Gosh I need retail therapy but NO WAY can I keep up with you gals. Just quit my job (age 60 so no retirement yet) so my only retail therapy looks to be resale/thrift/Goodwill. But on that note I did snag a heck of a deal at my favorite thrift store couple of weeks back. Lands End Barn Coat, dark red canvas type with black collar/cuffs. To cleaners yesterday. Think is cost $7 and about the same for cleaners. Yes, I live in the country so it will fit in nicely. Love black anyway, red too but don't have much of it. Should look good with jeans, I hope. And with the non-winter we've had so far here in N. Texas I may get good use of it though much colder next week.

Anyone buy any good dress black pants, think old lady polyester kind? Need those and would pay somewhat close to retail. About size 14-16. Though its usually just jeans (and just one pair at time till I wear it out) or loungy type things. Dress up for church. My wardrobe has been scrubs for 5 years so neglected what I call play clothes.

Living vicariously through your purchases. Need a new black purse but can't afford the leather ones and don't like imitation. Just keep having DH clean up my old one.

Luvmygoats. Your new coat sounds perfect! I like reuse, recycle as a philosophy and a life choice. IMHO there is rarely any reason to wear anything but jeans. (I am also 60 and semi retired.) Ok, so I have my good jeans, darker in colour, and black jeans. But they take a long cycle before they are relegated to the thrift store (they make money recycling fibre). But oh I love shoes! Don't buy as many as I used to, but I still love hearing about other people's shoe moments. Raised two shoe people and thus far they are raising two more :-)

Kay - I find shoes the hardest thing to buy (well it would be a swimsuit too but no need for that!).  Don't know why it's so hard, normal size 8-8 1/2 foot.  Tennies/walking/athletic I can go buy just about any pair of New Balance.  But good black church dress shoes sensible heels (what my grandmother used to wear Cobbies) I just can't find and price only figures a little in it.  And I live in the Ft. Worth area, not really the boonies.  Famous Footwear, DSW, Macys, Dillards (both pricey!).  I do have the hots to shop but have lots to do next week when I go to town:  MO, really important get my last paycheck, pick up party stuff for Sat.  Need something to wear to that party with my jeans.  Have bean teased about my Christmas T shirts/sweaters.  I guess I really need some black jeans, too.

The north part of town has an upscale Goodwill. Went to that area plenty to see patients but 'course no time to shop.  And unfortunately not anywhere near where office and MO are. Must remember to get cash for the thrift stores.

Well - see Cobbies are at K Mart.  No K Marts in Texas anymore BOOHOO.

When I was first diagnosed my shopping consisted of looking for clothing I could wear comfortably at home while the healing process was going on. I was remember walking through the stores feeling depressed looking at the cute outfits I wouldn't be able to wear for a long time :(   Well I'm here to tell you after less than 4 weeks out my debit card is starting to see some action again. Got to find some new things to show off my new boobs & tummy tuck!

Shopping resale shops really affects how one shops the department stores, even the big sales can't compete. Still, it helps you know what is "in" and what the retail prices are. Seems like every time I break down and pay a big price (even on sale) for something, it shows up in my local thrift shop for a fraction of the price.

I went to a garage sale around the corner a couple weeks ago. The woman had mostly clothes in like new condition. Must have been fifty pairs of jeans! Everything was $1.00! I bought four pair and they all fit perfectly. Wishing I had spent a little longer picking through everything.

During my active breast cancer treatment I lost a lot of weight. So had need and excuses to buy a whole new wardrobe. Now that I am feeling better, three years later, I am gaining back up to a more normal weight. So having to get rid of some of my skinny clothes now after getting rid of my fat clothes back then. Hope I can level off and not regret giving away those larger sized things. I get very attached to clothes. My daughter loves to say, "Mom, that is so seventies!" I take it as a compliment although I know she does not mean it as one. :)

OH attached to clothes. Me too. Lived here 14 years and I had on a T shirt yesterday that I had when we moved; wore it to church so still presentable. I tend not to wear things out and take pretty good care of them. Need to lose weight. Put some things in storage boxes under the bed I can maybe get back into. Hopefully will get my arse moving more. Have to clean out this house. Had minimal attention the last 5 years. Piles of stuff.

Speaking of the comfy clothing during tx. I have on my button up the front (required, right??) flannel shirt on right now. I think it's the one I wore home from surgery.

Peg - Congrats on the healing process.

    Peg like that whole scenario.

I hate to admit it, but I still wear lots of my comfy clothes--I really had to retire and don't always feel well so It's easier to just wear my comfies that I love ordering especially in the winter, cuz I like loungers so if someone comes over I'm not in PJ's--I wait for sales and get rhe nicest ones I can so it looks OK. And alot of my regular clothes still have tags on--I don't remember buying them hahaha

Don't get the wrong idea ladies I still spend more time in my comfy clothes than I do getting dressed up to go somewhere. As a matter of fact I'm still sitting here in my PJ's trying to get in the shower to get to Wal Mart to buy some comfy cotton underwear.

luvmygoats - DH and I are avid thrift store shoppers. You never know when you'll find a treasure.

Whenever we travel, I always look up the thrift and consignment stores in the area. If it's in a ritzy place, so much the better.

A few years ago, we were over on the coast, in a Salvation Army store, when I came across a brand-new-with-tags white angora sweater coat with gorgeous beading. It was lined with satin, absolutely beautiful, and had never been worn.

It retailed for almost $200; the store had it marked at $30, and that day all sweaters were 50% off. So home I went with my treasure for only $15!

You mentioned polyester pants - here's a site with lots of pants, many of which are on sale.

Blessings I love angora altho I don't have anything angora--but I think that it is so feminine. What a buy u got. That's how I like to shop--I always go to cleance items and on sale with a % off and free shipping.or 1cent shipping. I'm so proud of myself when I can do that--it actuakly takes alot of time this time of year, so it keeps me busy--no one believes how much effort I use to find these things but everyone usually loves what they get. So it makes me so happy.

Oh I probably told u guys but I'm repeating it anyway LOL

Tom. night the kids are having a Christmas party for some famil-(in-laws) and friend too so they are all excited. But it means I will be forced to incacoon myself and take a shower and put actual clothes on--Now I do have a couple of caftans that are pretty and I could wear that or I could wear something Christmasy so the choice is mine but whatever I wear I do have cute Christmas earrings to spice me up. (if that's possible)

Camille - Love "uncocoon" and yes I lurk on the "Hermit Club". Caftan OK so long as you don't need to go out. Might be little chilly. I need a jewel toned sweater or something like that. Could do dual duty with black skirt for church. And I LOVE cardigan sweaters, black again. So hard to find with some weight to them. Despite my thrift store coat purchase I hardly wear coats. Texas is just not coat weather most years. Its 72 degrees now. Mostly just keep coat in the car in case of car trouble. So I like me some cardigans. Sometimes those are easy thrift buys.

I saw some really cute short dresses in the Belk ad that might work as long tunics on this short, squatty body. And have a gift card I have hoarded to use there. We have only 2 of those locally. The closest one doesn't have the stuff that the farthest one has. Same thing with Penneys. One over in the midcities is really big but the one 20 minutes away is new but tiny and not so well stocked. Really like Macy's store brand clothes. I need therapy badddd!

luvmygoats - before I lost my weight, my standard church attire was my stretchy black pants (either from Sears or Walmart) and a different colored top. Black sandals in the summer, and black shoes in the winter.

Y'all are having some warmer weather in Texas!

We don't get all that cold here in California. I have some beautiful long coats, but they are from my working days, and I can't remember the last time I wore them. Mostly it's jackets to wear with jeans.

I just got a cute purple sweater dress at Target - it's short enough I can wear as a tunic over my stretchy "jeggings" Wink and boots.

Every year at Christmas, since my diagnosis, I make sure to include myself on the gift list.  I buy gifts for others and myself as well.  One year I bought a nice cushy la-z-boy recliner that I had been wanting.  Quite expensive.  This year I 'toned' it down a bit and bought myself the Keurig Platinum Coffee Maker I had been eyeing for a while.  I love it!  No more wasted half pots of coffee down the drain and each cup is as good as the first.  Now I make myself a wonderful cup of coffee and go sit in my cush recliner.  I'm in love.....!

1Athena1 - normally, I don't go in for designer collection/runway shows...I'm too busy rolling my eyeballs at the absurdity of some of the designs. But these were.....STUNNING! And the show itself was somehow mesmerizing.

As for the heavy woolens, it looked like some in the audience WISHED they had on those heavy caps and scarves and jackets!

    Thanks for posting this!

Scottiee1 - you say this was in Edinburgh? Where?

    Cami

I got the javajig at Walmart (about $10) so I can use my own coffee.  The donut shop k-cups are yummy but I can't afford those everyday.  The javajig has a plastic cup with thow away paper filters so you can use your own coffee.

Camillegal and AlwaysHope, Keurig makes an adaptor so you can use your own coffee.  You don't have to deal with paper filters.  I have one and it works great.
