http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5-D0f6nHSQ  For Enjoyful ... we've got your back.  Just let us know if we need to come drag you away.   (((hugs)))

I thought talking about doggies and weddings and trips and all that was already nurturing and positive?  But what do I know ... I chuckled at Kam's house picture as a visual of how houses seem like money pits sometimes when stuff keeps breaking.  Not quite sure I 'get' what the hoopla is.  Don't explain though Tongue Out

Tree up ... most of my shopping done.  Cards are next.  Hubby's Christmas present is supposed to be delivered today.  He's home (drat) and it's a fancy dancy computer chair in a giant box.  I am not going to be able to hide it.  Guess he gets his gift early.  I'm going to keep a big bow on it so he can't whine when Christmas is here and he doesn't have much to open.  Wink

I'm sending the grandkids in Florida several packages over the month of December to be opened upon receipt this year.  Something different to spread it all out a little bit.  Hope they enjoy the surprises.

Now I must go do something productive ... or at least get dressed.  Hope everybody has a most excellent day!

Linda - love love love your story, partly as I can just picture the girls at my Catholic high school doing such (not me ofcourse!).  Speaking of mirrors, I see they are villifying me over there on that thread while claiming their own virture.

RR, that's the name I was trying to put my finger on! Many years ago, as a young mother, ago I bought a book of her art. Love her work. Now I'm going to have to search for that book! Smile

Speaking of living frugally...and Athena is one of my inspirations...I'm being far more vigilent about turning my heat off unless I'm actually home. If it it's in the 40's I try to use my space heaters instead of fuel oil (partly experiment, but I do believe electricity in my parts is cheaper than oil).  I'm starting with a $400 savings in fuel oil, and lopping it off for the amount my electric bill has gone up over baseline (using no heat).  So far I'm at $380 left in the bank!

Oh gawd - I am reading ridiculously slowly, answering GG's question a million years after others have - lol!

Kam - I am your inspiration for living frugally? LOL! I'm glad I have inspired others to do something I am sadly completely unable to accomplish myself. I'm terrible. I could blame spending on my comorbidity (and that would be the truth) but I don't think I am biologically capable of being frugal.

Mirrors don't look outward ... they reflect back.  Best to stay away from them and concentrate on the good things all around us IMO.

Athena - did I confuse you with someone else.  Who doesn't use a dryer and hangs their clothes in the sunshine??  Hey, I'm less than 4 months PFC, though some news program says chemo brain ends with chemo, I'm still claiming.

Blue - what a cute kitten - sure wish I wasn't allergic.  I really love cats, and when I see a video like that I just WANT IT!!!

In regards to the mirror.  It really is much more peaceful staying away.  I used to read there and then I felt they were saying things primarily designed to bother liberals.  I need my peace of mind much more than I need their opinions, so I quit reading there.  What I think they don't understand, though, is that there are more people who post (and read) on BCO who have political opinions different than their own than just us.  (Did that sentence make sense???)  Hopefully you know what I mean.  Anyway, if someone reports a mirror post it isn't necessarily one of us, and if someone reports one of our posts it isn't necessarily them.

    Back to being upbeat...

Sister Mary brought back memories of rolling up our waistband on our pleated, plaid skirts to make them shorter and having to hurriedly unroll them when Sister Aidan pulled us out in the hall for a kneel check. Skirt didn't touch the floor you were in for a lecture and a hem ripper.

Lewing made me think of the Detroit Institute of Arts earlier - which made me think of another painting in their collection that I love, Pieter Bruegel's 'The Wedding Dance':

    The Wedding Dance

Edited to add:  So this is for you Lewing!

    Hey enjoyful

sorry the rads are getting you down.  When I did rads, i used calendula creme from the co-op. --right after treatment, again in the evening and then before going to bed.  It worked WONDERS!!!  I was saved from burning until the very end.  I have also been told that manuka honey is good.

gardengumby thank you for the lovely shots of rainier. . . now I don't have to feel deprived that I can't see it today out my window.

I am in a cheery mood today---the holidays are upon us!  This weekend will mark the start of the mega holiday activities---Holiday light festival in our business district, Christmas boats and a fundraiser auction plus an excellent craft festival and delivering citrus.  Oh and I need to kick off the cookie baking.  I am thinking of making some jammy dodgers.

    Jammydodgers?  'Splain, please!

I'm afraid if Enjoyful spreads manuka honey on her neck, her menagerie (cats, dog, horse) won't leave her alone!!!  Better to use the soothing-sounding calendula cream!

Christmas starts in our town tomorrow with a Candlelight Stroll and musical groups on every street corner. The Parade (1 1/2 hours long -- whew!) is next Saturday.

    Thank you scuttlers!

RR Bruegel is a favorite (although I have LOTS of favorites). I am also a Vermeer fan:

Starting to get flooding here in California....18 inches predicted at Shasta Dam.  Got a small streambead and lake forming outside of my window because of two upstream drains are clogged.  This should be exciting.

Athena, I don't believe the Detroit Institute of Arts has a Vermeer or I'd post it.  Well, I went and checked and they don't.  But if I had been paying attention the painting you posted above was here for four weeks this last summer, missed it.

Enjoyful, I hope the calendula or some other cream works for you.

Kam, I hope the water stops short of you.  Stay safe.

    Good Afternoon Everyone!

It's a sunny cold day today.  My riding mower broke, so I can't mulch leaves.  I'm sad about the mower, but not sad that I don't have to mess with the leaves today.

I haven't heard back about either of the HR jobs I applied for.  So, I've been spending time getting another mailing ready to go out for transcription work.  I'm starting to get really discouraged.

Enjoyful ... I'm sorry that rads have already started to burn you.  I hope they don't hurt your throat and esophagus.  I'm a natural redhead too, and I started burning right away when I did rads.  By the third day, I had little white blisters all over my boob.  I hated rads so much .. sure wish you didn't have to go through this.

Linda ... The parade sounds like a lot of fun.  After seeing how beautiful Niagara on the Lake was in the summer, I can only imagine what a winter wonderland it must be.

    hugs to everyone,

    Bren

PS .. Enjoyful, I used Aquafor on my skin.  It's thick and really greasy so I wouldn't recommend it.  It will also stain your clothes.

Athena ... annoying to the max.  But people who don't actually have breast cancer seem to eat that pinky warrior stuff up like candy.

scuttlers ...   I'm always glad to see you paying us a visit!
