I went through the thread to catch up and laughed and laughed.  Now I can't remember what all I saw and who to thank but I appreciate all of you.

I just read an interesting piece from the Charlotte Observer.  It sure describes why so many people I know that used to say they were Republicans no longer express that.  I don't know how they'll eventually vote but they're sure not proud of their party, 'The self-inflicted Republican affliction':

RR - quite a thought provoking article.  I'm glad to have had it to read.  It helps me to control my 'urge' to lash out.  I know being able to reach out and love the somewhat un-lovable is what will bring many to the point of being able to find some rational common ground.  We do need to learn to express ( and many here to that wonderfully ) ourselves in a positive way that does not demean those who see things differently.  Thanks again.

Here is something fun to show your regressive friends when they natter on about voter fraud:

    Laughing

Funny, the only voter fraud I have heard about this election was voter fraud perpetrated by regressives!

I can't catch up with this thread, and when I check in spend ages reading back trying to get up to date...in any case would just like to thank you girls for educating me in US election politics... your contributions are witty, clever, informative, mad, hysterically funny and thoroughly enjoyable.  RR that article you posted interesting, and frightening at the same time, and I think its description of how 'offensiveness went mainstream' rings a bell with me here, as we are soon to have elections, and I'm afraid that's often a hallmark of our own domestic electioneering...appealing to the most bigotted, fanning the flames of prejudice, pandering to the ignorant, to those who do not wish to think... anyway, not sure that I'll have time to post again, so wishing you well for Tuesday, will be following the news, and my fingers will be tightly crossed that it'll go as we hope it will!

RR - speaking to the Charlotte Observer OpEd you posted...back in 2009, my GOP Congressman decided to fly with the local Tea Party groups and he lost any sense of the decorum and maturity required of being a US Congressman when he chose to do so.  (He really is not that bright of a man and it is totally amazing he ever got elected, but that's sort of symptomatic of rural counties in California where you can run just about any Republican and can win.)  Honestly, I think this element of the Republican party is more prevelant in the rural counties (atleast in Californis) and in the world of political correctness, they just hid their feelings until their leaders gave them permission to act out their true racist and radical natures.

Rep Wally Herger, who has been around since Reagan, decided to retire this election. It was starting to look like the voters were catching on to his ineptitude.  Unfortuneately, we just lost our chance at a Democratic replacement.

Here is what he did in 2009 (it made national news):

Blue - I find it interesting that Romney refuses to talk about his Mormonism.  This is an "off camera" discussion between a radio host and Romney where we get close.  First of all, it shows his irritability (and lack of listening skills), but also his unwillingness to discuss his religion.

    http://youtu.be/G5sXcdiL1wE

I'd like to think Romney is more pragmatic than your video shows, but the LDS do one heck of a job inculcating their members.  I would never be able to trust if Romney would follow first the US Constitution or Salt Lake City.  Even if Romney wanted to do something against the political doctrines of his church (and they have those!), I'm not sure he could resist, given the nature of his time as a faithful member.

I would not say this about a Roman Catholic candidate, nor even a Baptist.  This church superinvolves their members to the point they become one with the church.  It is very insular.  There is very little free will left over.

You've got incredibly long lines for limited hour (thanks Regressive Governor Rick Scott) early voting and it takes a lawsuit by the Democratic Party to extend the hours.

What's wrong with this picture?  Let's give up the sherriade on this answer.

If anyone has any doubt about who wants to suppress the number of voters.  Duh!

Well, this certainly explains the lack of federal income tax returns by Romney:

Breaking: Romney Paid Zero Taxes From 1996 To 2009

    Source: Daily Kos

Using a tax shelter called a CRUT (charitable remainder unitrust) that was held by the Church of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), Mitt Romney was able to pay zero taxes (legally) every single year from 1996 to 2009. Why did he stop in 2009? Because he would make public his 2010 tax return, that is why.

This tax loophole was killed by Congress in 1997. However those including Romney that were already using it were allowed to continue it. The way it works, is that Romney makes a "charitable" contribution to the Church of Latter Day Saints and it goes into a trust. Since the trust is held by the church, the money is tax deferred. Any capital gains, are non taxed because of the charities status. Like an annuity, the donor gets a charitable tax deduction and an stream of cash payments. When Romney dies, the church accepts full ownership..

Bloomsberg's attorneys estimate as the Romneys have received these payments, the money that will potentially be left for charity has declined from at least $750,000 in 2001 to $421,203 at the end of 2011.....

Romney has refused to answer any thing on this topic. His campaign puts out that it was all legal....

lindasa, I had read that piece before a short while ago so am very glad you got it in here. I have a WHOLE list of things that bother me most about Romney.  If people were able to see just all the things that have been revealed here and are verifiable, I think many would turn away in total revulsion.

Now many of these things that he WON'T talk about are one thing and certainly say plenty about his character.  Then, as if that wouldn't sink the ship for me, he goes along and flip-flops, takes things out of the perspective they are in and puts them into his, lies, and then tells you how wonderful it will be if you will just pick him.  The height of crassness has washed over me lately each time he talks about how he and just about everyone around him is being attacked. Then he gives his little smirk.  It is been un-becoming in the extreme.

Not watching much t.v. today save for early morning local news and MTP.  Do have the t.v. on though and heard something interesting from Democracy Plaza......seems the Republican party is now demanding Chris Christie reaffirm STRONG support of Romney if he wishes to be considered a Republican.

Just a bit hard to hear Republicans threaten one of their own for standing up as the Governor of his own devastated state...........that he is not to show favoritism and kindness  to the President for having done his job and done it darn well and he'd best get in line.

Things like that are what go toward the destruction of giving Republicans any sort of decent credit.  It would seem to me that far, far too many are helping to furthur the deep divisiness of this county and the majority of them should be bowing their heads in shame.  Disgraceful and in my view very un-Christian like behavior.   Do any Repulicans really care about what happened to so many involved in "Sandy".  Where are these people's hearts and souls.

Actually there was a Rupert Murdoch "tweet" out there yesterday (I believe) demanding that Christie re-affirm his support of Robme - gotta love Murdoch - why doesn't he stay in U.K. so they can put him in his own personal jail cell for the "phone hacking scandal".

Gov Christie was just on the news to confirm his backing of "Romoney".  He couldn't understand why there was an issue with him thanking Pres Obama for coming to his assistance and that the President was doing a good job.  I'll try to find a news link.

Lassie - tee, hee....YUP!  Never looked at it that way - but it sure does.

    rr- loved the article thanks..

BLUE - as if I weren't scared enough by even the rmote possibility - yikes. TERROR reigns...thanks to the Electoral College - at least BHO will top 300 ( needs 270) we can sleep at night.  Angels brought someone named Moroni tablets in gold saying, WHAT? That was all on "record" , not surprising many peope called it a cult.  I never knew much about it. Didn't realize it was all Made in America stuff....right up there with Scientology, the 2 major "religions" created in the USA.  Interesting...

Wonder how long it will take us to get all the voted counted this election...gonna have to really stock up on popcorn if it's another 2000....

cp418 -- I think that is closer to what I saw.....that it was not what I saw as well yesterday about the Mrudock tweet, but was new today from the Republican party.  Now seeing that Gov. Christie has in fact, come out for Romeny.....I'm thinking it was more from 'today'.

It still looks like strange blackmail to me.  Both Dh and I said again today that we would be doing straight Democratic tickets.  The above is so much a part of the reason.

I swear to you, this financial liason between someone like Mitt Romney with the LDS church is so not surprising.  It is business, big business and that includes having allies in political positions.  This is not just a Sunday morning relationship.  In my life, I have been close to someone who is in a similar position to Romney's position in the church.  I've seen and heard more than I can even tell you.

Lindasa - that Daily Kos story is incredible. What Romney did is money laundering. Plain and simple.

Thank goodness we get to celebrate on Tuesday or Wednesday.

What an idiot in the Republican Party who put out that story about CC being first choice for VP (if it's even the truth, and that is questionable).  What's the Republican governor suppose to say to and about the POTUS when his state is under water - oh, yeah, lie and act ingracious?  I'm sure it's just a Romney campaign official who wants to find someone to blame when Romney loses. I can't wait for the Game Change book for this campaign!

I must say, I'm very very curious about Romney's taxes.  I wonder when he'll end up filing his 1040X for not totallly declaring his Mormon business deduction for 2011?  I would like to know how someone gets over $100 million dollars into an IRA!!
