I miss her too! She was a hoot to hang out with.

Nice pic, Blue!

Konakat was one of a kind. Loved her humor and amazing attitude!
Here is the Dave Barry year in review article that Sunflowers mentioned:
Haven't had a chance to read all of them, but here are John Avlon's picks for best opinion columns from 2012:
Wishing you all a good night!
-
I will resist the urge to post a picture of my handsome - Canadian - son wearing a uniform sort of like that - with the bearskin hat, red tunic, etc.
-
Don't resist Lassie!
-
Come on lassie. Let us see.
-
Who is Konakat?
I think there is so much physical beauty in Canada.....beyond The Mounties and Lassie's son (I hope you've crawled out of your hole by now?)
We would drive by these mountains (the Bugaboos) to go to my father's town. My gf in Portland has a much more exquisite photo of these mountains. Excellent backpacking and very few people:

My father grew up on this lake in BC

Konakat was best known as a Canadian spy living amoung the Americans. She was loved and trusted by both sides of the aisle. She was a true angel...not in a heavenly way...but in a human way. She was a motorcycle riding, leather wearing, scrappy fighter who said what she thought without malice. She had a beautiful dream before she died that gave her, and many of us, peace. I picture her now in that peaceful place.
-
He was one of these guys. This is outside our Parliament building in Ottawa. -
You must be a very proud mamma!
-
Pip - Thanks. I did look through her posts, but did not find the dream. Her very first post sure did set a tone. Still trying to connect up Konakat with the Mounties pic?
-
Hey E, I already have two Medicare freeloaders in the house. Together we'll make it a threesome.
Funny thing is, they haven't had any Docs quit on them. Well there was this time my husband told this psychiatrist he was a ¥$&!?*#* and we got a letter suggesting he had nothing more to offer our son. But he was an idjut anyway. -
Kam-I'm not sure if it was Konacat who used to post the Mounties pictures. I do remember that she had a fine appreciation for the masculine form. And cabana boys.
Here's a link to the page her dream post was on.

Kam - is that Okanagan??? I've been there and loved it.

Happy New Year to my lefty libie "people are Strange" sistas. I missed the drama that happened with the moderators deleting. Sigh. I thought we were all getting along to the point that maybe we can finally go back to agreeing to disagree my sistas. I really hate when the mods jump in and delete. We are all reasonable and caring women and though passionate about different philosophies we should be allowed to work this out on our own as mature women. If someone is reduced to name calling or insulting remarks we can handle it i'm sure. The mods are really getting rediculous to the point I'm not enjoying coming here. Please stop Mods!! Let us handle our own differences. I know when I come here next door I am on their liberal thinking side of the street. I respect that and don't feel I have to insult them. I've learned to like and appreciate personally some of the girls here. Blue, I enjoy your posts about your Wendel and do appreciate many things you say in our neighborhood. Athena1 I've learned to love your' lionesse personna. I, myself adore lions and everything about them. I watched many episodes of lioness documentaries on Animal Planet and National Geographic. I love their society and all they go thru to protect their cubs within the pride.
I didn't want to ramble on, and on I just came on over to wish you all Health and Happiness in 2013. Happy New Year Girls. I do look foreward to more friendly debates between us.

Sorry to disagree but the mods were right to delete the posts last night - they were nasty and uncalled for.
-
I missed the posts, but want to know if I have to stop sleeping with my Canadian DH?
Chickadee--It sounds like we have the same insurance, or else BC/BS just bought out all other insurance contracts.-----kad2kar

A lot of assumptions are being made about the deleted posts, elsewhere. While I appreciate "let's all get along," that is the opposite of what was deleted, and that was in response to a very gracious post by one of ours. Sandy - I agree, uncalled for.
Suzie...my geography of that area isn't that great, but I believe the Okanagon is the valley that runs along the western side of the Bugaboos and the Okanagon valley connects to my father's town, Salmon Arm.
-
Kam & Sandi I didn't see her post, and though I'm not saying "lets all get along", I did think it was more peaceful. I don't know who said what, but if her post was "nasty and uncalled for" whatever.... we can all ignore nasty and uncalled for comments, and make a choice on whether we want to respond back in an unnasty way. We don't need to be suddenly silenced and censored. I disagree with what the mods are doing. Seems a little wierd that they do that.

Really I don't get on the computer for a couple of days and find there hass been a bit of a stauch. MAybe the Canadians can come and help me throw pavolvas at the Australians not sure why, they haven't done anything at the moment but they are sure to soon. Sometimes I do feel really guilty about the socialist medical care we have here.
Things have been really quiet in this part of the world, everyone is on holiday of course so nothing happens. No politicans to create problems and our biggest worry is the weather. Unfortunately DH has to work through - his business is exporting fruit and vegetables and so this is the busiest time of the year.
It's hot and sticky here, think we might get rain tonight - well i hope we do.
Konakat had some great montie pictures!!! She was wonderful.
Big hugs to everyone.
PS My SiL is Canadian and DD and the family head there in June.
-
Aly - hot and sticky here too. You can't throw pavs at me, I'm a Kiwi

-
Actually Suzie, it would be the waste of a good pav to throw it at someone but have seen it done in student days.
-
You could use lamingtons

-
So, I'm in that between 60 and 65 neverland where insurance is very expensive, but DH may lose his job, and (thus both of our insurance). He's 65, the rat, so he'll be fine. Still annoyed at Obama for not having a national option, but at least I can't be denied coverage. Eyeing Canada, though, and cold or not, looks pretty good to me. I'm partial to the Montreal area.
-
Montreal is glorious! Ray took me there just before my lumpectomy in 2006. I loved it there. Some parts of town are so rustic! And the food!
Wendel, the demon dog, had me up early today! We have to talk.....lol!
-
I spent the winter of 1982-83 in Montreal and loved it.
-
Yup, we have some crazy politicians here too, and they sound even crazier when their comments are shown out of context. I usually like to read the "web" for my daily laughs. Freeloaders like me have got to get their kicks somehow! My oh my, the hatred is tangible in some "blogs".
But I'll stick to the positives and let that hatred slide down my back and kiss my netherpart.
I am Canadian!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRI-A3vakVg
And that's the end of that!
-
Barb, we should move on, but it is easier said than done. I'm glad you like my Wendel saga.
He's so cute, but I now refer to him as the "demon" dog. Way too much energy for Lilah, and me. We are very laid-back. Loves eating, usually his dinner and most of Lilah's, but he's pretty good with the potty training. Very few accidents. Couple more weeks and I think he will be fully trained.
He's momma's little boy, loves to fall asleep in my arms.
-
I was born in Montreal and lived there for my first 25 years - LOVED IT! Decided to move out to Calgary in 1971 to ski for the winter - ended up meeting and marrying DH (an American) and never have lived in Montreal again - haven't visited for a number of years as most of my family has passed on and friends moved out in the great exodus of '76 but it is still one of my favourite places on the planet - love the whole Province of Quebec and the food, oh the food, and the people....I believe I am homesick!
-
There is a huge misconception still abounding that some of us don't get along BECAUSE of differing political views. That is not quite accurate. Differing views brought out some differences and created strife, but harmonious relationships and even friendships have also sprung up between both sides - and many times, those sides "met" while disagreeing politically on BCO.
Could not agree more about the need not to speculate. I was involved in one response to the first post deleted by the mods, so I know what that post said. I briefly undid my block settings in the hope that I would hear some news about a poster I had inquired about (who I have always liked and is on the opposite political spectrum from me) - that is how I came to respond. Other than that, I don't know what else was written. The last two posts that are deleted on that thread I did not see, as my settings were back on - and I don't want to know what they said --or what anyone said anywhere-- so no PMs, please.
"Eavesdroppers rarely hear any good of themselves" - that is such a true statement. Heresay and gossip only destroy and terrorize. IMO, it's a good idea not to put oneself in that situation - especially if the information encountered is from a source you don't respect. Oh, I'm guilty of seeking gossip - put me in the supermarket checkout counter and I will pick up a gossip rag while I wait in line - lol! Just make sure it's gossip that gives you a good laugh - and that you don't spread it.
There is one observation worth making: I have almost never heard the mods be so direct and unequivocal in their explanation for the deletions. I often disagree with their rulings, but this very direct note --and what I know of their moderation-- tells me that any reasonable person would have done as they did.
Chickadee - here's hoping you find a good replacement for your son's doctor. What a major drag!
-
Sandy, go back for a visit. Montreal has changed, it was always amazing. But it is even more so, now.
