So...whats for dinner?

Michelle,
Now that you are the master of your own popcorn once again, that sounds like the perfect supper. All the best tomorrow with your appointments tommorow. Will send good thoughts while I am managing my ping-pong client.
*susan*
-
Michelle - All the best wishes coming your way for your tests tomorrow. Think dinner will be an apple with caramel dipping sauce.
-
Oh Luv, I LOVE Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory's caramel apple covered with pecans. We don't have one nearby, probably a very good thing! I could easily make that my supper tomorrow night! I've had them from other vendors and they are just not as good - RMCF uses crispy Granny Smith apples and that tart apple is so yummy with the caramel and nuts!
And thanks for the good wishes, everyone!
-
Michelle,
My thoughts and prayers added to all those expressed here for nothing short of spectacular news tomorrow!!! You are in my thoughts tonight and will be thinking of you tomorrow! -
Well, blow me up...I mean down.
What do you all think of this, my nieces love it, they are RN's.

-
That's hysterical, Deb! I couldn't make this stuff up....and you find it!
Caring thoughts going along with you tomorrow, Michelle. And have a great late lunch!
Was baking cookies all day, so we ordered pizza and Greek salad for dinner to avoid having to shift gears and cook serious food in the midst of cookie dough everywhere. -
Too funny Deb!
-
Hi everyone -
I'm salivating over susan's ravioli photo!
I haven't been reading/posting much since Friday so I just spent the last few moments catching up on the thread.
Michelle - thoughts and prayers from here as well!
My Moisturel came in the mail yesterday. Tried it on my hands but haven't tried it on my face yet. And re: popcorn . . . I am a popcorn addict. My latest favorite way to make it is to pop it in a paper sack in the microwave (no oil) and then sprinkle on extra virgin olive oil and pink Himalayan salt AND my very latest favorite addition: fresh lemon juice. And then, I eat it with a spoon!
The other day hubby brought home four treats from the office that his former assistant had grabbed for him (he only goes into the main office one day a week). Four popcorn packages shaped like ice cream cones filled with four different popcorn flavors. (1) chocolate covered (it was REALLY good (2) caramel (pretty good) (3) kettle corn (hubby ate that one (4) cheese flavored (hubby ate that one as well).

The one I liked so much is called Zebra chocolate.
---
Tonight's dinner for us was Panda fast-food Chinese. I had the Firecracker Chicken - only 240 calories - with vegetables and a teeny bit of rice. Pretty good! Lots of hot peppers and yellow peppers.
We made homemade soup yesterday. Vegetable with brussel sprouts, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, onions, carrots, garlic, basil, salt, pepper. I had made up a large pan of quinoa the day before so for leftovers, we stir in a big spoonful of quinoa with the soup and it really makes for a nice flavor/texture.
The other night we went to California Pizza Kitchen for dinner and we both ordered a new salad on their menu:
Arugula
Quinoa
Sun Dried tomatoes
Feta Cheese
Asparagus
Red onions
Champagne vinaigrette (hubby went with that - I chose my favorite CPK dressing instead - dijon vinaigrette).
It was a very good salad. VERY filling. They had run out of bread and the minute we saw it we were skeptical. As it turns out - they had run over to BJ's (another chain - not sure if it's exclusive to California or not) and bought bread from them. Weirdest bread ever. It was like eating slices of angel food cake! Other than that, it was a good meal and one of the rare times when I deviated from my all-time favorite CPK menu item/craving which is the Tri-Colore Pizza Salad.
Wishing you all the best for the holidays and beyond. I love coming to this thread and reading about the food and moreover, your lives and thoughts...
-
Another baking day today. Three kind of cookies - lemon, fig rugelach and sweet dreams (a brown sugar chocolate chip and walnut rolled in powdered sugar then baked) and dough for crusty breads. I also need to make spiced apple rings for Christmas eve dinner. My DH and DS wouldn't think it was Christmas without them.
Somehow I have to work in a trip to the grocery store so dinner is tbd. I'd better get moving! -
Deb that picture is hysterical Someone is very creative.
WOW on all that popcorn LeeA My hubby is the popcorn fanatic in this house, although I like it too. He of course can only do the traditional and wont try anything different. Anything with caramel or chocolate is ok with me!
Michelle Good luck with your scans today.
Last night wanted to use up the ham so made a wine sauce with te diced up ham, onions, mushrooms and a can of diced tomatos and lots of garlic and mixed with penne pasta...very yummy and easy.
Grocery store trip today and probably a big taco salad for dinner tonight.
-
Michelle thinking positive thoughts for you!
LeeA I am craving your salad. I don't know what champagne sauce is
Eric your recipe reminds me of something my Mom used to make. It was green and molded with chopped walnuts and maybe cottage cheese and had a dressing that she made that looked like french dressing? We used to beg for it! She also used to make her own cheese balls and roll them in nuts. Now that sounds like fun!
Kay, Yay! On your possible enrollment. That's very exciting and you are so wonderful to advance science, but mostly I hope that it advances your health!
This place smells like damp ashes and kitty litter. I must get off the sofa soon and do something about it. It is another requested day off. Things get out of control in a small space.
Wishing everyone the best
-
Hi everyone! It has been forever since I have posted. I get on and read when I can but have fallen so far behind.
Michelle- I hope your scan go well, ((((hugs)))))
I am so far behind on everything. With the kids been sick for a couple of weeks, I got nothing done for Christmas. Then just as they were better I had a fall on the stairs and hyper extended my big toe- which put me in a boot and not driving or walking much for 5 days or so. So now I am trying to play catch up and get ready for Christmas. I am hoping to finish my shopping on Friday afternoon and try to get a bunch wrapped while the boys go to my in laws for the afternoon. A girl can hope right?
We have been doing a lot of Christmas things- ginger bread houses which we went to the library to do. Our town library is awesome and does it for free and the boys had a wonderful time. We have done sugar cookies- which we will have to do one more time before Christmas and we have done both the kids Christmas party at DH's work and the adult party was last Saturday night. We are supposed to go out this weekend again- not sure who will help with the kids?
Food has been simple- pot pies, a ham and tonight will be meatloaf.
I hope everyone is well and I send you all hugs.

I am back from seeing the Rad Onc and then having the PET/CT scan. I brought home the CD and will soon spend some time practicing being a radiologist...lol. Gotta do it, even though I'm no expert. I think I gave my last scan's CD to Dr. Chen so I can only compare to the May version. Oh well, I'm totally expecting progression - my CA27.29 went from 126 or so to 313. The good news is that my brain mets seem to be either gone or not causing any trouble. I'll have a brain MRI later in January.
And then we went to Five Guys for burgers and fries. Naughty, I know. But I was starving and my blood sugar was really good (they always test before they inject the radioactive glucose) so I felt totally justified!!! Supper will definitely be popcorn much later this evening.
Laurie - you just can't seem to catch a break! Five days in a boot, what a pain! So don't sweat what you don't get done - you've already given your boys many nice Christmas activities. I hope you get that window of opportunity to wrap.
Oh, I got an email from Cleaning for a Reason and they matched me with a cleaning service. I get cleaning for free, once a month for 4 months. I'll probably alternate them with the service I just hired for the 4 months - I do like to get cleaned every two weeks. If you haven't heard of this service, they do free cleaning for women undergoing chemo. I tried once before but didn't get a match. This time it worked out.
-
Laurie, I also hope, you can get some to wrap gifts, unassisted!
I agree with Michelle, that even if you have to pare down, you have provided some very nice holiday events for your boys already!
I actually went to the mall today....my only shopping trip of this season....only got there b/c I was picking up some borrowed baby paraphernalia for the upcoming visit, and that friend lived really close to the mall. It worked out well, since I was able to get DH a gift that I had totally forgotten he asked for. Whew! I will not be rushing back anytime soon...hope there are no returns.
When I got home I learned from my DS2 that he arranged for his company's charitable fund to donate a nice large sum of $$$ to Breast Cancer.org. He had asked me for suggestions of non-profits that I thought would benefit, since he has been on this committee for a couple of years now and he was running out of new ideas of orgs that he knows well. So he pitched it to me and I offered him some ideas with this great org being at the top of the list. Always happy to see big business being socially responsible.
Meanwhile, DS1 and DDIL let us know this week about a death in her extended family. We will all be going to the funeral services in RI on Fri and Sat, then they will be coming up for a few days from there. This is an especially tough week for families to experience a loss....for so many reasons.
I am a bit crazed about prep for the "meet the baby" open house we're having on Sunday given that a lot more people are planning to come than I had guessed would. I'm sure it will all work out. Off to the food store..... -
Oh Laurie sorry on the toe...we dont realize how important those toes are until we hurt one...and boy does it hurt!!
Michelle Hopefully no progression found in those scans positive thoughts Glad you got the cleaning all figured out and they found a match. One month is a long time to go between cleanings....the dust from the heat being on and the hair from the dog, I have to dust and vacuum every week here.
Forgot the nachos for the taco salad, had to call hubby to pick them up....oh if I only had a brain!

As if fighting breast cancer wasn't enough, I'm now fighting for a healthy workplace. How can someone bully a cancer survivor! Unbelievable, but it's true! Stress is the last thing that I need.
Please help pass this the Healthy Workplace bill in Maryland: http://www.change.org/petitions/maryland-state-legislators-pass-the-anti-bullying-healthy-workplace-bill
-
Carrie- Now I want a taco salad.
Deb- too funny- I love it!
Lacey- Your welcome to baby party will be great despite what you have to go through to get there. So sorry about the passing of your family member.
Tomorrow I do the grocery shopping trip for Christmas...I wonder how much I will forget? Dh took a half hour drive tonight to go get a must have present for DS #2, so psyched we found it!
I'm pooped and ready to head to bed with my book. I think we will all rest in January?
-
Lacey - so sorry to hear of a death in your extended family. There's never a good time, but it's so hard this time of year.
I'm sure your party will be fantastic, despite all the work involved.
Deb - that is such a cute picture! Where do you find this stuff?
I'm heading out to do a little shopping today and stopping at a wig shop. Still not happy with the one I just bought, but at least it was relatively inexpensive. I want something a little longer and a little curly - my neck gets cold...lol. And I'm going by myself, going to get the one that pleases me. Hopefully, this shop is big enough to carry the size that fits me. The last one I got is already too big - either it has stretched or my scalp has shrunk!
We're going to dinner with my son and his SO tonight. Not sure where yet. Might be time for some Italian. We'll see what they feel like eating.
-
Dodging snowflakes to travel to the city for our casino overnight today. I'm glad the world is due to end tomorrow and not today. I'm due for a prime rib dinner this evening with a piece of red velvet cake for dessert that I don't want to miss.
Anybody else have special meal plans for today, our last day together ;-) -
Auntie, prime rib sounds so good! I'm a carnivore.
Cooked carrots and fingerling sweet potatoes as sides last night. The carrots were small, from the CSA. Left them them whole. Steamed in a saute pan in chicken broth until about cooked. Added 1 T butter and about a T. of splenda brown sugar for a delicious glaze. The fingerling sweet potatoes I quartered and put on a baking sheet. Splashed EVOO and S & P and roasted in a 450 degrees oven for about 30 min., stirring once. There was (is) more thick slices of beef roast left so I warmed 2 serving portions (2 slices for dh and 1 for me) with a balsamic glazing sauce.
Yesterday's big bag of CSA veggies is sitting in the kitchen. More carrots, a big round cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, more fingerling sweet potatoes, meyer lemons, black kale and salad greens. Next Wed. is the last week of this session. Will probably turn on the big refrigerator in the 5th wheel rv for the overflow of veggies. Planned to turn it on for Christmas anyway. I don't have room in my refrig. for dishes cooked ahead of time.
A front came through last night bringing some rain and wind, but I slept through it. We're supposed to have a couple of days of colder temps then warming up again to 70 degrees for Christmas day. So the fireplace won't be in use. I'll put some poinsettias on the hearth. We're hosting the family dinner.
Michelle, fingers crossed that your scan reveals good news. Lacey, I'm expecting your open house to be a big success. Deb, enjoyed your pic with the ornaments. Greetings to everyone. Hope things are going well with holiday preparations.
-
Lol Nancy!! DH and I were thinking about going out to dinner on Sunday as kind of a 'calm before the chaos' kind of thing.... Maybe we should go tonight instead.

-
auntienance that sounds like the perfect end of the world dinner and fun at the casino.
Michelle Definitely get what you like, your the one that has to wear it...and I agree on the cold neck thing.
Daughter from NYC ordered Omaha Steaks for her Dad for Christmas and had them delivered here to the house. I wrapped them in Christmas paper and put in the freezer. She says "don't let Dad see them or he will know what they are" Ha ha like he ever looks in the freezer.
Hmmmm now I've gotta come up with an end of the world dinner
-
So here is the email exchange between my oncologist and me today:
Me: had the scan earlier this afternoon. I have a copy of the CD - looks like I
lit it up like a Christmas tree. I guess I'm not entirely surprised with the
27.29 results. Sure hope the carboplatin performs some magic!Dr. Walsh: Just looked at the scan. Ugh! Hopefully Carbo will be the Grinch to your unwelcome Christmas tree. See you next week.
I guess that says it all. At least she has a sense of humor!
Got the new wig today and the folks were fantastic. They processed all the paperwork so it will be an insurance claim and I left there without having to cough up a dime. It's a little darker but it has that "razor-cut" look. And bless their hearts, they know how to fix the wigs I have so they will fit better. They can actually take a couple rows of hair and webbing out of the cap! Who knew? They had more than 300 wigs in stock! I could have gotten a free one from the ACS supply that they had, but nothing floated my boat.
-
Michelle Not quite sure what those texts mean, did they see more, less, or the same? More areas? or same areas only larger? Carboplatin was in my cocktail during my treatment and I am praying that it is the miracle drug that is required to put all those lights out! Hopefully when you see her she can give you some specifics as to what is being seen. Do you see her before or after Christmas? Love your choice on the wig and glad they can fix your other ones. Hang in there...think of you every day.
-
Michelle, I strongly second your dr.'s hope that your treatment douses those Christmas lights.
DH took advantage of my absence this afternoon and baked dozens and dozens of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. This is an annual Christmas ritual with him. We'll bag up cookies for the neighbors and have cookies left for Christmas day. Now if I can just resist eating them.
My mother wasn't feeling well enough for me to take her to have her hair done today so I cooked some chicken pasta soup and took to her. I had a bowl with her and it was pretty good.
-
Michelle, I see why you like your onc so much. She gets it. You get it. Her response was just about perfect.
The drugs for this new disease they say I have are making me feel like crap. I wake more tired than when I went to bed. Worked with three different clients today. Everyone wants so much before the end of my work day today. I still have at least three hours of work tonight. I guess I looked as bad as I feel since husband announced that we were eating out tonight. I had a bowl of Pho, the ultimate comfort food.
Now I have to figure out Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas brunch. And find stocking gifts. And make cookies.
*susan*
-
Michelle, your onc is probably so glad to have such a well-informed patient who can maintain her own sense of humor, at a serious time.
Susan, you are really doing a lot for someone who is going through energy draining treatment. Any way you can cut back on the holiday food prep expectations?
DH helped me (a lot!) wrap gifts today since we needed to get the place cleared out a bit....for the housecleaner...and for Daryan, the tornado, who arrives tomorrow night, a day early due to funeral arrangements which DS1 and DDIL will attend Saturday while we babysit him. Talk about feeling like we need our ducks lined up! At least with some non-rainy weather on Sat we can spend active time outdoors. I had asked DDIL about any of his favorite toys she was going to bring, and she said that " he really doesn't need anything since when he goes to new places he just gets involved with everything that is there. LOL! DH and I looked around and roared! So I kept several gifts unwrapped to keep his attention on those. We'll see if we need to dismantle everything on our many shelves before he does.
Kid proofing has been so long ago for us... -
Thinking of you Michelle and 3rd your onc.
Hugs to all xxx
-
Michelle - Is that you Jane?? It does look like a cute wig, you say only a little darker. Great they can modify your others. Here's hoping for kicking the c*** out of those lit up lights.
Susan - I made white chicken chili for a party last week. It's not gourmet but it went down GOOD. Off of Cooks.com. I vote for Mexican food. But I second Lacey who says can't you beg off of some of the heavy duty cooking. DB sent us a honey baked ham so guess what we're having??? DD is coming out BUT (and that's a big one) weather is talking tiniest chance of snow. She won't come if any chance. So no thawing of that frozen baby till I know for sure. DH and I couldn't begin to eat it and probably not even close with the 3 of us.
