Alyson - you had me laughing, you Kiwi. So this must mean we capitalize Kiwi, versus not, but for kiwifruit, lowercase, unless the fruit is named after you Kiwis? Then it would be Kiwifruit, but then wouldn't I be calling you a fruit?
(And over here, you don't want to be called a "fruit.")
-
Kiwifruit are actually chinese gooseberries
http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/the-chinese-gooseberry-becomes-the-kiwifruit
I will always think of them by their real name.

Here is Christie! Wonderful:
-
It's funny - I lived in NZ for the first 10 years of my life. My mother is an Australian and she persuaded my father to move here. I had no choice in the matter. I didn't return for 39 years and now I can't get enough of it. I cry when I land and I cry when I leave. I am able to get Aust citizenship because of my mother and my long term residence here (50 years) BUT I am fiercely proud to be a New Zealander and will never seek Aust citizenship. I do hope we move there to retire.

Kam we call someone who is a bit sill a fruit cake but it is meant nicely. Yes and we do put kiwifruit on pavlovas. I had an image of a kiwi(bird) sliced through like a kiwifruit but can't find it will keep looking.
DS and future DiL arrived for lunch. The DS got into the roof to get down all his boxes which have been stored there for five years. Some went back up because they don't have room at their place. Dirt and dust everywhere now. I suppose I can be pleased that some stuff has gone. LOL

Let's see if this works:

Finally! My niece (one sister's lab, Emilia, in a favorite lab position)

Athena....love the dog position picture and also thanks for the link. I think I have it on Addicting Info....but haven't gone into that part of my computer yet.....have several over there to read and glad to get through this one. One wonders.....sounded like the Speaker would maintain......now not sounding nearly as good.
Long day at work today so already looking forward to the week-end in two days. Wonder why week-ends go so much faster often than the work week. Hoping to for the weather to warm some. I love a great winter snow but when the fluffiness goes away and you are left with very hard, crusty and crunchy snow....it has become too cold. The only good thing is that it will continue to help with the long hot drought we had thru the summer. Anyway...onto my reading. See you all later.

Pavlova with strawberries and "chinese gooseberries", aka kiwi fruit!
-
Athena, thanks for posting the Christie clip! Yeah for him. I was not a big fan, prior to Sandy, and I still disagree on some fundamental policy issues, but Christie tells it like it is, and I got to respect him for it.
-
And here is more dereliction of duty from the House Leadership:
Why do we put up with this?
-
alexandria, yes he does tell it like it is. He is a fighter. 4 minutes into this video he really begins telling it and also in the news conferance following. I live here at the Jersey shore and I know the devastation. This has been an unspeakable disaster for New Jersey.

Barb
-
Barb, I also live in New Jersey, and I know what has happened to this state. I am lucky that my part of the state suffered comparatively minor damage compared to the shore - I had no power for four days and a tree on my garage - and my heart goes out to those still suffering from the aftereffects of the storm. I haven't followed your posts, but I hope that you and your family are okay.
AS is pretty obvious, i am a big Dem - but Christie has earned my respect.

I guess the regressives who voted against the Violence Against Women don't know they have female constiuents. They'll find out next election day!

Chickadee, yippee for your good news!!
Kam, happy retirement!!
Garden gumby, enjoy the warmth of Hawaii as long as you can!! It's cold brrrrr here in Maryland. -
Joining the chorus of "hurrah's" for Chickadee's report!
It was hard to get back to work yesterday after two full weeks off. I managed, but the day seemed loooooong. It didn't help that Eric was off (he has a bunch of "use or lose" leave time he needs to burn through in the next week) and DD is here, sleeping in the back room where I keep my files and stuff. Working from home is generally great, but there are days when I wish I had an office to escape to, and yesterday was one of them!
I did manage to get my replacement passport application in -- thank heavens for the Brooklyn Public Library, which operates a drop-in passport service center that's open evenings. The post office here is hopeless. I've never seen anything like it -- my WORST experience with any post office in Detroit was better than my BEST experience at Van Brunt Station here. (Not sure if I mentioned it here, but my overnight bag was stolen out of our car the morning after our wedding. I was lingering over coffee -- excellent coffee, by the way, you Aussies and Kiwis! -- and some punk kids smashed the back windsheld, grabbed the bag, and disappeared onto the freeway approximately 30 seconds before I came out of the coffee shop. My passport was in the bag. That's Detroit for you: battered, resilient, unexpected, heartbroken, heartbreaking. One moment you're listening to jazz and watching the snow dust the brick pavers in Corktown, thinking the city has never looked more beautiful, and the next moment you're screaming "f%^k" at the sight of your bashed-out windshield.)

There he is! My funny SIL with Rick Campanelli of "Entertainment Tonight"!

-
Blue I love them all and plan to implement some of these almost immediately. Hugs to Wendel and Lilah who I'm sure smile when they see this list.
Don't know if I mentioned.....since daughter and son-in-law have moved here and in with us, we have the addition of their pappeion ( sp ) Georgy St. George. Didn't really need another dog around but I have to admit he is a real cutie. Non-dog lovers would probably not know they are sometimes called butterfly dogs due to their long ears and they way they move --- much like how a butterfly moves its wings. The big bonus is that they are small dogs....Georgy only weighs about 7 lbs. so is not a HUGE addition. Very bright dog as well. My daughter was Georgie's pet stylist ( original owner is a breeder ) and though she had a sale in place for Georgie she stopped it when she realized that Georgie had great feelings for my daughter and when Kate said she had no other dogs, the breeder just gave Georgie to her. Obviously found it more satisfying to place her animals with those who could bond well......rather than the profit ( $1,600 ) for Georgie. We are glad he is here. Fun to watch with some of our cats who are bigger than him.

Inspiring, we can call this a serenade for chickadee's good news, a welcome for wendell, and a lovely way to start the New Year:

Please give someone you love ( including your self) a hug when you've watched/listened to the whole clip

Happy Second Birthday to us on this forum. Let's make our Third Year memorable!

Just an update about the bus rapists in New Delhi. Five have been charged with murder and other crimes; one is a juvenile, who cannot be sentenced in adult court.
http://news.yahoo.com/authorities-charge-5-delhi-gang-rape-150836168.html
Also, it's looking like rapists, even those who are elected officials, are getting their comeupins from Indian women! And good news, police are no longer dismissing rape accusations. Power to the women!!
-
Cheryl, what a wonderful catch!
Happy 2nd birthday to the Thread of Threads! Amazing. We are still here. May we talk shop, solve the world's problems and share for many anniversaries to come.

Yorkiemom~Great news! Thanks for sharing!
I think I may be shaking off the chemo fog a little bit today. At least I'm able to stand long enough to make a lite lunch for DH & me. Fish, mac & cheese, and mixed veggies. I hope I can taste it.
DH goes in for the job application tomorrow. My prayer is, that he will have an " on the spot interview" with the guy he spoke with on the phone. It's the nephew of a dear friend, who started the ball rolling.
Temps are in the single digits in Central Ohio this morning. Brrrrrrr.
Blessings
Paula, the OLD CONSERVATIVE HIPPY -
Glad you're out of the fog Paula! Prayers for your DH to get that awesome job!!
-
Yorkie - I went to The Times of India website after you first wrote about your experiences and suprised at all of the rapes being reported in the newspaper. I have to guess this is part of the awakening? I sent you a PM.
Well Paula - I always connected the anti-war (Vietnam) protests with the Hippie movement, but really they were separate. Hippies were the Old Bohemians of Sausilito and sometimes politics weren't necessarily on their radar. It was more of a life style for them. Though the lifestyle was rather non-Conservative!!! How many more chemo treatments do you have??
Glenna - thank you.

-
Paula, good luck to your husband.
Yay! Happy second birthday to us!!
DD returned to CA last night, and I miss her. the house is so much quieter. On the upside, it's cleaner and i have my computer back. I've written 6 pages today, trying for one more before I quit today. Have to up the daily page count if I'm going to finish on deadline.
-
Paula, here's hoping things go well for your DH. That is great that you are holding up under the AC.
---Athena, the Atheist Non-Hippe. :-)
I am waiting for the Wabbit to design a second birthday cake for us. She is an excellent photoshop-per.
India: I will believe more when I see more.

-
Girls, thanks for all the well wishes. I'm optimistic about this job. He's a good man, and a hard worker, and he deserves this.
I have 2 more AC then 12 weekly taxol. Then on to rads.
I guess my hippy days were more about lifestyle. I couldn't have cared less about politics then. I didn't get interested in politics until Ronald Reagan ran in 1980. I loved that man.
In the 80's my two favorite men were Ronnie, and Willie Nelson. One a Republican statesman, the other a Democrat Outlaw. Go figure. I like who I like.
Peace out
Paula
