    1Athena1,

Beautiful Kate Spade!  I too, love her designs.  Currently, I am looking at splurging on a nice handbag - Chanel comes to mind!!  I love the quilted leather look.  Nothing wrong with dreaming right???

Most recent bag purchase was a Brahmin.  I had purchased a pair of marcasite hoops and chain that didn't seem to match well with what I had intended them for - they had already been paid for on the credit card.  I ended up returning them and then bought the bag - even steven.  Sorta like I already paid for it!  I like a black/brown combo so I am not always switching bags - it is this one:

fredntan - It's left mine in abysmal shape - and if I get a recurrence I am in trouble, as I am self pay right now. Clothes and beauty items have a way of lifting my spirits, though. This cancer experience is so de-feminizing (as is the experience of taking meds for my comorbidity). What I love about retail therapy the most --even if I can't practice it as often as I would like-- is that it makes me feel like a WOMAN again.

Blessings - your post made me smile. An 8!! You go girl!!!!

Dulcigirl - love the pink heels

and I forget your name, but the story about the UPS driver - what a hoot!

I am the frugal one in my house, the hubby is a strong believer in retail therapy though.  But, I bought myself a Coach bag after my 1st lumpectomy. My 2nd required a zebra print Kate Spade.

Now that I'm a bit slimmer, skinny jeans and boots are my new obsession.

I have to get some groceries later and I'm already dreading it. Hopefully the loonies will be at the malls. :-)

I went out black friday shopping. Had never been. And stores were open at 8/9. Went to sears, kmart, then target. Finally filled my kart at target. The line to checkout started in far corner of store wrapping through the isles. I abandoned my cart. Went home and ordered everything online.

It was interesting to see the crowds. Never again

"Black Friday" shopping....I just can't do it.

There is a photo that makes the rounds on email and Facebook this time of year, showing a picture of starving African children reaching out for food on the left side of the pic, and on on the right side, hoards of greedy, aggressive shoppers, carts piled high with stuff, pushing and shoving and fighting each other for some piece of merchandise like a toy or a flat screen TV.

    The caption reads "Define Neccessity...."

It just breaks my heart, and I hate the way that the TV news covers these extreme shopping events that turn violent as if they were some hilarious annual holiday fun.

    O.K. Off my soapbox now...Undecided

It's hard. Do I NEED anything new? Not really, unless it's pants that don't fall down around my ankles when I put them on. I have a sewing machine, and I could try to alter them, but I already did that, and I suck at it.

We aren't extravagant people; we have a good life but are still frugal. We are active church volunteers and support many local charities with work and money.

It freaked me out to spend that much money at Nordies a few weeks ago, but it's been years since I spent anything on myself, really. And seeing myself in my new outfit on Thanksgiving Day, and hearing the nice comments from my family was sooooo good for my self-esteem!

I think there's a fine line between the thrill of the hunt, the success of getting something at a good price, and just overt gotta-have-it, max-out-the-credit-cards greed.

My mom and I always had a little game...we'd see who could get the best deal on something. I think I had the best win with a Liz Claiborne sweater dress I just coveted many years ago. I saw it at Macys for $200. Well, that was half my rent payment. No way. But then it went on sale....40% off. Still, way too expensive for me. I kept checking, and it was still there. Then one day, it was marked 75% off the sale price, and I got it for $30!!! Believe me, I wore that dress forever.

Even now, when I can well afford to go to the dentist AND buy a pair of shoes in the same month, I think long and hard about it. Some habits stay with you.

No Black Friday/mob shopping for me, thank you very much! I will have to negotiate the mobs sometime soon. I told myself I would get out this year to get more of the Christmas cheer in me - whatever that means. Wink

Dulcigirl...we need a LIKE button on here.  I'm with you.

I have the desire for retail therapy, but as I am still undergoing ever changing body revisions, I can't buy much.

I bought one skirt, one top and one AWESOME pair of shoes form white house black market.  ONE. In 13 months! Good for my wallet, bad for my therapy.

Unfortunately, retail therapy is depressing because of what I can't buy.  But, I go anyway.  Someone said just walking through the mall helps. I agree. That is what I rely on.

    Great thread ....

Congrats Blessings on your hard work. I was working on it when I was diagnosed but then I allowed bad behaviours to take over. I am back at it again.

    Dulcigirl love the shoes ...

Someone posted on the first page about picking between sex and retail therapy ... Not sure I would pick the shopping .. ;)

I did treat myself after my treatment was finished and bought myself an iPad.
