Gonna check in and it's been a while but I went to the wt. doc today... loss of 14 lbs in a month current wt.... 170.8
Drinking water with lemon in for several days and going to try and keep it up. Finally getting over the flu this week.
-
RoadRunner checking in:
Friday Check in = 1 points, cause I'm a day late
Weight 221# = 2 points
Water = 6 points
Exercised = 2 points
Extra Credit-got my flu immunization this week. Paid $26 to get the nasal spray and avoided a needle! Still cheaper than an appointment for one! 1 point
Total = 12 points
I've noticed something odd, have been noticing it for some time now, actually. I weigh myself in the morning, same pjs on, before breakfast. When I get weighed at the doctor's office later in the day, fully dressed, after eating, the scale almost always reads several pounds lighter. This week the scale said 221, the office scale said 217#. Why is this? Not that I'm complaining, but I am curious.
-
NM that is really strange maybe your scales at home are a few pounds off or do you use digital scales? very good question as usually your wt. tends to go up at the dr. office especially later in the day.
-
NM, I always weigh a pound or 2 more at my doc's office than at home.
Figured it was the clothing and the food & water I consumed that day.
But yeah unless it's your scale, I'm stumped on the weighing less part.
-
Mimi, I started your water with lemon idea yesterday. It was a great change and I drank plenty.
NM, sounds like your scale might be calibrated wrong. I'm always more at the docs office, too. One time I thought I was getting shorter (by 1/2 an inch and then 1/2 an inch the next year at my gyn visits) I figured I was shrinking like my mom has. Then they moved to a new office and I was back to my regular height! The nurse said the equipment at the old office was getting old and broken. That was a good day!
Friday ~ zip
wt ~ 172 ~ zip
exercise ~ a measly 3 ~ does putting the tree up count?
water ~ 5
Extra Credit 1 point ~ Flexible Sigmoidoscopy (lower colonoscopy)
Great news, they took 6 biopsies from the area where cancer was found a year ago and they were all benign! YAY! Another good day.
-
Hooray for B9 results! My bathroom scale IS a digital, battery operated scale, so it's probably off kilter, that's no doubt the explanation. I can still tell if I'm losing or gaining, though, so it's doing it's job well enough. It's just so odd to weigh more at home than at the doc's office! Just one of the little mysteries of life, I guess.
And yes, putting up a tree does count as exercise!
-

Okay, I'm not too upset with a 1# gain during this time of the year. That could be just water fluctuation, right? Eating out more, eating more salty stuff. Trying to keep up with the water and getting some more exercise. I'm not going to give up sweets that I love, but I am trying to not go overboard. Progress in baby steps!
-
Wow zogo you lost 2 lbs during Dec. my hats off to you. I have been dieting and haven't lost a lb this month. Well I actually did and gained it back so it appears. Eat well during the holidays friends.
-
Merry Christmas, everyone. I haven't stepped on the scale in quite awhile. New year, new resolution. Gotta get the weight down.
-
Oh no Mimi, I'm not down anymore! Between christmas eve, christmas, and then my DD's 18th birthday, I know I've gained at least 4 lbs. And yes, Bookart, new years is going to have to be some serious resolution making!
Happy Holidays to all my dear E-lab friends!

Water = 6 points
Exercised = 0 points
Extra Credit--got the 2# I gained during Christmas off by Friday! = 1 point
Total = 10 points
Time to get serious about this nutrition and good eating and exercising thing again.
-
NM I want to know how you got the 2# you gained during Christmas off by Friday? I have been going to the weight Dr. and I'm taking Adipex. For the last 1/2 of Dec. I have been stuck at 162 lbs without clothes and with clothes I am at 163.5. I just can't get it off. I think I have kinda plateaued right here and I gotta busta move to get my metabolism reved up again. That first 25 lbs fell off so easy but now not so much. This is where I always get disgusted and give in. Ugh!! I can't quit even if I only lose 2-3 lbs a month I have to stay with this thing. My goal is to get to between 136-145 lbs. I'm setting short obtainable goals. I wanted to be at 159 lbs by the end of Dec. I am 3 lbs away from my goal. Well with no clothes on I am. With clothes I am about 4 lbs away. Being we have 4 days till Jan. 1 I really don't think I'm going to reach my goal. Wish by some miraculous trick of nature I would.
By the way I saw Dr. Oz yesterday (I think it was) and he disputed the myth that drinking a lot of water helped you lose weight. Go to his website and see exactly what he said about it and drinking excessive coffee. But basically neither one helps with losing weight according to him. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
-
Mim--I gain the 2 # eating out and eating at my Mom's where the food has a lot more salt than I usually eat. So the weight gain was mostly water, and I got rid of it by drinking extra water over the last few days of the week and paying particular attention to sodium and salt. Taking weight off is a lifelong struggle of mine, so I set my goals very, very small. One or two pounds at a time. Next goal is to get to 222# on a weigh in Friday. Of course, If I didn't wheigh myself every day it would probably help my obsession. . . .
-
hi all, just back from vacation where I had a wonderful time visiting with family.
Nice to walk every morning but it's just not Christmas when it's 80 degrees outside!
Read a fascinating book by William Davis, MD - "Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight".
Mom subscribes to Prevention magazine and she got it through them.
(zogo, have you heard of him? He practices preventive cardiology in Milwaukee.)
After I read the first few chapters, I drastically reduced the amount of wheat I ate.
Don't know if it's cause & effect but I'm at 169.2 - YAY - finally broke the plateau.
Now to keep it up (or down, as the case may be).
Wishing you all a healthy and Happy New Year!
-
Badger, of course I know of Dr Davis. I have been eating low carb for 1 1/2 years. Then I got to hear him speak at a seminar last summer. He just confirmed everything I believe in as my way of eating. I could go on and on...
Did you know 2 slices of wheat bread are higher on the glycemic index than a snickers bar or table sugar?
Then when my GP doctor found my cholesterol high and tried to put me on statins, I attempted to get in with Dr Davis. Unfortunately, his is no longer taking new patients. I did find a great "Lipidologist" in Delafield, however.
Glad you had a nice holiday in the sunshine. Looks like we are in for the deep freeze!
-
hey, zogo, this is the doc you were talking about last year, right? D'oh! You put up a link to a lecture which was very interesting but apparently the book sunk in better.
For a while, I thought I might be gluten-intolerant so really watched what I ate but changed my mind and my diet post-appendectomy.
The stuff he was saying about the "new" wheat was amazing. I am definitely going to change the way I eat. Want to post yummy low-carb recipes here or is there another thread for that?
-
Hey everyone very excited! Weighed in this morning and my weight is down to 160 lbs. I actually put on a pr. of size 12 pants I haven't been able to wear in about 2 yrs. Doing a happy dance.
I just wanted to share my good news with you ladies. I still have quiet a way to go to reach my goal, but I'm on my way. I'm just going to keep taking it one day at a time and I've realized this will be a life long battle for me... it always has been. I have to watch what I eat! My favs only have a little but not deny myself when the urge really hits, otherwise I will overeat. I may not reach my goal till this time next year but I do have a goal with no time limit to reach it.
-
Congrats, Renee, that is GREAT news!
I over-indulged in snacks & football food this past weekend and gained back a few pounds but got back on track the past two days. Will see what the scale says tomorrow morning.....
-
