What are you doing for fun??

Kathy, and a good thought at that! Yesterday I reported my episode to my oncologist, wondering if what I deemed an overreaction to the altitude was due in part to my mets-comprimised lungs. To his infinite credit, he took my question seriously, quickly looked at my chart on my laptop and told me that in addition to the inactive mets I have some COPD ( I smoked earlier in my life; quit 20 years ago) that could have exacerbated the situation. I guess I knew this from my last trips to the pulmonologist, but since I'm not taking regular meds for it, it slipped my mind. Besides, who at Stage IV wants to think they have anything else wrong with them?! Anyway, he said I should not take beautiful New Mexico or anywhere else off my travel list because he can prescribe something to prevent altititude sickness next time. How practical and life-affirming! I am liking this guy more and more.

I like your onc, too!

Take a short cruise 2-3-4 or even 5 day is awesome. The year I was first diagnoised I took 5 cruises with my daughter and my Mom. Each time I would feel down and think this maybe the end of my life I'd plan a cruise. I looked forward to the travel, shopping for new outfits, just being excited and looking forward to my adventures. On the ship you can find a quite spot on the deck in or out of the sun. All the wonderful food to eat, even room service. Great nitely entertainment. Everyday you wakeup in a different place! That was in 1993 and I still take a yearly cruise now with my grandkids! I'm stage IV Bone Mets but always up to a cruise!
-
Such an inspiring story, nanaskids. Have you been Stage IV since 1993?
-
Hey Tina,
That is good news.
I had a nice day today. Took my dear friend and her daughter out for crepes, forgot how delicious a crepe can be. Just getting out made such a change in my attitude. Nothing like being with a good friend and just enjoying an afternoon.
Well, its a start. St Croix would be a little nicer
But I did love the afternoon
-
Hey, Kathy, here it is nearly 1:45 in the morning and I'm online. You're making me hungry talking about crepes! I had a lovely evening having dinner with a kid who wanted my advice about his career. Made me feel young...until I realized I was clearly the oldest person on the subway car going back to my parking lot!
Ah well, to heck with that. No one moved to give me a seat so I guess I looked pretty good! (That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.)

Well, sadly decided that a pony for my gs for Christmas is beyond my energy level this year, since I would have to take care of it, went out and did some Christmas shopping for him today. Got him a smart cycle which is a game you hook up to the t.v but you have to pedal to play it-it stops when he stops, spider-man gear (his hero) a glow in the dark pirate outfit from this funky little store at the beach and a few other little odds and ends. It really was so much fun. Im going to have a hard time not buying everything I see. He is almost three this year so its the first year he really understands what its all about. All I can say is thank goodness for my 1 credit card I kept....
-
Tina,
I'm lying on my couch thinking of crepes filled with chocolate and topped with butter pecan ice cream and whipped cream....oh yes, a cup of mocha too!
-
Yum! Chocolate filled crepes...
Christmas week is upon us, and I have decided to de-stress my normally crazy Christmas. I'm not cooking anything, except for at my house. I'm ordering everything pre-cooked to take other places. I did make candy, but only because I enjoy it. I have learned to use the word "no" pretty well. And, as always, Christmas Day is pajama day. Everyone stays in their pjs. We eat finger foods. We play. And we don't leave the house.

Sounds like fun, Lana!

My Mid-week Fun Report:
The weather is so mild that I weeded the front garden this morning! I moved very slooowly and my back hurt like youknowwhat, but it was worth it. And, yes, certainly fun in its way.
We're seeing the U.S. premiere of a new play from the Middle East tonight. Exciting.
Tomorrow is my birthday. To celebrate, we're going out with friends for dinner on Capitol Hill followed by a concert of 14th century Christmas music at the exquisite Folger Shakespeare Library theater.
Thus endeth my report. Must get back to work.
Tina
P.S. I must stop reading this thread when I'm hungry!
-
Happy Birthday Tina!

The 14th century Christmas music sounds wonderful Tina! Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday, Tina!

How about a bathtub squirt gun fight with my three yr old grandson? Him in the tub..me on the outside. I was winning until I realized I really don't feel good so lay down on the floor and closed my eyes and then he doused me with a whole bucket of water!
-
LOL! Gotta love that little boy.So funny, even if you did get soaking wet.

Oooooh, aren't those grandkids special!!! Mine will be here Friday, along with their parents, to spend the night and see what Santa is bringing to Nana's. I can't wait.
-
Jill, how fun .... And I bet you got your bathroom floor cleaned, too!!
-
Happy Birthday, Tina! I wish I were living in DC!
You guys also have me wishing for grandkids, but DD is only 12.
-
The concert was gorgeous. The musicians played instruments like the medieval fiddle, sackbut, recorder, psaltery and bagpipe. The trio of singers sounded angelic. It was a perfect thing to do on a birthday evening at Christmastime.
Jill, your grandson became worried when her saw your eyes were closed and was simply attempting to revive you. It worked, didn't it?!
Tina

Glad your concert was so good, it sounds like you had a good time. Speaking of gs, I went shopping for dd christmas presents the other day, and was watching my gs for her while she tried on shoes. He promised to hold my hand (yeah, right), the minute we got in there he took off down the rows of shoes. Now I am not moving very fast these days, he's 3 and runs like the wind. He had the best time running from Grammy. I had to hide behind a post and catch him as he ran by.
-
Tina, I'm so happy you enjoyed the concert. Sounds amazing actually! Glad you had that happy birthday
Jill, sounds certifiable! Thats how grandkids are though. Aren't they great
Marywh, he sounds like a magnificent handful!
Tomorrow, my grandaughter and her mom ( my daughter) are arriving. I cannot wait! My other daughter is joining us on Saturday for cookie baking day. Can't wait.
We have the prettiest snow right now, its soft and white and not that cold. Just a perfect holiday storm.
Hope everyone is enjoying these holidays
-
I love the holidays. Decorated sugar cookies with my 8 year old grandson last week and this Sunday will do them with the 5 year old granddaughter. She's a handful and needs one on one attention or their will be frosting on my ceilings!! It is a tradition that they dearly love and I must admit, so do I. I like a little snow but can do without blizzards!!
-
Playing, bathing, cookie-baking...ah, I wish I had grandkids, but I forgot to have children!
Tina

Loved raising my children but having a grandchild is the best. Way better than being the mother. Lots of fun, minimal responsibility for the tough stuff. I was babysitting for my granddaughter last night. She is such a doll. Loved putting her to bed and even comforting her when she woke up at one point. Best of all when my dd and SIL came home, I got to go to my quiet home. Being a grandmother is all of the fun parts. Woo hoo!

My family just left. It was wonderful to have them here. We ate too much, hugged alot, went out to a beautiful place last night just to sit and talk. They bought too many gifts, so did I, but we wanted this one to be really special.
Now, I guess I need to start on a new "fun" kind of thought.
-
Soleil-hope all is going as planned and your move is not too hard on you. Im jealous of you and your warm sunny weather and hope everything goes well.Thinking of you as moving day gets nearer. Best wishes to you.
-
Having chemo tomorrow then heading to chincoteague VA on Thursday to meet DH's brother and SIL. They're on their way south from upstate new York and will spend a few days with us. I look forward to a little downtime after the hustle of Christmas. Love walking the beach in the winter so hoping for mild weather.
-
Today is my birthday and I'm going out to dinner with my sweetie to a restaurant where you can watch the planes land and take off. I'm looking forward to it and so happy that I made it another year.
-
Happy Birthday RangerMom. I wish you many more!
