I'd love to go back in my time machine and see what these people said about WMDs.  Let's talk about real issues with real consequences.

Sunflowers - and those military men and women get paid the same, no matter what.  It feels so silly to defend.  As someone said, "Is this all they have?"

btw, what did they say about Michelle and the "Mom Dance?"  I loved it!

In my books, Mrs. Obama was the BEST presenter at the Oscars!  And what a gorgeous dress she wore!

And, as someone (including Kam) said "Is this all they have?"  YEP!  Complaining about the President going out and about and talking to Americans, the First Lady supporting the military and veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan, and kids, and fighting obesity, and growing a vegetable garden and bringing in kids to learn about good food and where it comes from, and supporting the arts.  Gee, aren't those all pretty admirable qualities? Anyone who says no deserves to be ignored, totally!

Doesn't the world watch the Oscars??  I think it is always good to show a good face to the world and we all know, other than the extreme right in our own country, the Obamas are well liked.

I think the subject matter of Argo made it very appropriate for Michelle Obama to present that Oscar.  I'm sure that is why it was done.  Nice touch IMO.

ETA ... and it was nice of her to take the time and trouble to get all dressed up and do it.  I'd bet she would rather have been kicked back in comfy clothes just chilling and watching the whole thing like the rest of us.

Let's face it the "others" were all wrapped up watching Duck Dynasty and waiting for the Rapture......no wonder they're upset all the time.

sandy - tee, hee...that's one I missed, oh woe is me......more giggles!  Full disclosure, don't have any idea what it is!

Kam - I LOVED the mom dance - I think MRO is SO wonderful, can't say enough good things about her - her energy!  Courage - she just keeps moving into "new" territory - and charming the world as she does....

Don't think ANYONE knew who would win Best Pic - until envelopes opened - but was certainly SPECIAL it was ARGO - and reminded the world what FRIENDS, ALLIES are...and how they treat each other...."Oh, Canada" shudda been sung during presentation, IMHO Wink

Suppose many on here are too young to remember Richard Nixon appearing on Laugh In delivering the line....."Sock It to Me?" Bill Clinton playing saxophone on Letterman.

Mrs. Obama was classy and OMG I LOVE THAT DRESS!!!

Thanks for the blog link, Sunflowers.

And Cherryl, you're right....to the extreme right wing tea party crowd, the The President and First Lady can do nothing right.

I, for the life of me, don't get the extreme hate some people have in their heart for OUR first lady.  Obviously, they are sooo angry that her husband was re-elected, but the irrational reaction to her?  I'm guessing they must be jealous over her class, her loving family, her intelligence, her admirable causes, etc....

The clip with Jimmy Fallon on the "mom" dancing was very funny:

Love this photo of her from last night:

I think she will go down in history as one of our greatest first ladies.

It is all about jealousy!   I hear she shouldn't even go to a hairdresser because it costs the tax payers!  Bunch of sore losers.

She IS beautiful and one of the BEST First Ladies!

No it's really about racism. Although other First Ladies have been criticized for all sorts of things, this time it is malicious.

I think its also the internet because they are anonymous and feel safe spewing all that hatred.  If someone tried to feed me some of the garbage they post, in person, I would have them for lunch!  Lucky for them my typing skills have diminished!

Blue - your last graphic is so pertinent!  "They" wanted to close loopholes, seemingly because they are allowing people to avoid paying taxes they should be paying. Isn't that implied when one says "loophole?"  Now that marginal tax rates have been raised, all of sudden loopholes are AOK.  Where's the morality there?

Never saw Mrs. Kenney, Mrs. Carter, or even Hilary, treated so miserably as they treat Michelle.  What's there to object to and what is the difference between her and the other Democratic FLOTUS's.  Pretty obvious.

MHO is that the tea partiers and their ilk show nothing more than a total lack of class and a lack of old fashioned brain cells.  I have alluded to it before, but I'll come right out and say it now...I despised Little W. Bush.  However, I said nothing to anyone but my husband ( not even my best friends knew ) because my opinion would not have changed one thing and would have made me look like a sore loser unwilling to support the highest office that we have.

I think the Tea Party has reached a place where this is all they have.  Sadly, I think they are only fooling themselves...whatever substance they may have once had is no longer and all that is left is hurling insults and mocking.  That just doesn't say much in the long run.

We have a most wonderful Pres. and he has an equally wonderful wife who does have the grace and style to behave much better than those who mock and belittle her love of life and country.  We have always had First Ladies and one I particularly actually enjoyed was the feisty Barbara Bush.  I think few would forget that Jackie Kennedy updated the White House.  History I'm sure will have wonderful things to say about this President and his gracious, charming, hard-working First Lady wife and mother.

    Jackie

p.s.  we are on the next page but I loved the animal video

Well, Chickadee, I will say that when I google to look for a nice photo or meme of Michelle Obama, I'm amazed and disgusted of the amount of racist memes, cartoon, etc... about her.  Just disgusted.  Don't know who's making and posting those, but someone certainly is...........just sayin'.

Oh, the wingnut hysteria surrounding the Clintons was pretty bad. It wasn't racist like it is surrounding the Obamas, but it was bad. Remember Whitewater? And the whole Vince Foster insanity -- dragging that poor man's family through the mud over and over again by accusing the Clintons of variously murdering him or having him killed. Remember the supposed airstrip in Arkansas (oh, for pete's sake, ARKANSAS!) into which Bill was supposedly smuggling drugs. To the wingnuts, the Clintons were actually the Antichrist. Really, both of them together were the Antichrist, and left a trail of dozens of bodies buried all around Arkansas.

Now the Obamas are the new Antichrist to the nuts ... And worse. Never mind that St. Ronnie took us from being the largest creditor nation to the largest debtor nation in the world, beginning our long financial decline. And then there is Shrub, who lied us into a war with a country that didn't attack us, created terrorist groups where none existed before (thanks, Shrub, for al Quaeda in Iraq), destabilized the entire Middle East by removing a strong Iraq as a counterweight to a fanatical Iran, tanked the economy and handed his successor the largest deficit in history. Mmmmhmmmm ... And the wingnut peanut gallery wants to whine about the First Lady's hair while the Republican House sits on its hands and cheers the possibility of tanking the recovery that is taking place slowly and in spite of their best efforts. I don't even want to talk to any of them because there is no common ground. We do not even speak the same language.

I am ashamed of the depressingly large segment in this country who loathes the First

Family because they are black. Some of them admit it, some of them lie about it, but they are all embarrassments to the United States. We are supposed to be better than that. Act like it. Grow up. Live in the real world.

Re: Argo - I was working in the State Department when the hostage crisis started. I was at the White House in the crowd to welcome the hostages home after they were released. Over my years in the foreign affairs community, I worked in various capacities with a half-dozen of the former hostages, and I was friends with a few. I remember when we learned of the Canadians' bravery and generosity in saving those Americans who escaped being taken hostage. I remember that folks at the Brookings Institution at Dupont Circle got a bedsheet, painted, "Thanks, friends!" on it, and hung it out their windows which faced the Canadian Embassy, which was at the time also located at Dupont Circle. I remember feeling so tearfully grateful that the Canadians took us in and helped us, at great risk to themselves. I feel all warm and grateful every single time I go past the Canadian Embassy where it is located today, in a place of honour right off the Mall, near the National Gallery of Art. Canada has been a greater friend to the United States than most Americans will ever know.

Re: Oscars. Past my bedtime, but I like the dresses you ladies kindly posted.

OK, Athena, you wanted me to post more ... So this was my rant for the week! ;-D

Blue, that link made me ill. Only read a few comments. I unfortunately have a few family members who would laugh at those comments. My father was a typical 50's/60's racist. Nice to their face but complained anytime a black entertainer came on the Ed Sullivan show.
