Dear Recipient:
You have heard me lecture before on cancer and am updating you on our latest peer reviewed research and publications. I appreciate your interest in our research with fermented soybean beverages for the prevention and treatment of cancer and other chronic diseases. The information you are receiving will give you a basic concept of our science and achievements.
In order to recognize our scientific advancements we must first recognize the term "cancer stem cells", their origin, the fact that neither chemotherapy or radiation kill cancer stem cells and the fact that our fermented soy does kill cancer stem cells. This is shown in the attached peer reviewed article dealing with treatment resistant cancers and "survival".
1. In any tumor, 99.1% to 99.9% of the cells in the original tumor are non-malignant cancer cells. These do not hurt people unless space is limited, like in the brain, and they can't spread to vital organs.
2. In any tumor .1% (1/10th) of one percent to not more than .9% (9/10ths) of one percent of the original tumor cells are cancer stem cells. These are the ones thak kill people. 3. Chemotherapy and radiation do not kill cancer stem cells, they only selectively kill the non-malignant cells in the tumor. In addition, chemotherapy blocks cell differentiation and increases the numbers of cancer stem cells that are treatment resistant with conventional chemotherapy and/or radiation treatments. This is why the death rate from metastatic cancer has not dropped in the last 30 years. This was published in CANCER RESEARCH in 2006 and confirmed by Dr.Max Wicha University of Michigan stem cell expert on the following u-tube link:

With regards to your inquiry regarding some of the aspects of the Haelan fermented soy that has been used by cancer patients for more than 20 years in the United States for cachexia and its anti-cancer benefits I have summarized some of the research in this overview and have it available as "electronic Adobe PDF files", which are attached to an e-mail I sent to you.
This is a small portion of the research in our files but the attachments show both safety and efficacy in sole therapy applications and in its use with chemotherapy to reduce cachexia which is shown in the peer reviewed multi-center hospital study attached (# 9003). The fermented soy does not reduce the effectiveness of chemotherapy or radiation treatments. It shuts off the mutation pathway (NF-Kb) 100% and is reported to increase cancer cell kill as much as 8-10 times greater than chemotherapy by itself on "treatment resistant" cancers. This is in conformity with the "survival" charts shown on page 464 in the "Treatment Resistant" breast, ovarian and prostate cancer study published in the attached study (#9001). The comparison to Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) on breast cancer in the attached Townsend Letter article, #9200(a) and 9200(b), shows approximately 500% superiority over the Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) in increasing the cancer cell's pro-apoptotic gene expression ( BAX) and a 50% reduction in the anti-apoptotic gene expressions.(Bcl2).
Because our research involves a complex nutritional product that falls in the "food" category the FDA does not allow disease claims or advertisements for products without extensive expensive clinical studies to establish safety and efficacy. Therefore, the fermented soy has not had the exposure it should have. In addition, most people believe soy phytoestrogens are estrogens, make cancers grow quicker and increase feminine characteristics in men. Studies show none of this is true. In this area I would like to point out the fact that a highly successful PTSD study using Haelan showed the Haelan soy formulation doubled the testosterone levels of young Elite NATO military soldiers suffering from PTSD, which brought them up to normal testosterone levels. Soy phytoestrogens are not estrogenic and are in fact anti-estrogenic. In addition, they have very effective anti-cancer properties and many beneficial mechanisms of action for the cancer patient which is shown in the information attached to this e-mail. I have attached two articles I wrote to clarify misconceptions about soy. The management of estrogens, estrogen receptors, estrogen metabolism and cellular immunity are important in the treatment of cancers because it improves treatment #9001) . In addition, everyone needs to recognize that all soy products are not created equal. This is clearly shown in the comparison between Haelan and pharmaceutical company soy products shown in my attached article. (See # 9100 )The Haelan fermented soy product has many anti-cancer mechanisms of action and an overall efficacy that is competitive to chemotherapy treatments in sole therapy applications. (#9200-a and #9200-b ) In addition, when used in combination with chemotherapy the product enhances the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatments because it has an improved Bcl2/Bax ratio, lower multi-drug resistance (#9200-a & #9200-b), shuts off the NF-kB mutation pathway of the cancer cells, has anti-angiogenic properties (#9250) and overcomes treatment resistant of cancer stem cells by causing cell differentiation and pro-apoptotic gene expressions within those cells. (#9000 & #9001) ) The decreased changes in the Bcl2/BAX ratio, which is a surrogate marker for NF-kB, for Haelan is as follows:
Breast cancer BT474 -94%
Prostate cancer, LNCaP -52%
Liver Cancer, HepG2 -64%
Colorectal Cancer, SW480 -52%
The Bcl2/BAX ratio from human cancer patients' circulating tumor cells was as follows:
Breast Cancer -20%
Prostate Cancer -94%
Ovarian Cancer -80%
The data stated above is shown in the following publications attached for your review:
1) a case report from the Harvard Medical School recommending clinical studies with the Haelan fermented soy for "Platinum Resistant Ovarian Cancer". This case study was paid for by the National Cancer Institute in the United States. (Item # 9300)
2) Two peer reviewed articles published giving data on apilot trial performed in Germany on "treatment resistant" breast, ovarian and prostate cancers (Items #9000 & #9001). This information includes long term results (4 years) patient survival data after the end of the study. (Item 9001)
3) A multicenter trial, placebo controlled, with 270 patients suffering from various types of cancers.(Item #9003)
In summary, the following research achievements have been published:

Most important Findings
The Haelan fermented soy product shows identical results in
a) several clinical trials
b) in several continents and in
c) different races
Excellent pharmaceutical control of manufacturing and quality control
The important thing to recognize is that the Haelan fermented soy technology has the ability to overcome cancer stem cell resistance and produce impressive patient results on glioblastomas, cholangiocarcinoma and some other tough cancers where it always improve the quality of life, lengthen life spans and often produce cancer free patients when the results with conventional chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment results have been poor.
Very truly yours,
HAELAN RESEARCH FOUNDATION

That is great that his product doubles testosterone in men. However, as far as I know, in women testosterone is metabolized into estrogen. Also, in 20 years they were not able to put some research together to get FDA approval for their disesase fighting claims? It seems that most of the studies cited looked at the soy product in connection with cachexia, rather than the actual cancer.

Hi Momine, seems research discusses cachexia, but also immunity, and treatment of resistant cancer, namely stem cells, as it pertains to quality of life and long term survival. i've been reading things about the benefits of soy genistein for breast cancer from different sources for some time. Here's a link listing other citings of Haleans research. I'll also include a couple of articles unrelated to his research. I personally have no knowledge if genestien/fermented soy can or "has the ability to overcome cancer stem cell resitance" "prolong survival" or "improve quality of life" for breast cancer patients. That's why I keep reading. But with scientific backing from many different sources out there, that claim that femented soy is actually "anti-estrogenic" in its mechanisms, for me, it is reasonable and responsible to keep taking another look, to find out if it might be something that could help me. Just thought I'd share, in case others are interested.

I understand, but the info as given is not logical. His "proof" that the fermented soy is not estrogonic is that it raises testosterone in men.
Here is an excerpt from a body builder site about raised testosterone:
"Basically, when you take anabolic steroids, you boost your testosterone levels. This comes at a price though, as some of the excess testosterone aromatizes, or converts, to estrogen." http://www.hotbodytraining.com/the-truth-about-soy-and-flax/
Women also convert testosterone to estrogen.
There may be other reasons why this is a good product, but the news letter you posted does not make its case.
-
Yeah I see your point about the testosterone, and I don't exactly understand the mechanism by which this fermented soy helps breast cancer, given the hormone connection, even though it is described in the article. I would like to have a better understanding of what that means and what makes fermented soy "anti-estrogenic" and useful for treating cancer, specifically breast cancer. I will keep reading but seems, to me, there is growing evidence that I might be on to something that could help me. Considering the hormone issue, I think its reasonable to be cautous, but I'm not willing to allow previous conceptions to blind me from new evidence that could help me.
-
Yes, I agree that the available info is difficult to interpret, not just with this product, but in general about phyto-estrogens. All that struck me was that in the news release you posted, the author seemed to use the fact that the product raised testosterone in men as proof that it was not estrogenic. That is not proof, and also makes me question the knowledge of the person writing.
I had posted on another thread that the Danes have just funded a large study to investigate the role of phytoestrogens in breast and other cancers. So hopefully this will eventually be better understood.
-
Momine, which thread was it that you had posted about the Danes study? did it say how long the research might take to complete?

Light, I don't remember, sorry. But it basically announced a big grant to investigate the role of lignans in breast cancer (and also colon cancer, I think).
