It's been about a week a half now..Every morning I wake up I get anxious... sad... nervous.... and keep having to take DEEP breathes. If I get my heart rate up it seems to happen quite a bit. I don't know if its b-c I am anxious and my heart rate is causing me to do it... Or the fact that I keep having to take deep breathes are making me anxious.

At night I sleep fine....When I go out with friends and have my mind off it it doesn't seem to happen. But morning, through the day it happens..I am hyper focused on it of course as well.

I am taking xanax to help with it but even wtih the xanax I am having to take a lot ( 50 mgs) and though it seems to calm the anxiety a bit I still hyper focus on my breathe and keep taking super deep breathes.

My question is can lung mets present like this? Would they go way for few hours and then come back?

Jen, I've had that before when I've been in full blown panic mode.  Anxiety attack for sure.  I would be willing to bet it has NOTHING to do with BC.  As long as you are breathing normally most of the time I'm sure it's that.  Mets don't come and go.  I'm glad you have the Xanax. I just got a refill yesterday.  But you may need to see a therapist as well (I'm still looking for a good one myself) to help you how to deal with it when it happens and how to just "deal" in general, which, btw I have a sucky way of doing. Hence the search for my therapist. Mornings are ALWAYS the worst for me too.  I just want to stay in bed.  NOT good!!!!  Get out there Jen and go paddle boarding for me or just ride a wave.  I'm jealous where you are.  Go enjoy paradise!!!

    Love,

    Pure,

I have been waiting to see you post again.  I was worried about your doctors appointment so I am so glad to see you posting again.  Funny how much we worry about the ladies here.

I have had the exact same thing on and off for a couple of YEARS.  Sometimes it seems I just can't yawn, other times it seems like a full blown panic attack, but I agree it is hard to know which came first.  I finally related it to acid reflux and if I take an over the counter (omeprezole currently) I do notice it working.  Today mine is feeling like a lump in my throat so I am back on the pills again, but I have learned not to panic.

I'll be waiting to hear from other ladies, but sometimes I think this is our PTSD.  I have brought up the EXACT same symptoms you have described to my oncologist and she was not concerned.  This was almost 2 years ago now (too long to think something was missed).

Hopefully this helps calm your nerves.  I know where you are at and just know you are not alone.  (((Hugs)))

Thank you...Yeah it's been 11 days now... And I wont lie..I am melting under the stress. I have collasped twice in tears in front of my children.... I have asked my husband not to leave me home alone. I have had some tightness in my chest sometimes. Almost a feeling in my throat other times. Different symtoms depending on the moments but the breathe thing is killing me with fear.  Funny you say that abbout yawning. I was trying to yawn over and over  but couldn't do it..cant explain it-really weird. The one thing I notice is I am hyper focused on the breathing thing. I am able to workout and run etc but I guess the issue is how can I still be having an issue even after taking xanax...Yesterday I went out to eat with friends and for 3 hours I felt great-nothing-no issues at all.The minnute they left.... I had to take a deep breathe again...I hate this... I just can't deal with anything else anymore..... This is so hard...

FYi my doc just perscribed a higher dose of xanax and anti depressant. He said it was classic signs of anxiety/panic disorder. But if that is all it is then why wont the xanax take the breathing thing away.

I had something like that and after CT scans showed zero mets or any other reason, the docs all tried to pat me on the head and tell me it was nerves. I got annoyed and went googling. First I found that B12 deficiency can do this. Took B12, no real improvement. Then I started some magnesium for a different reason and in a few weeks the breathing problems were gone. Googled, and sure enough, magnesium defiency can give you asthma symptoms.

Apparently it is pretty common for cancer patients to be low on magnesium. I take 100mg a day, so nothing dramatic.

Pure, so glad your doc assured you it's NOT lung mets and gave you some meds to help you. Maybe seeing someone trained to help you work through the anxiety would be wonderful for you!! They will give you tools to ease the anxiety and the symtoms you are having. My daughter went through a trama and counseling gave her the tools to use to overcome fears and anxiety.

    Hi Pure,

I have panic attacks and anxiety where it feels like I can't get enough O2. It's horrible. When I start to get that way, I actually have to remind myself to breathe deeply. I tend to breathe shallowly and hyperventilate, which then feels like I'm having lung issues.  And, I'm another xanax girl and in therapy since dx.

It's pretty revealing that you don't have these issues when you are sound asleep or involved in other things. If you focus on your finger throbbing, by God it will throb. When you put all your attention on your breathing, something is going to come up. However, when you take your attention off your breathing, things simmer down. This says to me anxiety.  Before my dx I had all these same aches and pains and never paid a bit of attention. Now I'm hypervigilant and can't tell which ache is significant. That for me is so difficult to deal with. It makes me cRaZy!!

I think all the scares you have had recently are making you focus on anything that might be a possible symptom of mets.  This might sound silly, but your determination and focus you have demonstrated in your life might be making it worse. I don't think the xanax will necessarily work the same for everyone.

I've found that I can recreate any symptom in my body if I start thinking about it.When I first was dxed, if I was thinking about mets my ribs hurt.

I have also had panic attacks and I know how scary they can be.  I was told one of the best remedies is to go outside and start moving. I know that might be difficult with young children but it might be worth a try.

Pure, I have the same problem with breathing and ativan is what helps me. When its really bad I actually make my ribs sore trying to get a deep breath. Its an awful feeling and the fact that I know its anxiety and not some kind of lung dz doesn't seem to help. It also comes at seemingly random times when I don't think I'm feeling anxious at all. I yawn and sigh a lot when this happens. If you exhale really hard, like push the air out, that will maybe let you get a deep breath. Works for me. It feels like the breath goes halfway down and just stops and won't go any deeper into the lungs. Sometimes get an irregulat heartbeat from it too. Just wanted to reassure you not to think the worst about mets. Also maybe the xanax isn't the right one for you. I don't know how it compares to ativan or if its similar. I only take 1 mg, usually once a day, sometimes twice, sometimes none, and sometimes I will take a half because it makes me fall asleep at my desk.
