oh ok, forget that.........i'll put it on my credit card and send thank you's to my friends myself........kind of a hassle the other way!
-
Ok you guys are killing me!!!! Im getting a vision of illuminating, tattooed, stuffed sausage legs. No, the race was June last year also! But, you can go to Yahoo weather and see from the extended forecast that it is supposed to be in the 70s! That is, if they can really predict Michigan weather that much in advance (if at all).
There is nothing you have to do Michelle unless you want to start tanning those legs. Just kidding!! I sent you a message offline about the packets. Lets work something out when it is convenient for you.
I cant believe THAT PICTURE. Im just tired of looking at it. Shel, I can walk you through putting your picture up if you want but you still cannot remove the one at the top of the page. You should put that picture of you on your Jeep. You could be a model for Chrysler. (ok stupid question, The jeep is by Chrysler, right?) Yep, he better dig deep in his pockets for that remark. Well, can you blame him? Even Alexandra thought it was one of us!
Ill try and fix the team page soon. I really didnt think there was any way to get to it unless I gave it out but I see you can get to it by the fundraising link. Oh well, that is Bella on there. I think I already mentioned that I tried to remove that banner but they do not let you. I thought it was just my own page when I set it up and didnt have much of a fundraising goal as you can see if you have already stumbled across it.
It does sound easier to put your offline contributions on your credit card if you dont mind doing that. I think there is still a way to send online thank you notes to anyone you want. Thank your dad for the coins, that was awfully nice! Nice touch putting them in your tennies. Sure, Ill draw attention to my fat ankles.
Thank you for doing the fundraising. It makes us all look good since they are putting it on the team page. Sorry Im such a slug about it. Everybody I know is tapped out with fundraising for different things so I havent even mentioned this event to my work.
Went for a walk during lunch and missed all the fun! Talk to you soon.
xxxooo
Nancy -
lol!.......this is my first "event" since dx so everybody is on board right now! i'm sure the novelty will wear off for everyone soon! i hope not, but i'm pretty realistic!
-
Thanks, everyone, for the laughs! I just got home from shopping and needed one, desperately. If half of what you all say is true, I just might brave it and wear shorts (not!).
Too funny.
Nancy - I think you ought to put the jacket on Bella and get a photo. She looks like an agreeable pup. -
LMAO...I just went to this post wondering "What is MI...and is this something I should be worrying about getting???" Oops!
Peggy -
Okay...I think I will join the thigh posts...I am wearing shorts but that doesn't make it right. Ha, ha.
What is the uniform for the race? Are we wearing pink or the bc.org shirts?
Chris -
Chris,
I was wondering about the shirt thing too.
Is the final decision still to meet at the Survivors Tent?
I'd like to exchange cell phone numbers with someone in case I get lost. Somebody, anybody please??
kats -
lol! my cell is (519)819 1487.........but i'll be the most likely to be lost (or late), i'm sooo not a morning person!
-
Nancy-How do we get to the team page? I signed up for the donation page last night...and ended up sending three emails each to all of my friends. Needless to say...I agree that the webpage is not friendly. But I have had two donations so far! I debated about the donation thing too, but I talked with my mom about it and she reminded me that the advancements with early detection directly affected me. So I sent out a little "no pressure" message to my friends and family...they are probably feeling pressure though since it sent out three times each!
-
Survivor cafe-Is this only for the survivors? What do we do with our friends and family?
-
I still haven't changed this page like I said I would. I had this nice story about the team in my head but I have to get it down on paper. You can select other team members pages from here or go directly from the links below.

I thought I would wear the komen pink survivor t-shirt. It is the only time I don't mind sticking out in a crowd as a survivor. I don't know if we can even count on getting the bc.org shirts on time since they mentioned they were short of some sizes. What do you think?
Be sure to put your NUMBERS on your shirt. They will be in your packet and that is like your ticket to walk.
The Survivor Cafe/Tent is just a canopy and they have extra freebies for survivors. Everyone is welcome there and will not feel left out. The survivor breakfast is only for survivors though so I wasn't planning on going to that since family members and friends will be left out.
Ok - I'm still going to send you the printable maps as soon as I can include one that has parking on it. But, there is an area with a stage. They have people on the stage that are projected onto these HUGE screens. So, if anyone gets lost, I say, go up to the stage and get your picture on that screen and start screaming something about legs and we will find you! If something is weird about the survivor cafe, then the stage is the next best place to meet. That whole area is not that big (unless they changed things from last year). I have to warn you that we have always gone a little late because we didn't want to be a quivering, sobbing mess when they do some survivor stuff first thing. It is emotional enough!
Sige - Are you sorry you found us? We are going to have fun!
I'll send email with my cell phone number. -
I updated our team page but I don't really think anyone will view it unless they are really digging for it or stumble upon it out of curiosity.
You guys are giving out your own link for fundraising, right? If not, let me know if I should change anything...particulary "scared shitless". I don't want to speak as a team if that offends anyone. Maybe I should just change it or yank it? I'm always doing this!
NotMe - I could ask my DH to drop your stuff off in advance at conniesue's if that would work for you and she wouldn't mind? Does she need to pick up her packet at the race? -
Nancy,
You were speaking honesty and from the heart. I didn't give the wording 'scared shitless' a second thought, it didn't offend me in the least. It sounded natural and so like something I'd say too.
Yes, I gave out my own fundrasing page.
kats -
well i'm sure it'll come as no surprise that the wording suits me just fine!!!!!!!!!!
-
LOL How funny, shel38.
I think you did a fine job, Nancy. And scared shitless suits me just fine, also! -
Very nice words on the group page Nancy...it says it all I think. Nice job.
I don't think Conniesue will be joining us...she tried to sign up too late...I did tell her she would still be a part of our team even with individual status. Do I need to get the packets early? What part of town are you coming from?
My husband and I are coming down from Oxford...and will take I-75 down. We will stay for some of the activities afterwards...does anyone want a ride? -
This is a quick look at the race schedule. There is an expo the day before. I wasn't planning on going unless I could get the celebrity Jo Separrer http://www.joserrapere.com/ to wear the crazy jacket. They did not respond to my email. Yes - the crazy jacket arrived!
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/releases/quick_facts.pdf
Individual registration is still available and we will gladly open our arms to have you as part of our team.Quote:
Online Registration Individuals may register online from March 1 to June 8 at 5 p.m. For anyone registering online after June 2, the only way to pick up packets (T-Shirt, pin, bib, etc.) is on June 9 at the Expo from 10 a.m. - 7 p.m., or on Race Day from 7 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.
We are still on the top fundraiser list. This page has a problem loading even with a fast computer. Just click on it and leave it. It will come up eventually!
http://www.active.com/donate/detroitrace4thecure
Team awards... Ok, this is premature but after re-reading this, I see that the most survivor award is a one-time award. So, I think we are a serious contender!
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/releases/team_kit_team_awards.pdf
I'll be there at 7:00 a.m.! It looks like kats & fancy2 will be there that early also. I haven't received the bc.org stuff yet but hope we get them soon. I will email the list of cell phone numbers I have soon.
The Crazy Jacket came with some pink ribbon and other pins on the lapel. My friend added a Komen pin and I think I would like to leave those on it when we pass it on.
This is what I got from the Crazy Jacket people...Quote:
Included in The Jacket package is a journal/guest book. Everyone is welcome to sign or leave a note !!! Anyone and Everyone is welcome to join our guest book !!
Also, because the previous journey went to a school to host, the didn't think it was fair to give the "gift around the World" to just one person. Therefore , they did not keep the Florida Gift, and simply added to it, a gift from Alabama. Please accept gifts from both journeys.
Most importantly, HAVE FUN with it.
I will have something from Michigan to add... heee heee - Yes, I'm evil but I'm practically walking distance to one landmark in MI. I thought about taking a picture of Bella in the jacket but thought noone would want to put it on after her. I might still do that if I can get a shirt on her first. The jacket is already a little ummmm 'not fresh' so I don't think it will matter! I'd like a shot of us in front of Tiger Stadium since it is impressive and is another Michigan landmark. Any other funny ideas while we have it?
I forgot to send the maps I have... I'll email them out to you soon. -
How many survivors do we have? Do you know the record?
-
I don't know any stats except for last year...
Last year, New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church won the prize of the most survivors. They had 803 members with 35 survivors. That is 4.4% of the group. So, we have 25 members on the Komen list with 10 survivors and that is 40% of our team!
I'm hoping Kats will post a nice note she got from Racelady Jan! I'm really getting geeked now! -
i will have surpassed my goal off 1,000 dollars by thursday so we should remain in the top fundraising category..............i'm so excited!!!!!!!
i'm a little nervous about walking that "far".......i hope there are some other slowpokes! -
shel38,
Congrats on your fundraising........
I'm a slowpoke.....bad feet and being fat sure can slow 'ya down -
Ok you guys... kats and I were talking and this is what Racelady Jan had to say...
Quote:
I love this story - do you think you and the rest would be interested in doing a story for us? We are always looking for nice ones that the media will pick up on. I'd like to pitch it - can't say if they will use it or not.
Can't wait to meet you all now!
Jan
I was cc'd on it but haven't gotten it. It's lost in cyberspace or something. Is this too cool or what!?!
Shel - great fundraising! Don't worry about walking. Walk down the block and turn around if you want. You can still sign up for the trolley. -
awesome.........!
-
For all of the ladies doing the race this weekend do you want to wear something to make ourselves stand out? Right now our team is planning to wear the race provided t-shirts pink for survivors and white for supporters. And the survivors will have pink hats as well.
I was thinking that maybe we could get multi colored bandanas and wear them around our hats/heads, or tied on our arms or legs? Another suggestion would be to buy pink shoelaces and wear them in our shoes. Any other suggestions? What do you think? -
well i've got the quarters on pink ribbons for our shoelaces or wherever you want.........i have no hair so i have to wear a bandana..........i'm totally for matching "headwear" but someone would have to grab a bunch and we could reimburse............there are no good bandanas here in canuckville, or i would volunteer........unless you guys would like pink "tyedye"..there is a store in our mall that sells them 3/10 dollars.........but i don't know if they'd have enough...........i can't sew a button on a shirt to match the friggin hole so making bandanas is "out" for me!
keep us posted.........i'd love to participate in this idea! -
I found some tye dye ones on the net I can order and bring with me. They are not too expensive and would be my treat for all. What do you think?
Another idea...what if we had large stickers (smileys maybe) that we could add to our bib number or on the sign we wear on our back? -
again........."awesome" on both ideas.......am i the only one without hair???????? no biggee but it just occurred to me now!
we can tie the BC quarters on our shoes, wear matching bandanas, and put the stickers on our bib numbers.........WOULDN'T WE STAND OUT AS A GROUP! i love it! -
I just sent out a bunch of emails to all my pig...er...friends to see if I can get more donations. Keep your fingers crossed, guys.
I have 3 people I want to commemorate--a great-aunt, an aunt, and the friend of a friend. I think I'll need a second card. -
I can't believe it's this Saturday. I wasn't really going to do any fundraising, but now that you all are I guess I can send an email around work so I don't look like a loser.
I may end up taking the trolley - waaaaa. I have to call and see if there's still room.
I'm going to the podiatrist who treated my last broken foot on Thursday. My foot doesn't feel as well as it should (or as well as I think it should) and I want to get a second opinion about having the cast off. I hope he doesn't give me that "are you an idiot" look and say something like "of course it still hurts a little". Sigh. I'm still so ticked off at myself.
I'm all for bandana idea, too. However, I'd prefer to wear it on an arm or leg or neck rather than on my head. I have a thing against wearing things on my head (gee I wonder why?).
Keep your fingers crossed that the forecast stays as it is now!
Nancy - are you going to try emailing Lila Lazarus or Kim Adams about The Jacket?
What story was the racelady talking about, if you don't mind me asking?
Irene -
Racelady was talking to kats about coming from Chicago to meet us Michigan ladies and how we are connected online through breastcancer.org. She asked Kats if she was coming to meet family and she told her about our team. I'd have to open my email to see if I have that right. I hope I have the general conversation - Mary? She gave Mary a parking pass since she is coming so far. That was really nice.
I ran to two 'dollar stores' after my MAMMOGRAM (yes it was good!) I didn't see any bandannas but they had a few things. One had feather boa's. They only had 15 pink though but there were other colors. The other store had lua lei's made of cloth/silk flowers in various colors. Those were $1.00 each. Then I saw a necklace that glows in the dark in multicolors for 2/$1.00. The cutest thing was a long fluffy monkey that had velcro on its hands to lock around something. DH mentioned.. like a monkey on your back? I said sure. But, they didn't have enough and hubby mentioned that would be hot to carry around. I noticed that one group had strings tied from the neck to arm of their t-shirts to make them sorta sleeve less if you can picture that? We could get some fluffy yarn and do that? Another cute thing was neon color hair pieces like a bunch of pink & purple curls that you pin to your hat. They didn't have enough though.
So, I'll go with whatever you guys want! Do you have time to get bandannas? How much were they? They sound nice.
Irene - do you know how we can contact Lila Lazarus or Kim Adams? Who is Kim Adams anyway? I hope your ankle is getting better. Geez - only a few days left! No t-shirts or banner from bc.org yet.
