Also forget to say to shannagirl, thanks for your sentiments.  It is nice of you to take the time to express your thoughts and to "understand" that we are happy and feeling some relief.  I appreciate that it has been a bit rough on everyone and I  ( understandable ) do feel that with way less obstruction and understanding how things work in the government we can see credible solutions found and administered now.  Thanks again.

BTW, I listener to Boehner tonight and he said he'd consider revenue increases as long as they came from a growing and expanding economy. That would be a big NO to tax increases of any sort.

We ran up a huge credit card bill when W cut taxes and started two wars. I know the right's tired of hearing that but it's unfortunately true. Obama added to that bill by spending us out of a recession/depression. I know this is simplistic but the point is that we have to pay that bill someday. We, the people who benefitted then and now from the tax cuts, not the poor who paid no federal income tax to begin with.

Why is this a difficult concept?

Just one quibble, a lot of folks who are poor are working and they are paying taxes, however small the tax bill might be. A minimum wage job, pften only 20 hours of work given, pretty much equates to poor in this economy.

On the issue of the death penalty - I am firmly against it and happy to live in a country where it does not happen. There is a much greater punishment in the long term loss of freedom than in death.

The possibility of error and reality that it happens much too often is another reason to avoid the death penalty.

Further, we (well at least some of us) are opposed to spanking our children because it teaches them that violence can solve a problem. Violence by the state does not solve violence in the community.

Indeed, when a person is about to commit a crime, I hardly think they stop to wonder what the legal punishment could be. Instead, they either don't think at all, or they think they won't get caught. Looking at the crime rates in the US, I'd have to say that the death penalty is no deterrent.

I agree, Chickadee. The Republicans aim to "expand the base" of persons paying any income tax yet don't want to tax the wealthy. There's nowhere to go but down.

Florida STILL doesn't have official results. Given that nobody cares anymore, I hope officials there decide to institute some reforms. They look like total idiots. Serves Rick Scott right.

FL needs to get its act together! 2000 is so yesterday. The nation is on to their dirty tricks and won't let the Thugs get away with election theft again. All continuing this charade does is to make people miserable, with the same outcome.

I think that Florida's laws require a recount when the election is this close.

Yes, and that recount hasn't even begun. They are still doing a first pass!

An east coast state that can't even finish counting the ballots on Election Day when every other east coast state can is a total embarrassment. There should be some consequence for this incompetence.

I have some sympathy for the mirror ladies. I remember well that crushing sense of defeat, especially in 2004. It doesn't feel good.

Re: Florida - the delay is in Miami-Dade - no surprise:

Supervisor Penelope Townsley acknowledged that mistakes had been made in the elections process, according to Miami Herald news partner WFOR-CBS4. She spoke after another day during which elections workers fed thousands of pages of ballots into scanning machines.

With the presidential race settled — but Florida still too close to call — Miami-Dade’s lack of final results have left a much-mocked blank spot on the long-decided electoral map.

Earlier Wednesday, the county had said 20,000 absentee ballots still needed to be counted. The office of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez issued a news release insisting that the “unprecedented length of the ballot” represents “over 100,000 pages that need to be reviewed and verified, one by one.”

“This in no way is representative of any issues or delays, but a matter of unprecedented volume,” the release said, noting that the county’s canvassing board is continuing to examine suspect absentee ballots.

    Blah, blah.....more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/11/07/3085779/some-20000-absentee-ballots-left.html

Now what they do with that sense of crushing defeat I'm sure I will have no sympathy whatsoever. Bracing myself for even more nastiness. Not excusable at all.

Remember Mary that the Tea Party is the reason, most likely, their man wasn't elected.  They went so far right I think it scared many voters.  I know I was giving my head a good shake every time I read their comments.  It is also one of the reasons Romney flip flopped so much.  He was trying to cater to them and to the American People.  You can't do that.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.

I hope maybe they learned something.

The tea party is blaming Romney for being too "weak kneed" to secure the win.  Undecided

Re death penalty:  I am against it.  It is an act of mercy to let the guilty off the hook.  Let them sit in a cell for the rest of their lives.  Now we just need to make sure that they throw the key away.

They can only go extinct by doing the same thing over and over again while continuing to lose elections.  Though, as long as Fox News is around, filling their pretty little heads with "Romney will win in a landslide!" they can live their lives in denial. Haven't the accurate predictions, of Obama winning 300-335 electoral votes, by every news source, other than Fox, convinced them yet how they are being lied to by that deplorable network??

We are now the land of marriage equality, women's rights, no war for oil, healthcare for all and people who believe in SCIENCE!!!

On the day of reckoning for republicans, conservatives themselves offer a variety of reasons, from the surprisingly insightful ('we are only appealing to white men', 'our message is obsolete') to the more superficial ('what did Karl Rove do with our money????') Another good article here. Others refuse to admit defeat. Incredibly, though, many in the GOP have the good sense to blame the party and not just the lackluster candidate:
