First mom diagnosed with IIB. Now Mom's BELOVED sister at IIIc
I need some insights. I believe BC is just catching up on my family. My mom was diagnosed in August. Did good at 75 and finished her Rads. She did not need chemo.
Now my aunt, who with my mom and me all thought the journey is diagnosed with BC but at a higher stage of IIIc. I feel so bad for her. She was all along the for mom and me and was not aware that she also had the same . Only once Mom was well, did she go for Mammo and again here I'm in less than 6 months facing the same news but with more complication.
I need some advise ladies, aunt is 72 And diabetic with hypertension. Can she get through Chemo? Just so concern of the effects of chemo on a 72 year old with complications.
She has done her Mastectomy and recovered well.
Help me with some insights..,,,,,

No insights about the chemo and your aunt, but I just want to say I'm so sorry you're dealing with this and praying for a great outcome for both of them.

hi dear sorry to hear this. I too have had way too much BC inMy family. Grandmothr ( moms mom) Mom, mom's only sister, and then me at Stage IIC.
I am also a Oncology nurse and so I know it ony too well.
The good thing is that typically BC cells grow quite slowly ih the elderly. Testing is always recomnended prior to systemic chemo that affect heart function. Also there is alot of positive ne txs coming along. My mom was dxed with her recurrence at age 75, she breezed through her chemo despite quite a few other med issues.
In any event. I know it's scary but you'll al get through it.
Take one day at a time and come to the boards often. thehelp ladies here are well versed and can help

Dear Ikc, Thanks. God Bless you. I have PM you.
Dear Roses, hugs and thanks.
Its a comfort to read this especially when the 1st thing ypu wake up in the morning and you have to keep strong and give all the encouragement to the ones you love who is going thru this journey.
Gals, anymore stories of elderly women with chemo is most welcome? -
LoveUMom
I don't know anything about chemo in elderly, but I'm concerned about you. Have you considered BRCA testing for yourself? Breast cancer is a vicious enemy. If I were BRCA positive, I would seriously consider prophylactic treatments

Thanks elizabeth.
I will ask the oncologist here, in Malaysia.
Not sure, but I'm very confident that my family is caring some sort of the gene. In less than 8 years, 4 diagnosed. My mum and aunt within span on 5 months.
Gosh, god help me. -
LoveUmom,
If this helps ease your mind, with respect to yourself, the BRCA 1 and 2 genes actually only occur in a very small percentage of women who get or are likely to get bc. Also the fact that your mother and aunt were dx'ed at well over age 40, would make it even less likely that the bc is BRCA related. Still, if your doctors feel, you are at risk, the test is a blood sample that is sent to Myriad Genetics (in Utah, they hold the patent). I am so sorry that your family is going through this.
