IMHO this is not our problem. We have been humming along having nice conversations and should just continue to do so. My only complaint about the moderation back in the old days was that they did not jump in when things started to go bad and put out the fire before it exploded. I'm not inclined to give them a hard time now when they are trying to do just that.
Good work Kam! Is the buyout just within your agency? They are going to get a lot of grief over that 4 day window.
-
I gotta agree with you, WR. And I just thought better of a whole 'nother paragraph on that topic.
-
RR ... my DH is probably going to be having that surgery after the first of the year. Although not the most extensive form of it from what he says they said. Hope yours recovers quickly and that it works for him.
-
Right on, WR! I can think of several threads that I never, EVER visit, because I know I won't agree with what's being posted. Many have previously suggested (along with the Mods, of course) that we ignore those threads. Who needs the stress? It's good advice, best taken!
-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1DFRj1KslQHere's another fractured fairytale....I loved them as the kid. It was fun to see a modern day version....no need to look if you don't enjoy the flavor. Funny, I could have sworn Ed Asner was the same voice, but the original voice is slightly different. These tales always had a message.....

-
Still trying to properly wake up this morning...

-
Mary - they kept that post. They removed one I posted after that. I have this annoying habit of thinking too far in the future and wondering, if the other thread died by attrition, whether we would go back to the old days when this one thread had to accommodate two irreconcilable views of the world, which we know would not be feasible. So, WR, it ain't our business right now, but it could be in the future. Either that or I'm being paranoid (which would not surprise me).
And soteria - lol! You are not the first one to say the mods are having a bad day. Don't know if it's true or not, but they are certainly having an inconsistent one.
I think I'll keep yawning - that's one way to keep my big mouth "shut" if you will.

Off to drink coffee.
Good luck to our soon to be retirees!
-
Soteria....wishing you well. You are showing great spunk and attitude. I'd post next door but not sure anymore what to do.

Wow....just wow !!!! I go away for awhile ( maybe I shouldn't do that anymore ) and come back to find so much. I do read often next door. Ok, it may be a bad habit, but despite our sometimes huge viewpoints about things....we all came together for a reason.
Anyway, it does seem that we just didn't have much going on here in the political sense and sorry that the neighbors felt we had something to do with it. Like most here.....I may feel a stir inside over some of the things I read from time to time over yonder, but felt......it was their thread and I needed to have respect for that first and foremost no matter how much I might diagree. I am terribly guilty of "catty" remarks here though and so have to own up to that.
On a lighter note.....I had looked at poetry to put in here the other day. That being said.....we get awfully fluffy here and I do miss being able to be a little more the real me. Someday......just wish we could be allowed to discuss all concerns....political and non-political alike.
Very light note here. This late afternoon, my daughter and sil should be here ( driving from southern California ) and I am breathless with anticipation. It has been 5 yrs. I am working today and tomorrow as well, but that is ok. We will have plenty of time to catch up.
Hope you are all well and hope to catch up tonight so I don't have so much later.

and something more that I wanted to share but I had to look it up and would have lost my post above so here it is:

I understand that the job of being a moderator can be difficult, and I appreciate that they want to keep things from spinning out of control. We are all here on BCO because we have a common disease. But breast cancer is just that - a disease. We fight it in many forms, and one of the ways most of us fight it is to keep it from defining us - individually and as a group.
We found like-minded women here. Both conservative and liberal. IMHO the moderators need to take a step back and realize that discussion and even disagreement are not bad things. In fact, I would go so far as to say that they are good things, because above all else they are normal. Normalcy is difficult to regain after the life-shattering diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
I think that talking about all things should be acceptable. I'm certain that it's easier for the mods to simply ban political discussion than to get involved in making sure it doesn't get out of hand, but the two main "camps" have really been quite good about not posting derogatory remarks on each others threads. (Catty remarks on our own threads... well, yeah, there has definitely been that). I wasn't here a few years ago, when I understand that things did get rather nasty, but that hasn't been the case this year.
I don't like the feeling of being muzzled.
-
I haven't posted for awhile. Not sure what all went down (maybe I don't want to know lol), but I don't think this kind of acrimony between the two camps is going away any time soon. We reflect a divide within the country, and just happen to have a common thread of cancer in our lives. One would hope this would bring us closer, but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case. I would love to be able to openly discuss politics but the mods have said no. However it seems to be happening surreptitiously anyway. I don't know why there can't just be one or two openly political forums. Even though we have or have had cancer we still live in the real world, for goodness sakes.
-
LOL ... when we get fluffy here on subjects I don't know much about I like it. I just keep my mouth shut and read and learn some stuff. I'm not really into art but enjoyed the pictures and art lessons. I do blame the fact that my Christmas packages aren't wrapped yet on the Henry VIII and his wives discussion. Had been into that in the past and had to spend a few hours with Mr. Google to refresh my memory on who was who.
I vote we just feel free to put our everyday stuff amongst the more serious discussions and run our trains on several tracks at the same time.
Jackie ... happy for you that you will get to enjoy a nice visit with your daughter!
ETA ... re the politics. The Mods are letting both sides make short comments on current events that involve politicians and on issues like Medicare as it involves us personally. Rants get zapped. I can live with that.
-
Here's what I don't like. Getting nasty PM"s from people about things I've posted and the person sending me the nasty PM doesn't even bother to participate publically in the discussion. It hasn't happened in a long time, mostly because I have those people on "ignore" but it used to happen quite frequently. It doesn't anymore.
I think most of us can disagree in a civil way.
Mary
-
Yeah - civility really is the requirement, IMO. I like civil discourse. I truly dislike rudeness.
BTW - the fact that I like freedom of speech about everything doesn't in any way mean that I haven't truly enjoyed the art (and poetry) discussions of late, as I have. I don't want us to just talk about politics, as that gets bbbooooorrrrrriiiiiinnnnnnnggggggg! I just don't like that nagging feeling at the back of my neck that says, "oh, dang it, I can't say that! Someone might think it's political"
OK. nuff belly aching.
Back to vacation planning....

tomorrow I'm going to get a pedicure and meet my step-daughter for coffee. Then I need to complete the laundry, get in touch with the real estate lady, finish packing. Sunday is the finish cleaning day, make some food to take on the plane...
I am soooo excited...

-
gardengumby ... have a wonderful trip! We will be looking for a recap of all the fun you have after you get back. Will cross all fingers and toes that your house sells while you are gone too. I hate having a house on the market ... getting out for the showings is a pain in the patoot.
-
I'll try to take pictures. (I'm abysmal at it, as I always forget to take the camera along...) It would be sooo great if the house sold, but I'm not expecting it. I've got more hope for next summer.
-
Hi Everyone,
Cold, dismal day here today. It's raining off and on too. Typical winter weather ... and I hate it.
I'm a happy camper today as I had three reports come in. Yay! I love my job ... just hope I get more clients after the mailing I sent out earlier this week. With the Dragon Naturally software and more and more psychologists typing their own reports, it's cutting into my work!
Rabbit ... I didn't remember that your house was on the market. You're right .. having to leave for the showings is a pain in the butt. I hope it sells quickly. Where are you moving?
Gumby ... Have a great vacation. I'm so excited for you.
Mary ... I've gotten those kinds of PM's in the past as well. But utilizing the "ignore" function cuts way down on them. I don't have much to say about the Mirror thread or being able to talk about politics. I do wish, though, that we could continue to talk about current events.
I know that the mods have a tough job with these two threads .. but I think we've done a good job of keeping things separate and quite civil.
I need to get back to work .. hope everyone is having a good day.
hugs,
Bren
PS ... I went down to North Carolina yesterday to visit Naniam (Brenda). We spent about two hours decorating her tree together. Had a wonderful visit, but I'm very, very worried about her. She has lost a tremedous amount of weight and seemed pretty damn fragile to me. I love her so much ... I just wish the doctors could find a way to help with the pain and swelling in her leg. She also showed me a spot on her scalp where you could actually feel the bone mets on her skull. That freaked us both out.
-
When we talk art or gardening or politics, we can forget for a moment or two. We can pretend that our sisters aren't faced with bone mets. We can pretend that the day may come when we may be faced with mets. This thread is a treasure to me and, I am sure, to all of us.
Brenda is in my thoughts and heart.

Couples waiting in line in Washington State yesterday to pick up their marriage licence:

-
And here's another couple (so much for stereotypes, eh?):

-
Morning all
I enjoy popping in here, like notself says one can forget for a bit and think about other things in this world. I don't post much especially when its was about US politics because even though it is of interest and does affect things in this country, it is not my country, but I do read and have learnt a great deal.
Feel really sad to hear about Brenda so send big hugs.
Have had an interesting few days here with a tornado hitting an airforce area the west of the city. This is an unusual occurrence for us as big killer ones happen only very few years. We get tropical storms (hurricanes) so it was very unexpected and the weather office initially doubted that it was one because the conditions weren't right. It certainly was and three killed and several injured. The rain that we got was incredible and I actually had to drive in it which wasn't pleasant. Saw the cloud and that was phenominal. Our weather is certainly changing so sometimes do wonder about climate change ( can I say that without getting into trouble?), because we have had some crazy weather here.
Must get dressed - it is Saturday morning here. DH has gone to get his haircut at the Barbers and when he gets back have to go and collect our new kitchen table.
Have a great rest of Friday and weekend and know that when I pop in again I will have a lot to read.
Big hugs.

The bottom couple, according to the story I saw, moved from Texas to Washington state a few years ago because it was more gay-friendly. Good for Washington state! I think it is wonderful! Love is hard to find -- it is good to hold onto to love when you find it!
L -
Bren, my heart and thoughts go out to Naniam and to you. It is very hard when a close friend is very ill.
Lindasa, those pics might shock some but not me. Edited to add: shocked is the wrong word, probably more like surprise. The pics might surprise some - break the stereotype they have in their mind.
DH's grandmother's sister had her soul-mate companion on through to the end. Too bad they didn't have the chance to marry, but I don't know that it bothered them that much as they never considered it possible. Interestingly they were missionaries and adopted twins together.
Fear is the highest fence. ~Dudley Nichols
-
I'm so glad these people can find happiness through their marriage vows!

-
Alyson, wow, that sounds like a scary ride! The weather is definitely changing. Here is Kansas we've hardly had winter for going on two years now.

-
Came back before getting my shower. Love the pictures will show our friends who are coming over for dinner tonight. A lovely couple who are 58 and 66 been together for 30 years. Our children always refer to the as 'The Boys'
DH is back must fly.

Athena & IllinoiseLady~Thank you for your well wishes. I'm grateful.
Gardengumby~I loved your post, that we have common sense and need to be able to be ourselves and voice our opinions even when they differ. We are all fighting the same Beast. We need to not let BC define who we become.
Mods~Do you hear us down here in BC world? We may get a little snarky at times, but we ALL want to be able to voice our opinions, and AGREE to DISAGREE!!!
Blessings

Morning girls. We had a great dinner last night - 7 of us here in Aust. - so great to meet some of our lovely ladies from BCO.

We hear you, and we so truly wish it would work. You are truly welcome to voice opinions. But we've got to leave the politics out (unless related to your healthcare or healthcare policies) .... It always starts fine, but then gets snarky, and then folks start to report each other's posts. We've seen the same pattern for years, and it often ends up in a tangled mess, that takes so much of our time to unravel. Please try and understand.....
