Bobby Vinton.......Blue Velvet!
-
Paula - every one of the artists you named - YES. Also, John Denver. George Gershwin - loved his music. I always loved listening to the radio. I like David Gray and love listening to Enya and Enigma. I also love the sax so will listen to Kenny G for hours. Mustn't leave out Louis Armstrong, either.

LOOOVE Cole Porter!! There is a great bio-documentary on Oscar Hammerstein on PBS -- "Out of My Dreams" that showcases his many progressive beliefs and good works, including adopting two Japanese-American children after WW II, a very outspoken statement at the time. And a constant anti-bigotry thread runs through his lyrics. I'm sure most of you have seen it, but it really makes one like his music and stories even more.

Love Cole Porter.
Also, the sort of classic, family musicals - My Fair Lady and The Sound of Music - I can't count how many times I listened to and watched each as a child and as an adult. Anyone remember Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
I think we girls listened to the Vinyl until it broke. Not an opera fan becuse my parents weren't so we didn't go much. I have warmed up to it slightly since but I wouldn't choose a night out.
So I have already HUGELY 'fessed up to the singer I am embarrassed to like (see previous page). Anyone else care to say who they secretly listen to? You can't get any worse than me....out with it, folks!

The Monkees??????????????????????

I'm a Believer, I couldn't leave her if I tried! Nope, sorry, I'm too young to remember Peter, Mike, Davy, & Micky.
My younger brother, Bobby, lived with me in the early 80's. one year I asked him what he wanted for Christmas. When he said, cassette tapes, I asked what music he wanted. I was amazed when he said, " Either George Jones or Black Sabbath." What a combination! I guess I'm a bit like that. I love classic rock, but also love country.
I don't recall anyone mentioning Rod Stewart. Do you think he's sexy?
AC went ok. I got the headache from zophran almost immediately, but Tylenol took care of it. I don't expect any other SEs until the steroids start to leave my system.
Blessings

I thought the Monkees were great fun and they got better with time.
I was into Bluegrass for awhile because Wash DC for a bit attracted a lot of Bluegrass talent. There was a great local group called The Seldom Scene that played a small club in N Va suburbs that had almost a cul following. Got to see them once. I really liked the instrumentation. -

Enjoying the music discussion here. My two all time favorite groups are Earth, Wind, and Fire, and of course, Heart. I have seen both in concert many, many times. I'm so glad Heart will be getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year!
Paula-it's good to put a face to your name. I hope chemo is not too hard on you.
I went to my local DMV today to renew my driver's license. I was in and out in 5 minutes! I swear it's a Christmas miracle!

Linda Ronstadt had a few albums i really liked.
Love Cole Porter.
Jazz: Dave Brubeck ,Bill Evans, Ellis Marseilles and his kids.
Also like blue grass, Celtic.
Classical- big Mozart fan. Also like some opera. Carmen. Faust. La Boheme. Sang in the chorus forCarmen.
Paula- hang in there. We re rooting for u. -
I remember my 5 year older sister tried to embarass me once for even thinking of singing along with "We've Only Just Begun" by the Carpenters. It was a catchy tune. The Beatles were my first love. I was around 10 years old and somehow fanagled 2 tickets to the Cow Palace in SF to see them on their first tour. Heard more screaming than singing though.
Love Ira Gershwin! My mother taught piano and accordian and brother is a jazz pianist, so I have a lot of mid-century and classical tunes in my head.
Tuned out of music from around 1975 to 2000 (though certain groups seeped into my consciousness throughout college - CSN!! Neil Young Dire Straits, Joni Mitchell (and yes, the Bee Gees)...seriously, though, I didn't know who Sting was until he was an old man. Pink Floyd? I discovered "Wish you were here" also after 2000...love that song. Aerosmith..might have appreciated them at the time. Funny thing, I use to teach step class in the 90's and would use pre-mixed tapes of songs adapted from artists of the time, so in some cases I knew the songs, but not the original artists. I am not one to turn on the radio to listen to music.

Athena~Thanks for sharing. It's so disgusting how humans can find so many heinous ways to hurt or kill each other.
YramAL~I'm hoping SEs are no worse than last time. That was doable.
I love Heart too. My favorites are " What about Love " and " Alone."
It's funny, if I made a mixed tape for my van, it could go from ACDC to Queen, to Willie Nelson, to Celine, to Aretha. I just love music and I'm willing to give it all a try. I really can't tolerate rap or punk though.
Marvin Gaye! Lets Get It On!!!!
Blessings
Paula -
Paula - thanks for reminding me of Pink Floyd - how could I forget. Roger Walters is a genius, IMO.
That situation in India is too awful.
-
Paula-it has been a long held dream of mine to see Celine Dion in Las Vegas. One of these days......my husband says he'd rather poke his eyes out. LOL.
Edited to add-Marvin Gaye. Oh, my. Paula, I think you and I have a lot of musical tastes in common.

I love Queen!
-
Yes, yes!! Proudly so! Still have one of their vinyl records.
-
Pink Floyd was me

Oh Queen...Bohemian Rhapsody. Hope I'm not confusing with Kiss or something. This was another group I caught up with 20 years later.
-
My son used all my vinyls as frizbees! The bum!
-
Me too a couple pages back!

Lest we forget Soul Music.....the Temptations, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Aretha, the Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas...........and James Brown. I FEEL GOOOD, NANANANA....
Also some of the best music for sloooowww dancing.....and nuns who had to separate you and tell you to keep your eyes open. Awww come on sister. -
Guilty pleasures - novelty songs. The Witch Doctor song by Alvin & the Chipmunks. Convoy by C.W. McCall. The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati and Boobs-a-Lot (from college days) by the Holy Modal Rounders. Monster Mash. Yummy, Yummy by the 1910 Fruit Gum Company.
And HOW could I have forgotten Bruce Hornsby! And The Boss!!!
L -
Oh my.....all those great singers.....some of my big favorites were Bee Gees, Bob Seeger, Linda Ronstadt, Dire Straits, Willie Nelson as in all the music to Honeysuckle Rose. Also who did Stagger Lee.
As well.....Bob Dylan with the album Nashville Skyline.
If you all want a big treat......I don't have the link to this because I'm inept where that is concerned, but just type in Perpetum Jazille into your browser and when that comes up look for Out of Africa. I think this group does it almost better than the original version and you can see just how it is all done. There are no instruments.....it is fantastic. I hope you will all give it a try. I thought it was amazing the first time I saw it.
