    The Scandalous Jerry Lee Lewis!

Liberace was brilliant! I was so looking forward to his movie, " Behind the Candlelabra, starring Michael Douglas, and Matt Damon, but its on Showtime or HBO or one of those channels I don't have. Hopefully they'll release it on DVD.

Mary~Yes, I'm an old hippy, and if I had some marijuana right now I'd sure smoke it, and not feel a bit guilty, even though I haven't used it in years. But hey! I got chemo today.

Paula-you can smoke it legally here in Washington State now. You can't buy it or sell it but you can HAVE it. Not sure how that's going to play out. You can get it medicinally, however, if you have a "green" card. My SIL and I joke that we can probably get "green" cards now, if we want, since we're cancer survivors.

hahaha - never smoked it myself, but still people call me an old hippy.  Probably because I (used to) have long hair and still love to tie dye stuff...

what about Country Joe and the Fish?

I'm not quite old enough to have been a true hippie(I'm 52), but I sure do remember the era. My mom's younger brother and his wife were definitely hippies. He's gone now, but the funny thing is their son, who is 42, is the most right-wing, conservative person I know. Reminds me a lot of Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties. I told him that once, and he said he considered that a compliment and an honor.

Neil Diamond & Barbara Streisand singing, " You Don't Bring Me Flowers."

Did y'all know that Carol King used to babysit for Little Eva who sang " Locomotion?" I learned that from my 24 year old son who loves Carol King.

Mary~I know its legal in Wa, and Colo. The mother of my DIL lives near Denver. She's fighting stage IV ovarian cancer, so she get has the card.

I've always believed it should be legalized, even though, I abstain now. Imagine how it could surge our economy. Farmers, harvesters, truckers, factory workers, tobacco tax!

Peter, Paul, & Mary...Puff, the Magic Dragon!

Juliaanna~I could listen to Don Williams all day without getting tired of him.

Mary~Why can't our guys in DC, both parties put their heads together and come up with some fixes for our economy? Legalize pot, get our own oil out of the ground, and penalize American companies that take their jobs out of the country.

My DH is a forklift operator. Right now he's working through a temp service. He brought home $283 this week. Next weeks pay will be minus 2 days for Christmas, and 1 day for snow emergency. Next week they're off 2 days again for New Years. These are jobs he used to make $14 hourly with lots of benefits and OT.

I blame HUGE Capitol Hill EGOS.

This old hippy's going to bed.

    Goodnight

Old Hippie here, too, waving at all the other old hippies, esp. Paula.

A few of my favs that haven't been mentioned yet:

Eric Clapton, Tears in Heaven.  I played that nonstop after my mother died. Layla.  great guitar playing,

Traffic, John Barlycorn is Dead and the Low Spark of High Heel Boys.

Moody Blues: Nights in White Satin.

Judy Collins, Some Day Soon, Farewell to Tarwaithie, What I'll Give you since you've asked.

Peter Paul and Mary, Monday Morning.

    Holly Near, Mountain Song.

Anyone else remember Country Joe and the Fish.  One two three, what are we fighting for?

Oh yes, and a lot of people have mention Fleetwood Mac.  One of my all-time favorites, Landslide. I love Stevie Nicks' voice and the guitar playing.  And then the lyrics just call to me.

    Eminem, "Slim Shady"

'Cause I'm Slim Shady, yes I'm the real Shady
All you other Slim Shadys are just imitating
So won't the real Slim Shady please stand up,
please stand up, please stand up?

That should probably be a guilty pleasure considering some of that man's views, but he is a great artist.

    Here is a guilty pleasure:

    "P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-P-Poker Face....."

Some like Madonna - I like Lady Gaga!

And then there is this, which is truly divine:

Good snowy Saturday morning.....hmmmm, Les Paul & Mary Ford.....drastically dating myself.  "How High The Moon".  I guess in reality.....I have liked many different kinds of music at different times in my life.  Several that were done by the Dixie Chicks.

Hoping things progress in Washington today.

Motown. Did anybody else watch Soul Train? The Jackson Five? I had J5 and (hate to admit it) Donny Osmond posters on my wall, which were later replaced with Michael Matz and Rodney Jenkins (equestrians).

Now I vicariously like My Chemical Romance through my daughter.

My political prediction for today: More talks of almost kinda reaching something that could be termed an agreement, followed by temper tantrums and demands to stay up past their bedtime (I'm not naming names or parties, but you know who you are, baggers).

Looking forward, some agreement will happen by 2pm NYE though it won't be anything sane or good. More a ....let's drive parallel to the cliff for a while so we can par-tay like the Mayans! And then this will all come up again when we hit the debt ceiling. Again.

I call buffoonery. Oh yes, this is way beyond shenanigans.

It's giving the nation the finger, freeloaderly at its worst, E. Boehner and McConnell run a party that isn't really a party, but rather what is left over when you cross out the democrats and liberals.

And congress, over the past few years, loves to make laws with rules and deadlines but consistently fails to meet theirs.

We were promised snow -- still waiting.

Hope some are enjoying my link, above. I am. Perfect for a quiet Saturday.

ETA: Yes - Chicago is wonderful....Peter Gabriel too.

Enjoyful......when I lived in Detroit, I was not too far from the Motown Recording Studio.  We would often see a lot of "musicians" and others.......but only one we recognized was Chubby Checker.....when he was still chubby.

Also grew up with American Bandstand......Rockin' Robin......a bit hit at the skating rink.  Was a great one for skate/dancing to.  In those days I was much smaller in size so dancing, skating were sort of easy for me.  Which also reminds me how easy it was to use a hula hoop.  Bet I would have trouble keeping one of those up for 5 seconds now.  "Those Were The Days My Friend" --- sure to hefty, older, and slow to make those things work very well now.

"So the American people are watching what we do here," the president said. "Obviously, their patience is already thin. This is deja vu all over again. America wonders why it is in this town ... everything always has to wait for the last minute. Well, we're now at the last minute."........

....."Ordinary folks, they do their jobs," he said. "They meet deadlines. They sit down and they discuss things and then things happen; if there are disagreements, they sort through the disagreements. The notion that our elected leadership can't do the same thing is mind-boggling to them."

    Good morning Ladies,

Has anyone mentioned Crosby Stills Nash & Young?

I mentioned earlier that my secret love is Kid Rock, not the rapper, but the country singer of recent years. He really shows his heart now.

Hootie & the Blowfish. I couldn't name one song they sang, but now that Darius Rucker has made a new name for himself in Country Music, I'm a fan! He told Oprah a few years back, that he went to his producers. He wanted to sing from his heart about love, his wife, children etc. they said NO, so he went Country. Oprah asked him, " Isn't it true, that Country is the Real Soul Music?" He said, " yes, it is."

This is Day 2 second round of AC. So far today I just have a bit of odd sinus feeling. No nausea at all, but then I didn't have any last tx either.

I blame both parties in Washington. Boehner needs to bend a little more, and so does Reid. They all want to have the Last Word, and the LAST WORD is, America is depending on them! But, what do they care? They're all set for life.

    Peace & Blessings

My god you guys are on a roll. Let's see if I can catch up.

OK, I'll confess to loving Paul Revere and the Raiders. And Neil Diamond. ABBA. Queen. Simon & Garfunkle. BeeGees. Peter, Paul, & Mary. Rebelled against the Doors and any hard rock because they were my older sister's favorites. I have since seen the error of my ways.

And being a band/orchestra geek, all Classical. Especially Tchaikovsky and Dvorak and Brahms.

Oh--and Herb Albert and the Tiajuana Brass!

One-offs - "Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest and "Moonlight Feels Right" by Starbuck.

Love the Dixie Chicks - "Goodbye Earl" is hilarious and "Taking the Long Way" is one of my personal anthems, as is Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down."

Van Morrison, "Brown-eyed Girl," "Moondance," "Into the Mystic" (although Lowen and Navarro's version is much better, IMO, with Dan Navarro's wonderful baritone).

For standards, nothing can beat the velvet baritone of Ed Ames - not only his famous "My Cup Runneth Over," but other ones like "Mary in the Morning" and "Time, Time." I met him at a record-signing event at a local department store when I was 10 - my mom gave me money and sent me to buy his "My Cup Runneth Over" album (he was giving a concert in town but we didn't have enough money to go - we only had enough money for the album). He was so kind - when I got up to the table, I was paralyzed by his good looks and just stood there staring, with big huge eyes. He asked my name and I whispered it - and he half-stood, leaned over and put his hand on my fingers where they clutched the table edge, smiled and asked softly, "Can you say it a little louder, sweetheart?" I was in LOOOOOVE! I had to spell it, too, because it is unusual. I still have that signed album ... In fact, I have all my vinyl, some vinyl from friends who got rid of theirs, and some vinyl from when I lived in my condo and someone put several hundred albums in one of the trash rooms for people to pick through. Digitizing it all is one of my retirement projects.

Oooh, Rickie Lee Jones' "It Must Be Love."

Love traditional Irish music, too. Planxty was one of my favorite bands - love "Little Musgrave." You can find it on You Tube. Also Altan - have seen them in concert a couple of times.

The Rankin Family from Nova Scotia (?) - great Celtic trad music. The Chieftains (we have Kennedy Center tix to see them this March).

Really, just about anything except rap or heavy metal/headbanger music (the kind that sounds like people falling down concrete stairs accompanied by metal trash cans). Not a fan of opera, either, although I won't turn it off if it comes on our local classical music station. There aren't enough hours in the day to listen to everything I want to hear!

    L

P.S. Too angry about the fiscal debacle (more like a curb than a cliff, but a debacle by any definition of the word) to venture any comment here. I can't do it without swear words.
