3 Years Out
Hi girls!
Just a shout out to all my favorite sistahs that I am still alive and well (most days---lol) although I don't visit much lately.
So, 3 years ago this month I was recuperating from my bilateral mastectomy and waiting for my final pathology report. I knew there was node involvment but when I recieved the results it was still shocking. My primary tumor was 6.5 cm (with multicentric disease on that side) and on the propholactic side they found LCIS! I don't know that I was quite prepared for all that information, but knew chemo and rads were in my future. I found you ladies about mid treatment I believe and have to say you pulled me through some of the scariest, darkest days I have had during and since. And I have to say MOST days now I DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT MY CANCER! I NEVER thought that day would arrive. Don't get me wrong, it's still there lurking, every new ache and pain, I have to catch myself to not slip back in to that terrified mode, but more often than not I am not dwelling on it! So new ladies, please know there is hope, and that you WILL feel better in the future. Different, but better.
Again, I can't say enough about how you ladies and this site have helped me on my journey. Although I'm not on the boards much these days I think of all of you often and wish all of you health and peace going forward.
Love,
Sharon

You go girl!!
Congratulations! -
congratulations !!! You give me inspiration. Being stage IIIc gets me down a lot, but like you I am trying not to dwell on it. Went topless for the first time yesterday. It feels so good to ditch the wig. On to rads next and then wait for my exchange. It is a long process for sure.

Perhaps the most encouraging thing you said about being three years out is that most days you don't think about cancer. That is moving on!!! Great news!

This is so wonderful to read such a positive stories. I'm just between chemo and rads.... and some days I feel a lot of anxiety, second-guessing every scan, test that was done before and after my dx. (Worried that my cancer could be more advanced then IIIc and it just wasn't detected). Some days I live in fear, worried that I have no way of checking if chemo really worked (adjuvant), some days I'm worried of being 100%ER, (risk of recurrence never going down), some days I'm happy that I have hormon receptors, (more ways to control it).....list is endless, depending on what I just researched or heard.
And some days I'm very positive and happy with the way everything goes....
So I go through a lot of different emotions and fears from day to day... I'm happy and excited about the future but at the same time I'm terrified of it!
Sharon, stories like yours give me HOPE that my fear is going to diminish at some point and I will be able to move on with life without constant thinking "what if".
I know that worrying about "what if" is not going to change the future but only spoils "today", but some days my brain is refusing to cooperate with my own advice.
So, thank you and, please, share any experiences or suggestion on how to get "beyond the point of fear".
