how I will feel when I wake up after the surgery, when a part of me is just gone.

The next moment, I can't wait to "get the show on the road" and kick out this freeloader of a tumor!

I hope all the surgeries all went well today. You have all been in my thoughts. Post when you can and let us know how you're doing.

Good luck to tomorrow's crew- Jenamae, Marian, Tracey, and Anne. I know you'll do great.

I am anxiously awaiting my turn on Friday. Turning into a bundle of nerves. I'm hoping that the waiting is worse than the recovery.

I am slotted to have a lumpectomy on March 8 but do not know yet what time.  I am hoping to see if I can get an MRI beforehand to see if I'm looking at more than what's been found so far.  I found a lump in my breast around the first part of February and had a same-day with the doc.  Finally got a mammogram and ultrasound on February 14 with biopsy on the 15th.  Results came back IDC in my right breast, and the mass is ER+/HER2+.  I'm 37 with three children.  I've been having pains in my pelvis for quite some time now and with all the research (probably shouldn't have been doing that as the things I'm finding at times freak me out, but I like to try to educate myself as much as possible), there could be some issues with my ovaries.  Plus since I've found the lump the first part of February, the lump has changed in size and shape.  In addition, I found another lump just to the right of the first one and I'm also now having pain in my left breast -- once again, could be psychosomatic.  I'm beginning to get very anxious of every lump and pain and would love to have more information about what's going on in my body.

Best of luck to all of our March surgeries, ladies!  Praying every one of us come out at the end of this survivors!

Lin43 - I am scheduled for a 12:30 operation but need to be at the hospital by 10:00 am.  I am getting nervous about the entire procedure and praying the LN are clear.  Trying real hard to be positive. Getting a lot of well wished and hugs has been awesome.  Warm thoughts and prayers to all of my surgery sisters and gentle hugs :)

Hi everyone, I'm new to these boards but have been following along for a while. I had a mastectomy with TE on the left breast on March 1st. Before the surgery I was quite terrified, uncertain that I was doing the right thing, full of doubts. I feel so much better now, so I wanted to share that with those of you still waiting and wondering. The reality was not as bad as the anticipation and fear.

I had 2 lumpectomy surgeries and radiation for DCIS in 2011, so I was shocked when my regular mammogram in February showed recurrence. Because I had the maximum radiotherapy in 2011, mastectomy was the only option presented. I went back and forth between wanting to do nothing at all, or having a double mastectomy. I was persuaded by the docs to do the left mastectomy with TE now, then decide on reduction or prophylactic mastectomy on the right side later.

The pain has been quite manageable, not as bad as my rotator cuff repair a few years ago. I spent one night in the hospital then went home on antibiotics, oxycodone and arnica. The home care nurse has visited twice and was impressed that my plastic surgeon prescribed arnica before and after the surgery. Not sure if it's effective but today I woke up feeling great.

Best wishes to all those going through this, it helps to know we're not alone. We can make it!

BTW, anne, my grandson also though I was having a baby..

Hello lady's, just to let every know it is so true that the anticipation and fear are so much worse than any thing. But if some told me that Sunday I would not believed them. I am home and resting nice in my chair and pillows. Get a little sore when I walk but still need to be moving some.I hope every one feels as good as I do when they are done with there surveys but everyone is a little different.I did have a left mastectomy and axillary lymph node dissection. So good luck to everyone and hugs!

    Hi Everyone!

I hope you don't mind me joining in the fun! I am 28 and having a lumpectomy of a tumor at the 12 o'clock position in my left breast as well as an excisional biopsy of a mass under the left arm tomorrow both with needle loc.

My other symptoms are dimpling on the outer side of the breast and a rash. I was treated for shingles and with antibiotics but neither helped.  I am getting married on the 16th and flying to Hawaii the 17th for the honeymoon so I'm hoping to be recovered enough to go no matter what the news is.

SO happy to find this group. Sorry you all are going through this as well but it sure is nice to have people to talk to that understand!

I wanted to ask a quick question if you ladies don't mind! I had an MRI yesterday (just two days before surgery) and was wondering if any of you had your surgery plan changed last minute due to results of an MRI? His office hadn't received them yet and won't until this afternoon but he said that he *may* have to take much more than planned depending on what it showed. Thanks :)

    TXWildFlower,

Hello and Welcome.  Yes, my surgery has changed since my MRI.  I had lumpectomy first for just a benign fibro then found cells around fibro that were abnorma, then went looking for more with MRI and found more so it was just suppossed to be a wider excision of the origional lumpectomy site that has now turned into a bilateral mastectomy.  That being said - I am acutally glad I had MRI - was not glad to find more areas - BUT I would rather know going into surgery what was exactly going on then always wonder till the next time if everything was looked at throughly.  Keep us posted!

whisperwhillow - hello to you too!  I hear you - same age 37 and three little kids 9,6,and 3.  We still have not told them what is all going on.  I think my husband and I will this weekend - when we still have 2 weeks to go.  It will be enough for them to ask questions but not too much time to dwell on it.  Also I am deciding if I will tell teachers because my surgery will be a Monday and I will be overnight so  I am thinking I need to let teachers know incase they are anxious at all that day - or lets say daddy forgets to pack snacks or something!!!  Ha ha!!!

3mom- Thanks or your reply! I just got the call for the MRI results and they said it looked 'good'. I am a little confused because I have an area of thickening under the left arm as well as a small lump which can be easily felt and I don't know why it didn't show on MRI. The thickening showed on mammogram and ultrasound but the MRI is normal (besides the other tumor they are removing). Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? I am SO confused.

Anne...You had the same surgery I'll be having only on the opposite side. Thanks for the hugs. So glad to hear you are up and moving about! I am drinking plenty of fluids to wash out a bad reaction I had to a drug infusion last week. Heart rate is still elevated a bit but they are saying I am good for surgery tomorrow morning. Gotta get this done!!!

Maureen...great to see you back on board! Hope you can get some well deserved and much needed rest on those pain pills.

    Gentle hugs to all!

My surgery is definitely the 12th. Double mastectomy with axillary removal on the left and hopefully sentinel node only on the right. I am not positive of whether or not they will be putting in tissue expanders, yet.
