White Rabbit that's a hoot!  I'll be baking cookies this weekend.  You're invited to help....don't forget the tequila.  It has medicinal properties!

Linda...congrats. Try not to worry too much about the little details. Hardly anyone other than the bride notices those.

Blue...I am like you. I need time after losing a beloved pet. But when the next one comes along your heart just opens up again. we also let the remaining animal aniff the other after they die and it seems to help. Living on a farm makes that a possibility.

Kam...you are right about medical records in Canada. My GP gets copies oall my tests and visits from all other doctors, clinics and hospitals where I am seen. No need to duplicate tests or try to explain what has gone on with your previous ex and tx.

To all who play here...if I win the powerball tonight I will make sure we get us all together...preferably somewhere warm and sunny!

I think I'd ask Captain Morgan to make the cake!  Jack Daniels could assist.....Wink

Am watching SNL -- a compilation of the best of past Christmas shows.  Loved seeing Adam Sandler's  Hannukah song (am sure it's on YouTube), and the late, great Gilda Radner.

And now John Malkovich is reading "The Night Before Christmas" with editorial comment!

blue ... when we lost our German Shepherd her buddy dog acted a little 'lost' for several months.  Eventually she grew to like having all the attention ... but she was an older dog.  We didn't think that she would like a new dog moving into her territory.  It's hard to know what they need sometimes ... they all have their own personalities.  I'm sure you know Lilah well enough to figure it out.  And things do have a way of working themselves out ... so if a new doggie chooses you resistance is probably futile.  (((hugs))) to you all.

For sure WR.  Right now she's sleeping with us and I'm having to hand feed her.  Virgil was with her 24/7 since she came home so she's taking it really hard.

You guys are movving so fast, I can't keep up.

I saw my onc yesterday. He looks so old and the rumour is that he has cancer. Crap.

We talked about our kids but not his health.I have known him for almost 30 years. I hope it is only a rumour.

Anyway, it was a good visit except my vitamin D level has gone DOWN to 23. GRRR. Might be because there is no sun in the fall in Michigan or because I have spent too much time inside. He told me to go from 1000 units of D to 2000 a day. He told me he takes 2000.

So almost 6 years and NED. And I let him tell me my heart function was normal. even though the cadiologist already had. We were both happy.

All those who are complaining that the ACA will make medical costs go up ae in fovor of a single payer plan, right? THAT would make sense.

Our baby is 15, this month. My hubby says he wants a new pup immediately after she passes to fill the void. I'm with you Blue, I feel I need a little time to grieve first, but we'll see. It's so hard to even think about.

    Dear Breastcancer.org Community Members,

We at Breastcancer.org would like to put out a request and challenge during this joyous, yet often stressful and emotional season to see how much happiness, hope, love, encouragement, acceptance, care, etc. we can spread throughout the boards and amongst ourselves. There are so many women and families on our boards who are just starting, or are in the middle of, their cancer journey, or even facing their end of life, and are faced, like you, with the holidays and the turning of the New Year. Let's join together, leave the politics and differences behind, and make a difference. Our combined ‘positive’ energy could be powerful on our boards, and beyond.

So, how can we do this? Add lovely, hopeful quotes, poems, photos throughout the boards; select a newbie and help guide her/him; give a daily cyber hug to someone who is in hospice; post something positive each day, post recipes, holiday or cancer-coping strategies…truly the list is endless.

Remember, we are all connected to one another through this cancer battle, even when politics divide. So, let's focus on what unites, not divides, and spread hope and brighten the season with a little unity and joy.

    Peace to you and yours,

Your Mods and the BCO Team

Rosemary, I'm glad to hear you had a good appointment.  I hope it's just a rumor about your onc too.

We lost three pets (cat and two dogs) all within a year and a half timespan about 15 years ago.  I was so heartbroken that I couldn't deal with another loss like that so we've never had another pet.  I could have pets now but we have granddogs, a Jack Russell/Shih Tzu mix that we watch frequently and two Boston Terriers that we watch once in awhile and that seems to be enough.

Mods - I will remove the picture.**

**Sorry, no Edit/Delete hyperlinks on this post.  Too old?

Apparently the point of posting my delipadated house, was missed, so let me explain.  First, this is not my house, but it could have been 3 years ago, except I have since remodeled (major).  I finally decided to remodel (i.e. spend money) when I knew my financial position was secure.  Up until that point, I had what I could afford.  It wasn't great.  My kitchen appliances were breaking one by one.  My oven didn't work, my refridgerator was 25 years old and I had about 15 inches of counterspace.  I've always felt that I should be in a position to be able to a) pay off my house with my savings, if I had to, i.e lose my job or b) have the payment low enough, that either via unemployment or a pension, I could afford the payment.  I consider that, along with maintaing the other necessities of life, like healthcare.  I'm still living on the ragged edge, but I have enough and while I could have had the downpayment on a house worth 2-3 times the value over my working lifetime, I never would accept that risk.  My aversion to "hard times," as well as my definition of "hard times" are quite different than some.  I am single and I had breast cancer.  I made it through this year, alone, and I still have my house.  I can only envision under one scenerio I could ever lose my house and that would be when I was an invalid needing 24/7 care in a nursing home.

In a previous post, I described my healthcare insurance situation as similar to ACA, once I reached retirement age (which is 55 for me).  I never have to worry about an insurance company holding me hostage now....cancelling me, raising premiums unreasonably, taking large adminstrative fees, lifetime caps, etc..  This is what it would be like for others, younger than 55, with ACA.  Ofcourse, if I had the wherewithall to buy a very expensive home with 20% down, I might consider buying a less expensive home, and owning it outright, should I have lost my job before age 55.

RR, if I were to break down and get a dog, I would definitely be looking at Jack Russell terriers . . .  they've always struck me as big dog personalities in a convenient, apartment-sized package.  So I'm really intrigued at the thought of a Jack Russell/Shih Tzu mix.  Could you post a picture??  Please???

Eric used to have a dog and I know he'd like to get another.  But we also like to travel, and I'm hesitant to take on the responsibility.  (Plus, there's the issue of my two cats.  Who by the way, have figured out how to open the closet door, work the big catfood cannister off the shelf, knock it over and then worry it until the lid comes off and catfood spills all over the place.)

Thanks for the explanation, Kam.  We were always cautious that way too.  Our house is much more modest than the houses of most of the men that worked under my husband.  But that's also why he was able to retire young.  I hope the Mods can remove the picture for you.

After the Mods' suggestion I went looking for inspiring poems and this one tickled my fancy today:

    I Resign
    Unknown

I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult.
I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities
    of an 8-year-old again.
I want to go to McDonald’s and think that it’s a four star restaurant.
I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks.
I want to think M&Ms are better than money because
    you can eat them.
I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer day.
I want to return to a time when life was simple.
When all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn’t bother you, because you didn’t know what you didn’t know and you didn’t care.

All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.
I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good.
I want to believe that anything is possible.
I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.
I want to live simple again.
I don’t want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip,
illness, and loss of loved ones.

I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind
word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So…here’s my checkbook and my car keys, my credit cards and all my responsibility.

I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you’ll have to catch me first, ’cause,

    “Tag! You’re it.”

Don't worry Kam!  Things always get misunderstood.  With my health issues I'd be living on the streets and probably be told to do the bootstrap thing, if I lived in the US.

As far as deleted posts go, I don't think it was anyone on this thread.  Probably some fine ladies on this board who are offended.  And as far as the pic I posted of Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Oscar, that is in regard to the zombie apocalypse, a series on AMC.  In case the right is right (hahahahaha)!

Cute pictures, Blue and Jackie!  Here's one of my faves . . . it hangs in the Detroit Institute of Art, and when my daughter and her best friend were little, they used to stand in front of it, holding hands, and claim it was a picture of them.  (My daughter is pale and blond, her BFF is olive-skinned with black hair.)  Now they both have reproductions in their separate dorm rooms, one in Chicago, one in Tennessee.

I just love the depiction of female friendship.  (Plus, they look just a little mischievous . . . which definitely fits my daughter and her friend, as well as us on this thread.)
