    Thanks for all the kind thoughts, folks. It really hasn't sunk in yet what I've been able to accomplish in the past year. My life has been so focused on this endeavor that I feel out of sorts right now. Complete with a stress let-down migraine today. But, I'll get back on track soon!

    I think that pic of Barack is sexy as hell. But I'm thinking the redneck tea baggers are going to be angry that someone else has a firearms photo, and will spin this poorly. I love to target shoot with a .22 or a pellet pistol, but have zero use for a semi-automatic weapon. We did have to buy a shotgun a few years ago after the bear broke into the house a couple times. To scare him away. But I won't shoot that--too loud and too much kick.

    A Navy SEAL who claimed to be the most successful sniper has been shot and killed in a Texas (but of course) gun range. It's like a bad joke. Here goes:

    GLEN ROSE, Texas — A former Navy SEAL and the author of "American Sniper," Chris Kyle, was shot and killed along with another man Saturday at a Texas gun range, a county sheriff has told the Texas news media.

    The sheriff of Erath County, Tommy Bryant, said Mr. Kyle, 38, and a second man were found dead at Rough Creek Lodge’s shooting range west of Glen Rose, according to The Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Stephenville Empire-Tribune. Glen Rose is about 50 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

    Mr. Kyle wrote the best-selling book, "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," detailing his 150-plus kills of insurgents from 1999 to 2009.

    Witnesses told sheriff’s investigators that a gunman opened fire on the men around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, then fled in a pickup truck belonging to one of the victims, according to The Star-Telegram. The newspapers said a 25-year-old man was later taken into custody in Lancaster, southeast of Dallas, and that charges were expected.

    Lancaster police did not immediately return calls for comment.

    I think these wackos have been and always will be with us. We're just more aware of the crazies because of social media. It's good they've been exposed, though, because they can be dangerous. Case in point, that extremist who killed a school bus driver and kidnapped a poor little 5 year old boy. I'm so worried about that child. Cry

    Jennifer Hudson will join the chorus from Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing "America the Beautiful" before Sunday's Super Bowl.

    NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Thursday that the Grammy and Oscar-winning singer would join the Sandy Hook chorus. It features 26 children from the school in Newtown, Conn., where 20 first-graders and six adults were killed in a Dec. 14 shooting rampage.

    Althena...your description has a lot going for it and sounds like today for sure.  Also l like Blue's new word. I do think as well  Belinda that history is going to be far less than kind to those who are seeing so much smoke and mirrors and boogey men from this last 4 yrs. and the 4 yr. period that has just begun.  Perhaps some will get through if they learn to shy and stand back farther from some of the news sources but not enough.  Quite a few left in the dust.

    For you US ladies - I think someone wondered what other countries think of the US. Well, I caught the end of an Australian program on TV yesterday called 'Planet America'. The title suggests that you live on another planet :) The tail end piece I caught was saying that over 1500 (I think) shooting deaths have occurred since the Sandy Hook massacre.

    I've been busy ironing and selecting stuff to pack for our trip to NZ next Saturday. Still lots to do, but at least I've started.

    Please get the facts straight about the "sniper shooting."  They were at the gun range attemtping to help a fellow soldier with PTSD.  No "sniper shooting" to it.

    LOL - Athena, I was wondering who that poster was as I'd never seen her posting here b4, click on avatar & you'll see she's given herself "br" *  on another thread  - makes me laugh when people think they have to come to this thread and post to "prove a point" when the REAL POINT IS, taaa, daaaaa... there weren't enough "good people with a gun" at a SHOOTING RANGE, FGS, to save the sniper, who is called a sniper, because that is what he called himself in the book he wrote about being a sniper..

    ready for notself to discuss karma - the floor is yours, notself....

    BTW, Kam, speaking of other threads, I TOO had a lot of hand swelling ( what I called sausage fingers) on Arimidex and the only thing that helped was NO WHEAT PRODUCTS, no sugar, no dairy - in other words, Gluten free and PAIN FREE, and wearing my rings again, jingle, jingle, jingle..those are my rings making noise

    Tragic shooting.  Wonder if the sounds of gunfire at the shooting range set off flashbacks for the shooter?  I know that some WW2 and Vietnam vets with PTSD had big problems even with fireworks and cars backfiring.  Kind of makes it clear that just having a gun yourself or having more guns around does not make you safer.  A shooting range full of trained gun owners not only could not stop it ... they also could not stop him from getting away.  It certainly sounds like the 2 victims were good guys who meant well and were trying to help.  But maybe taking a victim of PTSD from war to a gun range might be akin to taking somebody with PTSD from breast cancer to a mammogram machine.

    Yes. The tragedy is enormous. And I am sure that Navy SEAL never thought his own country would prove more lethal than Afghanistan or Iraq.
