Birth year in our signature lines??

The only reason I put the age of dx was to let the sistas know why I am not doin the 5yr.meds.
I fell too much personnel info is not such a great thing.
I also feel if you want to do it that's ok......and if you don't wanna that's ok too. -
grannydukes, where did you put the age of dx? I don't see it.
Also, I think it would be cool to have a separate spot to put the year. I noticed when I put the year under my name, it showed up on all posts of mine, past and present. If someone just adds it to their sig. It only shows from that moment forward.
-
I think obviously it would be optional. And just a question I ask when reading many posts. Just like you said grannydukes to help understand why certain treatments were or weren't used.
-
sara, I like where you put your birth year! It makes things so clear to know we are about the same age ;-).
-
I did not put it on my signature line...I put it here,,,,
If anyone asks Me why I don't take the 5 yr.meds I always say its because of my age. -
grannydukes, ohhhhh, now I get it. You put it in your post :-). Well, I was always thinking that when I read someone's post about anything... sometimes it would be nice to know how old they are (without asking) since age plays such a big role in various treatment choices and even dx'ed situations. It's like some of my posts these days are about a few aches and pains that would be very typical of someone in their late 60s, but not in their late 40's.
-
If you take any of the 5 yr.meds you will get aches and pains.
If I was in my 40s-50 I would hit this thing with all I got.
Just a FYI. -
Grannydukes, thanks so much.
-
Some of us got more than we bargained for with the 5 year meds. Treatment is all about balance. I have the aches and pain and I stopped the hormonal drugs awhile back. I'm thinking the chemo and rads took their toll on me. Here's to hoping my body snaps back sometime soon :-).
-
Rocky I agree! Went hiking yesterday and am so sore today! Haha
-
sara, yes :-)

hi everyone, i was 37, missed diagnosis, diagnosed at 40, 5 yrs tomoxifen, 2 1/2 of femara, back at 51 years. 52 now, and still kicking
-
A lot of you could be my children.
I'm soo sorry for you
bc suks
Find a damn cure/vacine -
susan3, bummer about the misdiagnosis, but glad you are still here!
I put my birth year in my avatar area. I like that it now shows up on all the posts I've ever wrote. The signature line only will show the change that the day you do it and forward. Come on mods... let's try to make the addition :-)
-
Bumping this up as I was just about to start a thread suggesting an 'age at diagnosis' line. It would be very useful. I know we can add it manually, but people don't always think of it when adding all their other info that the profile page asks for. It's only when you've been posting a while that you realise.
-
Testing my new signature...
-
ah crap. I tried to be clever but it only displayed properly on the settings page. Why can't you even start a new line in the signature?!
Edit: I like this but had to add it to my post and don't want to do that every time!
-
michelle, I love the age at BC diagnosis that you added. MODS... still waiting for that line to be added or birth year. Wow, wouldn't that clear up a ton of questions when people are posting? I was recently reading about someone and it turns out she was close to 70. My choices were going to be WAY different then her choices. If we didn't know how old the other one was our suggestions to each other would have been completely different.
-
Members are always welcome to show their age and/or age at diagnosis if they wish to, and in this thread several of you have demonstrated clever ways to share that information.
The biography section also provides plenty of room to add information that, although it doesn't appear with every post, is only a click away. As always, providing personal information is always optional, and should take privacy and security concerns into consideration.

It would certainly help if it was an option along with type, size, stage, etc. People don't think about their age when they first come to this sight. We just fill out the information and it shows up in our sig. lines. It's only later that we realize this piece of information is just as important as how many positive nodes were found. I tried to put in my birth year under birthday in my profile and it won't allow just a year. It wants the month and day too or it won't show that information. Many people don't want their month and day to be displayed, but have no objection to just the year.
Also, I doubt that most ladies are going to go back later to modify their information, but if it's on there to begin with it is an option and then done from the start. Also, if someone wants to remove it later, they can do that.
-
To do so, it's either not prominent enough because you can't even add line breaks or bold/italics to your signatures, or to display it as I did, you have to add it to every post. Users' biographies may only be a click away but it's an inconvenient and unnecessary click. Plus, even when a user tells you their age/age at diagnosis directly in a post it's impossible to remember, especially for those of us with chemo brain!
I don't get what is so difficult.
-
i agree
-
Just caught on to this topic, I added my age at Dx to my signature line. My avatar says Jill47, but who knows if I'm born in 1947 or age 47, very confusing and first time bc dx under age 50 is different in a lot of ways than at age 67. Thanks Rocky and Michelle for the suggestion!
-
It IS a great idea, and we've added it to our list for our tech team! Thanks!
-
Thanks Mods! Looking forward to seeing some birth years!
-
Me too Rocky!
-
Is it gonna be mandatory?
I told everyone im old.isnt that enuf.
too much info on this open site.just my opinion.
if anyone wants to google this stuff it becomes very easy....nah i dont like it at all.
-
It will be totally optional, for sure
-
Nothing is mandatory on this site except having a user name :-). Heck, you don't have to put anything in your sig. line if you don't want to. You don't have to have cancer to be here and you don't even have to know someone with cancer to be here.
However, there are many of us who are more than happy to share our age with the rest of the group. There is a huge difference between a 75 year old and a 35 year old who both have the same dx with perhaps positive nodes and their decision whether to do chemo or not. The discussion and advise with each women will be different because of their age.
-
It's now the end of May and I still can't put just my birth year into my profile and have it show for others. Someone in another thread just asked a very good question and ONCE AGAIN, I had to say if you are young blah blah blah. If you are older, blah blah blah. I even tried to look up her age first and there was tons of info on her profile, but no birth date. Mods????
