Jackie, I just read a piece on how there may be more Independents now because some of the Tea Party types don't see themselves as Republicans. So while they now identify as Independent they still tend to vote Republican - in other words a re-labeling rather than a realignment in voting.
Edited to add: Which would also explain the decline in those labeling themselves as Republican, an issue that caused Republicans to get into "unskewing" polls because they felt Republicans were under represented...they were there, just now called themselves Independents.

sandy, well that shows how (happily) isolated I am - I think it's hysterical. BTW, that movie REALLY scared me.
rr - I ADORE Enchanted April - heartwarming, and if you're a gardener, get ready to really drool. By director who did FOur Weddings and a Funeral, another winner, but Enchanted April is warmer, you'll never look at an oleander tree in the same way again
Happy Watching.I feel badly for Holly Petraeus, she has worked SO HARD for the well being of military families, which is what brought her to the attention of Elizabeth Warren when she was setting up Consumer Protection in DC. Hope Mrs. Petraeous expresses her anger, without taking it out on herself, and moves on with her life with the dignity and head held high she's lived for years, and years, and years. She has made a positive difference for SO many who serve. Think SHE should have the medals on her chest.

Sun - I had my Vit D done just before I found out I had BC (on Vet's day, as a matter a fact and totally forgot about that 1 year mark yesterday). It was low - I think 18. I've been taking a mega-dose weekly since April (switched PCPs, got BC after that result....explaining the wait). I don't know how long it takes to get to normal. Do you know? I've got a blood test scheduled any time I get my arse into the hospital here. My suspicion is that the weekly dose is not enough, despite it being 43,000 IUs.
I have to say, I feel like a creeky old lady. Moving after being still is tough. Is this normal?? I can hike to the limit of my PN in my feet, uphills, downhills, etc., but just getting out of bed, or out of a chair, or the car after sitting for awhile is not nice. Seeing the MO for my 3 month checkup, so I have lots to ask her about this darn Exemestane drug.
Ok , back to the fun......
-
Kam, do you take D3? My levels didn't budge with mega-doses of regular D (D2?). I take 2,000 IUs of D3 daily and it's now >50. But if I don't take it consistently every day, it dives back down into the 20s.
-
Now you know why I complain constantly about having to blow the leaves and rake up the acorns!
This was just my front yard!

-
Ooops .. that picture is huge ... hopefully, the mods will come along and resize it for me.
I've been working like crazy again outdoors today. It took me two days to get all those leaves in the picture blown down to the far back yard where I could mow them up with the riding mower. The wind came up today and thwarted all my efforts ... I'm covered in dirt, leaves and dust.
I have a couple of reports today .. thankfully .. so will be busy this afternoon working. It's supposed to rain, so a good day to be inside.
Hope everyone is having a great day,
Bren

Sun - the bunny boiler term came from the movie "Fatal Attraction" back in the 80's (I think - but it could have been the 90's). Glenn Close played the Other Woman and she boiled the family's pet bunny when the married man (Michael - oh shoot I can't remember anything anymore - ) anyway when he wouldn't leave his wife for her.
-
Michael Douglas........I remember all the men I worked with were totally freaked out by that movie. They couldn't conceive of a woman becoming unhinged because they dumped her.
-
This weather is too hot for November (60s)!! Aghhh...wil move to Nova Scotia if this continues....
-
Athena, you could come to Chicago. It was 70 yesterday; it's 36 at the moment.
-
Bren, what a bunch of leaves. I can't imagine what the acorns are like.
-
RR ... I swear, I'd rather shovel snow than get up all those damn leaves. I raked and shoveled up tons of wheelbarrow loads of acorns this year.
Athena ... We're supposed to get a rain storm tonight. Maybe it will cool off your area. I'm loving the warmer temps.
Gumby ... I loved that movie ... it was so suspenseful. The ending was very cool.
Need to get back to work.
hugs,
Bren
-
Riley - I take D3, and i think it's actually 50,000 IU's once a week.
Leaves - I have them and they are sure slow to come down this year. Suppose to snow this week, so not sure if I'll get them up before then...nothing worse than wet soppy leaves. It's 37 here and cold......but it will get colder before January arrives.
-
Kam, If the pill you take is green, then you are taking D2. In my opinion it's useless. I was on it for a year and my level only went from 22 to 34.
After one full year on over the counter D3, my level was over 50. My last bone density test indicated that I am slightly reversing my previous bone loss.
-
Yes, the term is 'in reference' to Fatal Attraction but the term wasn't used until much more recently - yes, men are freaked out by that movie - hey if you're going to fool around you better beware!
-
I took the dark green gel capsule, too, without result. Also, once a week doesn't work for me, either. I need to take a smaller amount every day to keep my levels therapeutic.
-
I take 50k IUs once/week but its the blue/green capsule. It did the trick for my vit d levels.
Had my radiation simulation today. I am so underwhelmed.
Does anyone want a cat? She's almost a year old, Siamese, very pretty and friendly to humans but she terrorizes my Maine coon! -
Notself - yes, I'm taking what you describe (I was wrong, but finally looked). Blue/green gel pill, actually D2 1.25 mg (50,000 IUs), but I take two, once a week, so could I possibly be taking 100,000 IU's a week?
Enjoy - it worked for you? I will soon find out. I was exploring Youtube lectures on Vit D awhile back and a therapeutic dose was around 2700 IUs a day...at the level, you wouldn't reach toxicity levels, but 80% or more would get to proper levels.
I have osteopenia in my lumbar spine (baseline bone scan). Not so worried about that (yet), but I sure want to get rid of these stiff joints.
-
Kam, have you tried glucosamine? Since I started taking it my joints feel a lot better. I also take Vit D3.
-
garden - I remembered the movie, with terror, just hasn't heard that expression "bunny boiler" b4.
I take Vit D3 - about 5,000 or more ius a day. Haven't had it tested since May, will be tested again this Thursday. It was only 48 when last tested, but I'm ok with that.
Watch out for Glucosamine, IF you have borderline blood glucose levels - it can raise them. So can large doses of Niacin ( taken to redue cholesteral, which often goes UP on an AI) - where is Otter? "Are we having fun yet?"
-
Yorkie - no, haven't tried that. Just seems so odd that 90% of the drugs I take are to remedy the symptoms caused by the other 10%!
Intrigue.....

Karl Rove pictured with Paula Broadwell 6/11/2012 @ NCSL Leaders Forum

Affairs, Petraeous, bunny boilers, POTUS election, Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, Eric Cantor, Libya and Karl Rove......things that make you go hmmm.
-
I know, Kam. Just doesn't seem fair.

So, what's the connection with Rove and the bimbo? Inquiring minds want to know!

I do know one thing. In every picture I've seen of her and a man, her boobs are pushed right against the man.
-
You'll have to read the Crooks and Liars thread I posted. It's all pretty much observational, including a timeline. You know, it's a laying out of the dots, not really connecting them, other than Rove and Patreaous were close...Paula was speaking about Fox News Libya tidbits at some Colorado conference and in one instance, seeming to speak for the muted Patreaous, while Rove is trying to stir up election trouble on Fox, about Libya. They also invited Bob Woodward in at one point, but he turned them down, saying there wasn't much there there (on the Libya story).
I'm not making any conclusions....but I've pretty much felt there is no there there on the Libya thing and it's one big righwing pre-election conspiracy in an attempt to disparage our POTUS and now we have these other connections.....just all too coincidental.
-
Very interesting. So there has been a long standing Rove-Petraeus relationshp? Sniff, sniff...
-
I can assure you there is no "there" there on Libya. It truly is just another way to smear the President. There certainly was much more of a "there" there when Dumbya and Satan Cheney and their band of demons ignored spelled-out, blatant klaxons of alarm on the upcoming Septembef 11 terrorist attacks, but no hostile Congresscritters made up crap and hounded that Administraton for criminal negligence (Condi Rice's slip-up of calling Dumbya her husband notwithstanding).
Movies - I want to see the "Best Marigold Exotic Hotel" ... It was on PPV on our cable. Waiting for it to come to regular movie channels. We saw "Moonrise Kingdom" over the summer (the first day of the derecho blackout, as a matter of fact) and can highly recommend it as a quirky, cute, sweet movie. We don't often go to movies anymore because people are so rude, talking to each other, talking on cell phones, kicking the back of seats. We are off work this week so we may venture to an old folks' mantinee.
"Bunny boiler" describes it so perfectly, Sandy! DH laughed out loud when I repeated it.
Sunflowers, I cannot take credit for Sparklemoose - Lindasa used it once and I adopted it. There are also other delightful descriptors - Tundra Tart, Tundra Tramp, Wasilly Hillbilly, and Snowdrift Snooki, among others.
We were talking about our investments today and have decided since the President was reelected, we don't need to go immediately to capital preservation mode. Even if we go off the fiscal cliff, things will get better after another short recession, and the cliff will make a nice start at making a dent in the deficit. And we still advocate eliminating the cap on Social Security contributions from wages. That would absolutely make the trust fund solvent and take a bunch of worries off the table.

And here is a fun proposal by Robme reported in today's Atlantic newsfeed - limit income tax deductions to $50,000. The wealthy would pay most of the revenue raised from it. Looks good to me!

Well, well, sounds like all the talking head tea partiers still want to see massive obstructionism taking place. Wonder why they want to rush the Repug party into total annihilation so quickly. What is left for them???? They are going be knocking on a closed door...what a bunch. There are so many people who wouldn't know a fact if it drug them into deep water and held them there.

Just saw a huge montage of Romney flip-flops........and once more with feeling.........thank God he never even got close to winning the White House.
