    Alexandria - glad you worked it out - gorgeous kitty :) I'm sure there's an easier way - can't remember how I worked out how to do it.

    Xiao Mao - little cat in Chinese.  He does indeed climb on my shoulder and drap himself around my neck.  He's probably the most social cat I've ever owned - but he's gotten a little more exclusive as to humans as he's grown older.

    This is Xiao on my shoulder.  Have to tilt your head.  I've figured out how to insert a picture (thanx to Suzie) but not how to turn it (or size it).

    Hi Everyone,

    Love all the pics of the kitties!  But I'm a "dog person."  I need to download a picture of my Maggie and Tank.  I have one of Maggie I can post, but Tank is so wiggly, all the pics of him are blurry.

    Rainy, warm and gloomy here today.  I'm happy though, I got in lots of work today, with word that more will be coming in this week from my new client.  I got so agitated with him last month, as I was working endless hours on each report of his and not getting paid adequately.  I revamped my fee schedule for him to an hourly rate as opposed to by the report.  I'm much happier now!

    This is Maggie ... she's a border collie mix.

    I'm so excited ... I figured out how to make the picture smaller.  Yahoo!

    Bren :  Maggie looks like a sweetie. I love dogs too.  Had German Shepherds for 29 years, the last one died a year ago last September.  I haven't had the heart to get another.  They're also more expensive and a lot more work intensive than cats.

    Maggie is cute. I have to agree about dogs though - we had a german shepherd scotch collie cross for 11 years. She was lovely, but so hard if you want to go away - all of the boarding kennels are way outside the city, whereas I just have to drive Poppy a short distance to the vet who takes boarders. I remember trying to lift a 60 lb dog into the car and handling 2 toddlers as well.

    Susie .. you're right ... having dogs does make travel difficult.  Tim and I haven't traveled together in the last six years.  He always has to stay home when I go somewhere.

    We have hired a house sitter to take care of our yorkie, and home, for the first time ever. It is someone who works at the vet we've been going to for 10 years and I completely trust her. I just can't board my 15 year old doggie again. She needs to be in her home with somebody she knows.

    We hired a local pet sitter for our three pugs for the cruise. It was costly but they were home and safe. Just lonely for us.

    I used pet sitters for trips when I had dogs, too.  (Still do - cats eat only wet food.)  The bigger problem for me was that the dogs need to be exercised - and the German Sherpherds were a little too strong for me - and the making sure we were home by five or so to let them out.  Cats aren't pleased if they have to wait a few hours for dinner - but they at least have their litter boxes.

    I travelled back in 2010 and my kitty then, Imp, needed daily medication, so I hired my niece to come daily. I paid as much as I would have paid a sitter. He was not happy I was gone 2 weeks, but it helped that he knew my niece and her Mom. He still twisted the guilt knife when I got home, of course, hiding under the bed making these pathetic little mews that I interpreted as "Can it really be Mom home, finally? I'm afraid to believe it's true." I had to lay on the floor and coax him out, and then he wouldn't let me leave the room without following for about a week. "Kids"!

    I had one cat- Mozart, who died two years ago - whom I loved dearly, but if we left him at home with a sitter and went on vacation, he would poop on every one of our beds.  He did grow out of it, after a while, and we did learn not to leave our doors open, but I agree that cats are vengeful.

    When my son was an infant I was sitting and rocking. I think I may have abruptly shooed my then mixed peke doggie away. Well he slithers back over and lifted his leg right on my foot.



    Accident? Not on your life. Resented the newcomer.

    My two cats are angels.  If they have a tendency to throw up on the rug while I'm gone, I'm sure it's because their little tummies are bothering them, not because they're vengeful.

    I got my official White House Christmas card today, and it shows Bo with a white scarf around his neck standing in the snow, one paw outstretched, looking up expectantly.  So cute!  All I could think of was, OMG, Barack and Michelle like to share pictures of their adorable pets, just like us.

    I've left my 2 cats a lot...for work, for weeks at a time and for BC (for weeks at a time).  I made a deal with my neighbor (a cat lover), if I got cats, he would be there for me and he has been (I still pay him well).  Cats are more attached to their geography than their owners.  If I sent Emma to a "cattery," miss stressed-out would surely come home with herpes.  I had to move out for a week while I had wood floors installed and it took about 2 days for them to adjust to the new house....I was surprised which one had the harder time.

    btw, they never treat me with anything but cat love when I come home...I figure this is how I know they had good care...."bye mom, have a good time!"

    Fun seeing everyone's animals and hearing about all the traveling (past and future!)

    Was just catching up reading some newspapers and it's good to see good news in the U.S.--gas prices are decreasing and the unemployment rate is the lowest it's been in four years! 

    Lewing, cool that you got a Christmas card from the Obamas.  I saw a pic of it earlier today.  Very sweet:

    We have a lady who takes our dogs when needed. She lives in a house with a huge garden and has a son who loves to play with them. She also comes and picks them up and drops them off when we get home. They love going there. When she pulls up they line up to jump in the back seat, where they neatly sit in a row.

    On an international politics note (hopefully I am bipartisan in this, though you never know....) very dismaying that Silvio Berlusconi could come back to power in Italy. Ugh!

    Lewing, I got my card too and loved Bo's little bitty paw print signature, but it was the sure tip-off that I was not the lucky recipient of a hand signed card.

    Well at least Bo's paw prints can be compared to whatever the FBI has on the Obamas - we want to make sure Bo is a citizen, after all. No illegals posing in front of our White House!
