Cool! We actually have a celebrity to wear the jacket. Everybody set their VCR's to catch Sphynx live on TV!

I'd go with you on Friday, but I'm already taking seven vacation days this month, plus 3 doctor appts. I have an understanding boss, but even he has his limits!

Okay I'm going to take a chance and post this here....
I made these for my race signs.
Nancy wants a memory one made for her.

Anyone else want one or both made for themselves? I'll personalize them with any name or saying. Only thing I'd need to know by Thursday evening.

Where are we meeting? How will we recognize each other? I signed up to walk 1only 1 mile. Now my knees are so painful that I don't know if I can do that. Is the starting time 8:00 a.m.? When is the finish? Obviously, I am out of the loop completely. I didn't even get any donors. I was afraid to ask for help for something that is my thing, not theirs, after my daughter ignored a hint that any amount would be okay. Are we all wearing pink shirts? Sorry to be such a ditz, but the end of the school year coupled with making surgery arrangements for my firrst day off (removal of port at last, hernia repair, removal of exdpander & a gel implant all at once) that I can't seem to keep anything straight.

Ann - We're meeting at the Survivor Tent. Sphynx has a sign with Breastcancer.org on it.

Here is a link to the different maps: http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/maps.html

I would imagine everyone will have their cell phones with them if you don't see us. Did you get the email with the numbers?

I don't know that I'll be able to walk the whole mile, either. I may call tomorrow and see if there's still room on the trolley. And don't worry at all about donations.

I believe we're meeting at (gulp) 7:00 am.

Kats - Great job on the stickers! It'll be good advertising for the site. Who knows, maybe we'll see some new people on the boards because of it.

Would you mind doing a couple for me? A celebration one, same as Nancy's (above). And a memory one with Ruth and Rose and then the same as yours at the bottom (all who have lost the battle part), if you don't mind my copying.

    Thanks!

Ann, are you all set? Thanks for getting to her Irene, I go to bed really early. I have your packet Ann, and it has your pink t-shirt in it along with your race number. Meet us early enough for you to find a place to put it on. I haven't done any fundraising but look at these guys. They make us all look good. So good that they should be on TV!

Hi Doreen - Welcome to our site for loads of laughs. Didn't kats do a great job on the signs? Want to be on TV?

Have any of you ever read the "dying of shame" post? I don't do well in front of large groups of people. Geez, I cannot even talk in front of small groups.

I'm one of those people who will start thinking about doing or saying something totally inappropriate for the occasion. You don't want me mooning or anything do you?

When is the live spot...on Friday? If so, I will go with you Nancy and Irene to support you! Let me know. Can you post the crazy jacket website again?

By the way...congratulations on the negative mammogram Nancy. And many thanks to Mary for the signs. And great job on the fundraising. You ladies rock!

No, Not-Me, YOU will be on TV on Saturday! Are you volunteering to give Kim Adams the crazy jacket? http://www.thiscrazyjacket.com She will be Live in front of Comerica Park where the race is and also doing the closing ceremony. All that starts at 8:00 a.m.

I have your packets also, don't forget! You need to meet us early enought to put them on.

Honestly, there is such a huge crowd that unless we go up to Kim or she asks for us, I don't know how we will do this. Another thing I should mention is that they have all the survivors go up on the stage. I think my friends go late to skip this. I'm not gonna do it! It becomes very emotional. Not only do I not like being on camera, I do not want to be on camera blubbering with snot running down my face.

On Friday, Jo and the Willie Dunns will be playing in the Survivor Room in Southfield at the pre-expo. I received another email from John, a band member about their schedule. He thought it was a private fundraiser and didn't realize I would be able to go there...
    Quote:

    Hi Nancy,

I found out where we'll be:

    Expo, Southfield Pavillion
26000 Evergreen at Civic Center Drive,
    in the city's Municipal Complex
it's just north of 10 Mile Rd

I'm not sure of the room number- but you can probably find it. We would love you to come up and say hi. We'd also be happy pose for some photos.
We are scheduled to play from 3 to 5. So we'll probably take a break somewhere between 3:45 and 4 for 15 minutes, then at 5 we're done. Looking forward to seeing you there.

    John

I hope to be there starting around 3:00 p.m. and get home to get my winks or I'll be taking the trolley on Saturday. Sure would love company but I'll do it alone if I hafta.

    Race day schedule....
    Quote:

What is the schedule for Race day?

    * Volunteers begin arriving around 5 am
    * Packet Pickup and Registration (individuals) opens at 7 am and closes at 8:45 am
    * Survivor Café (refreshments breakfast for survivors and invited sponsors and Race Grant Program Leaders) opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 9 am. The Café is th set up for post-Race massages, courtesy of Irene's Myomassology Institute.
    * Shop for the Cure®, Friends for the Cure®, Stuff Check, Children's Area, and Sponsor Booths open at 7 am.
    * Opening Ceremonies, honoring breast cancer survivors and celebrating the lives of lost loved ones, begin at 8 am.
    * Race events (5K Run, 5K Walk and One Mile Walk) begin at 9 am
    * The Awards Ceremony begins at approximately 10:30 am
    * Following the Race, use your free beverage coupon and visit the Detroit Festival of the Arts. "Make a day of it and make a difference!" Shuttles are available to take you from your Race parking spot to the Festival and back. Check the Festival website for more information: www.detroitfestival.com

I did not know that the Survivor Cafe closes at 9:00 when the race starts. That means, if you are not walking or taking the trolley, you cannot sit in their chairs and wait. Does anyone think we need to bring chairs? I have some of those foldup cloth things but cannot carry them too far.

Not Me - Forgive me for being dense, but who else wants to do what?

I just signed up for the trolley. I'm assuming the podiatrist is going to tell me the same thing my PCP told me about walking even a mile.

If anyone one would like to join me, the number is 248-351-1861. The person I spoke to said she would forward my name to the correct person and if there was a problem, they'd call me, but to assume there's room. She was very nice (the first nice person I've spoken to all day!).

Nancy - Do you know if the trolley rides along side everyone? I'm hoping there's a bright side to this and I'll at least be able to take some photos if we pass you guys.

Nancy-Is there a place to drop off stuff to be held onto until after the race? Sometimes these events have a coat room check type of system.

About the trolley. I don't remember even seeing it before so I'm not sure! You would think it would follow the same route because that is where the entertainment is. Maybe it leaves earlier and people walk behind it. I was so far behind the crowd, I may have missed it.

About stuff check - Yes, they have UPS volunteers who will hold your stuff. I'm planning on doing that if we get the banner. It is really big and heavy. I'm not sure what they hold it in though.

Geez, just took me 10 minutes just to find this and I still don't know where it is!
    Quote:

Be sure to stop at STUFF CHECK, sponsored by UPS, and leave anything you don’t want to carry with you along the race route. Our happy, dedicated volunteers will hold your things in their safe keeping until after the Race!

I am wearing a small knapsack--bright red Cancer Fighers logo--so I can have my stuff with me. A fanny pack would work, or.....

    Hi All:
This may be lost in the tangle of all of the posts right now but just wanted you to know I will be looking for all of you at the Survivor's Tent before the race begins. I'm with a group of my relatives who have been asking me for years to walk with them - and they walked for me last year, so had to do it. However, next year is another story - I hope to do it with you guys!!!
    Blessings,
    Pat

    Hello,

Well, the cast is back on my foot. Sigh. The podiatrist said (after giving me that why didn't you come to me in the first place look) that he would've left the original cast on for 4-6 weeks instead of 3.

I'll have it on for a week, then get it off next Thursday. I'm leaving for NYC on Friday, or it'd probably stay on another week or so.

So, I'll be the one with the purple cast on Saturday.

Pat - looking forward to meeting you!

Jan 'the racelady' sent me this info on parking:
    Quote:

    http://www.detroitlions.com/photos/FordFieldParking_06.pdf
This link shows you parking around Ford Field and Comerica Park. The lots immediately surrounding the ball park are being used for the event - Purple Lots 1,2 and 3, and Blue Lot 6 right next to Comerica Park (maybe more, but I don't thing so). But, you can see there are many surrounding the area - if you choose an Olympia parking lot you will get a decent discount that day, a courtesy to the Race. Another choice is to use the People Mover and park away from the event. You can park near Cobo Hall or the Renaissance Center and use the People Mover. You'll be able to get off at a couple of People Mover exits and walk over to Comerica Park (Red Exits G & H).

Sorry to hear about getting the cast back. On the plus side, you'll be easy to spot.

We're leaving for Detroit tomorrow morning.
    See you Saturday.

There are maps of the area in the booklet in the packs and it looks like the Stuff Check is in/by the sponsor tent.

    Have a safe trip, Kats!

    Hi Ladies,
I feel like I've been MIA. I've been so busy I can't even get to the computer. I didn't get the email with cell phone #'s, and would like a few in case I get everyone lost. What time is everyone meeting? Will Nancy be doing a dance as we cross the finish line?
