Benny.....you seem to have some very specific "ingredient" issues along with your commitment to be vegetarian. Can you access a dietician through your onco people?
websister, hope the chemo went ok for you today.
-
Yeh Carla, hair cut like Meg Ryans, hot hot hot
Edi, lets just say i don't like spiders no matter where they are or country...lol.....I remember when I just moved into our new house 4 years ago...I called my DH to come home from the pub down the road because there was a massive spider in the kitchen...well I didn't leave its site, after a whole can of spray to kill it, and me sliding everywhere from the spray, this big ugly thing still wanted to try and fight me to get up and walk....I can't bring myself to squashing them so DH was home and killed it, he did slip on his backside though, didn't warn him that all that shine was no Mr Sheen ... it was funnny though thinking back at it.......lol....(so after that I did end up going to the pub with him, wasn't staying home with any more spiders...blah and the vodka went down nicely )!!
Benny hope you are ok, I get a little dizzy too if I get up too quick perhaps thats what happened when you were kneeling that or low blood pressure at the time.
We have hydralite here, we have it when we get the runs and need to boost us up with electrolytes.
Hope the apple juice works for you , don't worry about the supper dishes, theres tomorrow morning for that, go take a nap and let that codeine do its thing for you girl.
Websister , you truely are a wealth of information.....
Liefie, welcome back from your South African trip.......Happy New year to you too

Its 41 degrees here indoors with the aircon on....too bloody hot!.... popped out to the bakery for some nice yummy fresh rolls....(was so tempted to get a cake but thought, no no, these hips do not need a cake today...lol so bread rolls it was and home to yummy tuna salad rolls).
Off to the pool later on...must say, Day 3 and I feel oh sooooo much better than the Taxotere, girls.....its like I haven't had any chemo on Wednesday...so long as it's doing its thang and I feel like this I'm happy.......(though it is a cumalitive SE with fatigue so I'm not going to get too excited, but I can for now...lol)
Hope everyone is having a lovely day / night / evening/morning where ever you are.......xx
-
Traii - so glad the CMF seems better so far than the Taxotere, love your spider story.
Benny - I was talking with my friend from Saskatchewan yesterday morning, we both are on anti-reflux meds that have been increased to twice daily due to effects of chemo but we still take something in between When we need it. I use Tums, she uses Maalox.
There are some classes regarding nutrition during chemo and I noticed one especially for nutrition for breast cancer in the winter sessions at TBCC, I got a pamphlet today while there. We can also access a dietitian for a private consultation.
Have a bit of a headache from the Herceptin this evening so going to close now, one down, 13 to go
. -
Morning ( Here ) sisters,
Benny, sorry you are still sore hope it does improve today. Nihahi is right you must be sensible, I have too learnt a lot from websisters list. Think my " ring of fire " may also be a bit similar to what you have ie. inflammation of tissues. It is burning from tummy right through to nether regions now and not running to loo. Going to get a few things from the list today and cut back on coffee etc.
Did you try the baked egg custard ? It couldn't be softer or more slippery to swallow. I put touch of sweetner in as I can't have sugar. You are then getting milk and eggs at least.Just add 2 eggs to half a pint of warm milk, add sweetner and vanilla essence if you have it. pop into buttered dish. place dish in tray of water and bake for 1-1 1/2 hrs in oven on no 1. so easy and I am going to make one for my tea tonight as this burning is travelling up to middle of my chest right now.
I also love a ripe banana mashed with a fork and mixed with evaporated milk. Used this on babies when they were starting to eat and they still adore it.
Glad LGFB was good so looking forward to having one of these, Benny must have thought you were a walking picnic of cream when you got into bed lol.
If you are googling, look up story of chief baker of the TITANIC.his story is quite amazing .
Just concentrate on getting energy levels up, the rest will follow. Hope Radiologist went ok. xCarla, getting hair cut best thing you can do, if it gets very sparse I found getting it buzzed right off made me look and feel even more in control.Wig fits better and when it grows back will be nice and even.
Don't fret too much about constipation, it might not happen. I only had it once and lots of fluids and fruit sorted it. I am also hitting the activia today.xLiefie, how lovely to have you back safe and sound. How did the wedding go and your playing ? x
Bevlee, picture great you look super. You are right, grandkids best thing since sliced bread.Got my GD this afternoon my best medicine ever.x
Nihahi, how did recon discussion go ? x
Websister, thanks again for your great advice that we can all dip into for our own symptoms. Hope Mum still improving and Herceptin went ok. x
Sun is shining here, bit scarey really lol.
going to soak in baking soda bath as I have the worse itch ever in a very embarassing place.TMI but only you lot will understand. xx
-

It is shoulder length with bangs ,glossy and such a lovely colour. If I can ever find how to put a pic on here will show you. Rest today if you can. :-) X
-
Edi-
Wish i could rest, but no rest for the weary. DD of to school, getting DS off to school and then off to work. But I also think that Is why I feel good. I have no choice to keep moving. Did u have a treatment this week, sorry I can't remember.
Laters-
Love that line
-
@ Dakota, so glad you feel good hun after your first taxol...kids do keep us on our feet, I'd be lost with out my little one...thats what keeps me going too and I think thats why I feel so good....lol
@ Edi, hope you had a nice bath and are refreshed ready for your day. Hope that 'itch' of yours has disappeared !
@ Websister, hope you are sleeping off that darn headache lovey.
@ Benny, hope you have had your codeine and resting so you can go see your big plush tomorrow after putting on all that gorgeous make up from LGFB ... lol
Carlads, Bevlee and all other sisters, hope you have a great day . I'm off to bed shortly, gotta get my much needed beauty sleep in this heat, still a scorching 37 degrees here at midnight

-
Bennymuffin....I just lurk on this site as you ladies are amazing and funny and so brave. You asked about probiotics (I used to be a registered dietitian) the best, in my opinion, is Keffir.....this, you can get at your health food store, either low fat or regular, and I buy the organic one. You can add it to cereal, soups, smoothies, anywhere really.
It tastes a bit like yoghurt, and I personally love it and take it everyday. Hope this helps. -
scottiee, thank you for lurking and welcome, glad you like us and please join in any time all input so much appreciated by us all. x
Dakota, sorry you can't rest much but as you say may be a good thing as keeps you going. Try and pamper yourself after work when kids in bed you deserve it My next one on Tuesday :-( last one of this regime.yay ! Then three weeks later same one as Traii, hope I cope as well as she is.x
Traii, no bed socks for you then ? 37 deg at midnight omg ! Hope you have a lovely sleep, are you still doing ok ? The itch has gone baking soda rocks !!
Just realised must have missed some posts, the spider story PMSL !You are a scream. . can't believe he came home to get spider for you, how lovely is your DH.xThis is a general question that one of you might have an answer for. Before all this my finger nails were sooo weak and would split and peel all the time. Now for the first time in years mine are hard and actually growing past the end of my fingers !! As most things itch or fall off was wondering if anybody else has had similar experience ?
Websister, hope headache has lifted. Last part of journey in sight x
Laters Edi xx
-
Scottie - I wondered if that was you lurking around here
. Welcome, glad to have you and to know that you are a dietitian.Scouser - hope the baking soda bath was helpful and that you are enjoying your time with your granddaughter. Looking forward to seeing a picture of that sassy new wig.Re: general question about nails - mine also are hard and seem to be growing faster than usual, they are discolored and I think I will lose the one on the ring finger right hand but otherwise thinking the extra protein might be helping with nail strength?
Traii - that is hot! Hope you are able to be comfortable in the heat with minimal side effects from CMF
Dakota - you continue to amaze me! Glad you didn't have reaction to Taxol, hope the weekend treats you well.
Saw Mom yesterday before I went for the Herceptin. She is doing good, but somewhat lonely - mornings have physio but afternoons and evenings drag for her, she is reading up a storm. I curled her hair which made her feel better so maybe she will go out to the common area and visit a bit more with the other residents.
My head feels a bit stuffed up like a head cold but tolerable, hear that can be a side effect of herceptin. So far unable to distinguish any new symptoms, I was still having muscle aches and joint pain prior to infusion so nothing new there. Can't complain.Weather is wonderful here again today.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend with minimal side effects.

-
Currently sitting with ice pack on shoulders, as physio tried 5 different things yesterday so my old body is pretty annoyed with me at the moment. But it is better than before he got at me. I bet the Australia contingent would like to trade places with me (re: ice packs)!
Benny, I really, really, really hope to hear you have followed up on websisters info about a dietician consult!!!!!!!!!
Edi, recon appointment isn't until Jan 23. I'll certainly update you guys after the consult.
Hi to everyone, keep on, you all are doing great!
-
Ok woke up at 5am on a Saturday!!!! been pacing the house for half hour as I got hot...drank 2 glasses of water so yhe peeing doesnt end!!!
Ohh ice packs Nihahi.....they sound gooooood......lol. hope they are working for you on your shoulders!
Edi...Dh can be a DH sometimes..not all the time but that day he was my saviour!!
Websister, poor mum being bored...lets hope by you pampering her will bring her out for a chat with the other residents
Hope everyone has a minimal SEs weekend
-
ok Traii, here goes....mental imaging. Ice packs on both shoulders. Now out of ice packs so bag of frozen peas slowy defrosting on chest, to try to calm down zinging from capsular contraction. Looking out of window at (although it is sunny and beautiful temps today) snow on the ground, and snow-capped mountains in the distance.
There, feeling any cooler?

-
Ohhh Nihahi...im picturing that oh and me running in that snow, rolling in that snow...ohhh how much cooler I am already
I might just be able to sleep now.....why do boys sleep through anything and me.....up at the sound of a pin dropping....arghhh they are snoring and I am on my phone chatting away.. lol -
Hi everyone,
Benny I hope you are feeling better.
I was watching the news and wanted to say to all our down under girls, that heat and fires you are experiencing in Australia sounds pretty brutal. Stay cool and safe!....I have a few feet of snow in my yard I wish I could send down, lol..
Bevlee congrats on the baby news, grand babies are so special. I have 8 ranging in age from 4 year old twins girls to our 16 year old grandson.....that's pretty good considering I am 29 years old, still....
Carlads I bet the hair looks cute, hope you get minimal SE from your chemo.
Websister I hope your feeling better, so nice that you can spend time with your mom, I sure miss mine.
Dakota your kids sound like they keep you hopping, they are so special.
Edi I would love to see your sassy wig, I wish I could figure out how to put pics up. If you every get it let me know. Hope the itch is gone!
Liefie welcome back
I had my 2/16 rads today, it isn't bad at all so far and the ladies have been very nice. I am hoping my skin holds up but being fair makes me nervous. As a kid I would burn, fair skin and red hair. The RO told me that skin color doesn't really make a difference that even dark skinned people can have bad reactions and fair skinned be fine. We will just have to see.
All the other sisters, have a super Weekend -
Websister, itch has subsided thanks ,will head for another soak in a minute. Drank club soda for burning in chest and tummy it, really soothed. Didn't realise it contained bi carb until I googled it, gosh I love that stuff. Swallow it and sit in it lol. Thanks for reply on nails, sorry you are losing one, my ED was amazed at mine yesterday when she came to pick up GD they feel really hard. GD and I were watching TV when she informed me that my prickles were growing too. ( hair ):-)
Mum sounds as if she is coming along well, once she joins in with the others she will be much better.
Hope se's from herceptin don't get any worse.
Have you heard anything from Benny ? Hope she is just out having fun and not still unwell.xTraii, The heat where you are is hard to imagine. You are right about the male of our species, they sleep through anything.
Friend of ours is in Tasmania and the fires there look horrendous, we are a bit worried as he hasn't posted on f/b for a few days
Have you fires anywhere in Aus ?Nature is unfair we have more water than we know what to do with here. In GD's school playground there are many beautiful old trees, they are worried they may fall due to ground being so soft. Think they may have to be cut down.
how are se's, minimal still I hope. xNihahi, hope ice packs worked, your part of the world sounds beautiful.Bet you are excited about recon. x
Bearcub, you sound really well, ED is computer whizz and she has said she will come around one night and help, re pics, so will pass on any info to you.
I have 25 rads to come april/may time, have many friends who have had them and no one has suffered any discomfort. Think they are better at doing them now than years ago. xLuvmy, Finally made the buttermilk potatoes last night, they were fantastic !! DH loved them and he is a fussy sod. They will be a regular meal now thanks. x
Love to the rest of my sisters, Edi x
-
Ok ladies, Club Soda, is that the fizzy lemon drink you are talking about ?
Hi Scottiee1 welcome. Thanks for lurking
can you please tell me what Keffir is as a priobiotic ? I take 'inner health plus' in tablet form 'sometimes' and was wondering I have heard of Keffir before but not sure if they have it everywhere or is it just in the USA ?Edi, my nails were growing at the start real fast, like they were on their own kind of steriods...lol, now I have my left pointer finger looks like its going to come off...onc seems to think its just the new one pushing its way through, but if you ask me, it feels like when my acrylic nails were coming off....so hmmm... I'm hoping it doesn't but if it does well, so be it

The fires are terrible Edi, so many houses burnt down in Tasmania this week.....I'm sure your friend hasn't posted on FB because they may not have any power....prayers for your friends Edi. We had very bad bush fires here back in 2009 luckily they were across the highway and didn't make it over to this side where I live..many lives lost that weekend, one we can never forget...they call it Black Saturday!
SE's still minimal thank goodness....just when I take the C part of CMF in oral form about 1hour after and lasts for a couple of hours I may get a little light headed and nauseated but nothing to go crazy over, haven't touched my nausea meds and still managed to get out to do the shopping but had hubby with me today as I gave mum the 'weekend off' and she has taken her new car off for a drive with my dad to a place called Albury....(3 hours away) to play the pokies....lol.....for a couple of days......they deserve it

Other than that Edi, you are going to find CMF totally different and I hope that you too won't have any SE's. Hair feels prickly too......hopefully it comes back earlier than expected, that would be a nice b'day pressie for me in March to have my hair back.
Nihahi / Bearcub, Going to need that snow of yours on Monday, its going to be back up to 38degrees here in Melbourne !!
Bevlee, how are you going in the heat hun ?? No SE's from chemo ??
Dakota, How you going still no SE's I hope from the Taxol no muscle aches / pains ??
Websister, hope your head is ok now and not giving you any grief.
Hope all you ladies have a wonderful Saturday
-
Traii-
Thanks for asking. It's weird today my hands feel very tight and sore. That also burned a little bit? Is that neuropathy. They told me to expect muscle aches??? -
Trail, club soda is clear and very fizzy. It would be like bubbly water or seltzer water ... In canada it is sold where all the "pops" are sold ... Coke, Pepsi, etc.
-
Sorry, am running behind this morning and am again behind in my reading/writing. I am taking a friend out to meet Diamond this morning and am running late. I too would love to hear more on the keffir item? I did buy some probiotic yogurt and had some last night.... so far so good. Nihahi, yes, I plan on seeing a nutritional expert! Good idea!
I can also post instructions on how to load pictures on here when I get home tonight. It's very simple but you do need to upload your pictures to an outside image host like Photobucket first (free). At least that's how I do it.
Okay, must run! Be back later. I hope everyone has a great day. ♥
-
Traii< club soda is the american version of soda water as we poms know it. we have a soda stream machine, ( years old ) just puts the fizz in plain water but it seems it has some bi carb, ( baking soda ) in it. Seems to take the burn out the old tubes lol.
Hope you are right about no f/b because of power cut only. Will keep you posted.
Thanks for heads up on treatment, forwarned is forearmed. Lovely that hair coming back :-)
As for nails ,my Reiki patient day before yesterday said she grew a complete new set of nails which pushed off the old ones after being on chemo. Hers are gorgeous and like concrete, I thought they were acrylic they were so long and beautiful.
Black Saturday sounds horrendous !!
Just finished a birthday cake for a 16 year old, white with black feathers in the middle. Cosmetics made of fondant icing all in black cases with diamante on everything. They don't want much these days do they ?
GD needs cake for her 6th birthday later this month. She wants the head of her favourite pony on it, with carrots lol.
Hope your mum and dad have fun,and you have a nice weekend.x -
Edi I would love to see a pic of that cake, if you get pics loaded. My GD also turns 6 later this month, on the 23rd. I am pretty sure it will be a Dairy Queen ice cream cake...kids love those even when it's freezing outside.
-
Edi - glad to hear the club soda is helping, looking forward to the picture
Traii - sending more of our snow and cooler temperatures your way, hope you are getting your sleep
Dakota - taxol can cause you to retain fluid, that may be causing the tight feeling in your hands, I think one of the reasons the muscle may ache is also due to fluid retention but I could be wrong there. Peripheral neuropathy is usually numbness and tingling in the fingers or toes, but can also be experienced as burning or pain. If the motor nerves are impacted it can cause balance problems or muscle weakness or cramping.
Benny/Edi - kefir is kind of like yogurt or buttermilk - here is a link to some information on probiotics and kefir -
http://www.naturalnews.com/024477_kefir_bacteria_probiotics.html
Benny - glad you are getting out and enjoying this milder weather we are having, so glad the side effects are easing and you are getting some quality days prior to next chemo
Bearcub - happy to hear of your radiation experience so far, will find out for sure if it's for me on the 14th
I'm doing OK post Herceptin - feel like I have a head cold, maybe it's not the Herceptin
-
I know how you are feeling. I am 52, healthy, never smoked and a routine mamo picked up a 3.2cm enlarged node on the right side. I had a fine needle biopsy, which showed cancerous cells, then ultrasound, MRI of breasts, CT scan AND CT-PET scan and on all tests, my breast and my other organs came back clear so diagnosis is cancer of unknown origin which is even harder to deal with as they can't kill it if they don't know where it's coming from. There are cancerous cells in the node which has now been surgically removed and I have so say that the op itself was not too bad - had no pain relief after op and scar not very big.On the PET scan, it did some some uptake in the right arm nodes so now the surgeon wants to take out nodes from the right and send over for testing. This is a bigger op and i am scared I can't use my arm to its full extend. I play tennis (or did) and am always luggin heavy shopping around.THey also said that I was HER-2+, so both ONC and Specialist believe it points to a breast cancer that cannot be found (i.e it could be very microscopic). Not really sure what HER2 is but it doesn't sound good. I want to have my HER2 assessment redone as a second opionion and have to decide whether to have all the nodes removed or wait and see what happens. Be interesting to hear if there is anyone else like me out there. i.e. cancer in node (s) but not in breast (and it's not lymphona, sarcoma or melanoma).
-
Hi MSSWISS - welcome
If you click on my blog link I just did a post on HER2 + and a brief explanation of it and of the drug they use on HER2 + breast cancer, not too involved but hopefully gives a good idea of what it's all about
If you go to this address -
http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/diagnosis/staging
You will see that stages 1, 2 and 3 all identify incidences where no tumor is found but there are cancer cells in the lymph nodes
Re: node removal - I understand your concern, I had 27 nodes removed, my right arm is still not completely comfortable. I know I am still fairly early but so far so good as far as movement, I work out and do stretches for the arm, I don't tend to limit my lifting too much on that side, basically because I forget. No signs of lymph edema so far.
Lots of decisions and things to think about for you right now. Sending hugs -
For those of you taking Taxol or other chemo that causes neuropathy you can take powdered L-glutamine just in water not saying it tastes great but not bad either just grainy and chalky but as always check with your oncologist but I took it and never got any of the pins&needles others got who did not take it. It will not interfere with chemo efficacy but as I said run it past your Dr
-
Put your boots on Lesleyanne67.....we're going snowshoeing again today! I've been up since 6 am popping tylenol and sitting with icepacks on the shoulders so we can do this. Supposed to be a mild day, so the nose should be ok too. I'll be sending some cool mountain air to all you Aussies, also.
Edi, I have had some incredible experiences with Reiki, and totally believe in it. I would like to pursue getting training for at least Reiki 1 some day. This week I am starting a Qigong class, really looking forward to it, as my usual yoga has been on hold because of these ****shoulders.
Carla....how are you doing? I've been thinking of you lots this week, and sending hugs.
Mss....boy have you found the right group of ladies. Heroes, one and all.
-
Nihahi, I have practised Reiki for about 10 years now. Love everything about it. I used to live next door to a girl who said it beat anything drugs wise she had ever taken !( She was once a backing singer for a famous star. )lol.
I am Reiki two and that took me about a year to attain. May look into becoming a Master one day.
You do receive back as much as you give during a treatment and have seen people almost float off the treatment bed.
Hope you do it one day.
Hope your shoulders easing and you took Lesley snowshoeing.Going to google Quigong. I have dvd of tai chi to try so must get going on that. Nice and gentle. :-) xWebsister, club soda really helping, thank you. Enjoying your blog too by the way. x
Bearcub, Ice cream cake sounds absolutely gorgeous. Sure my GD would prefer one of those.Dairy Queen hasn't reached here yet but think I went to one when we were in Dubai visiting my cousin who works there.x
Msswiss, welcome and hope you will get the answers you need. x
Just been with GD for her horse riding lesson. Instead of a pony they put her on a smallish horse. GD is tiny and we call her" Fairy " she wasn't bothered at all and was cantering with no reins ! Mum and Nan were nervous wrecks, trainer said she was excellent. She is having her birthday party there with gang of little girls all riding along with her. Gone are the days of sandwiches jelly and cakes in the front room.
Going for bloods tomorrow for 4th session Tuesday. Hope Neu shot worked again this time.
Edi X
