today, i headed out to race my bike at one of the local cyclocross races, and i found some serious joy out there on the race course.  no, i didn't win in the sense of coming first.  but wow did i win in the sense that i lost myself in the experience of racing my bike....  i far exceded my expectations in terms of performance, too.  it was glorious.

this thread is all about posting a wee bit of joy.  if you found some joy in your day, please post it here.

an additional bit of joy at the races included a cancer moment - a friend of mine was diagnosed with lympohma about the same time as i was diagnosed with bc.  and she and i had a nice 4 or 5 minutes just talking about recovery and strengthening and joy.

overall - a fantastic day - finished off with taking children (mine plus some extras) out for pizza and hooking up with a bunch of friends and a pitcher of fulton's lonely blond (fantastic local brew).

    Joy from my day:

My DD and her BF made the most delicious homemade apple pie I have ever eaten...I was lost in its awesomeness.

My youngest DD left me a handwritten note...she's 18...

My DH has taken extra special care of me and today he felt a little better...because I was feeling better.

And...my baby puppy had a puppy dream...I stop and listen and watch every one of those that I can...

On Wednesday I visited my 2 grand daughters,  2 1/2 years and 6 weeks old.   I put my thumb out for the baby and she grabbed it, then I put the other one out and she grabbed it.   Too sweet for words.

    JOY JOY JOY!!!!!

I headed out for the races this morning - it was cold... the child in tow...  His race was at 10a.  We pre-rode the course. He listened to my coaching. He was EXCITED!  Then, he proceeded to ROCK IT!!!!  Never seen that child race so well!  It was fantastic.

Then...  the fantastic luck of a JUMPY CASTLE at the races...  so, I did my race about an hour later, and had such an incredible time. I completely lost myself in that race... and I ...  cough cough...  beat this one racer that I really really really wanted to beat...  Snicker.  THat was some sweet icing on a fabulous cake of a day!

I feel so alive when I race and am able to lose myself in the experience like that.

And, like the race I discussed about (this one majorly outshown that one!), that same friend of mine who was diagnosed with lympohma about the same time as i was diagnosed with bc... she raced... and she rocked it!

    YES!!!!!

Today my family of five went out to a really nice lunch at a 125 year old home, sitting in 70 degree sunshine on the old southern porch. The food was incredible, and that is saying something since we are vegetarians that eat pretty clean. Afterwards we were walking and noticed a street festival. After enjoying some great artwork, we sat in the grass in the warm sun listening to bluegrass music. Absolutely LOVED it!!!

I had the most fun ever at a Halloween Party this past week.  Was at the wine bar, so regular tipple was renamed things like "Venomous Viognier".  We started with champagne and a bite to eat and then moved on to the "libations".  This was followed by telling ghoulish and lurid tales as directed by a card game.  It was a blast!  (Not quite as much joy the next day though, for some unknown reason.)  Next year, I come up with a kick-butt costume as totally dropped the ball that way.

More joy....did 35 miles of cycling in the autumn weather today.  Just so glorious if threatening.  I feel wonderful.

I can't wait for enough snow to go cross country skiing again.

Oops....forgot to mention the walk earlier this week when I rewarded myself with a pear-hazelnut frangipain tart.  I got the scoop on the pastry chef.  He used to cook at some of the great four star hotels.  I believe it.  This is his retirement gig!!!  And I am lucky enough to live within walking distance of such a place.

I just put the most amazing pink roses ever in a vase.  $5 at the supermarket.

I was able to flash my bicycle front light at the oncoming car so the "chickens crossing the road" were all safe.  I left them happily eating worms amongst fall vegetables while on my ride.

I am about to slide into a fragrant bubble bath.  Dinner is made....wonderful fish dish from last night.  All my friends on the East Coast are OK.  And my roses are gorgeous! - Claire

I also went to a fun Halloween Party, dressed as the Bingo Bag Lady.   No one recognized me.   Dread locks wig, face smeared with combo of powdered cheek color and eyebrow pencil,  hump on my back made with a "falsie" pinned to my shirt, 2 diff colored Crocs, striped sox, capri pants with patches sewn on, Striped t shirt, plaid man's shirt, a cane and my Bingo bag.    I did not win a prize because the winners had "store bought" or rented costumes, but that is ok - still a lot of fun.

Last night was a friend's 50th birthday bash and good fun again.    At midnight it was still going strong, but i went home before i fell asleep.

It's a beautiful cool morning and I am refreshed from the extra hour of sleep. I am drinking an amazing cup of hazelnut coffee and I am ready for the day ahead.

extra hour of sleep = wonderful.

second day of racing... on the edge of control... and just exceeding my expectations...  absolutely wonderful....

i feel sooooo very alive today, and i feel so very grateful for my strength and my fitness, even if i'm not yet at 100%.... i'm a lot closer than i expected to be!

oh yeah, and i love my bikes!!!!  i love them all - and don't tell any of them any different!

hope all y'all had a great weekend.

ps - how's the skiing in seattle?  is it good?  i am hoping for a good ski season here in mn this year.  i love cross country and skate....

It's wet snow in the Cascades and a lot of it.  But wonderful when conditions are good.  There is one point where you can see down the Snoqualmie Valley, past Seattle, and on to the Olympic Mountains on the other side of the Puget Sound.  I try to get there at least once a season on a clear day.  Didn't make it last winter as ankle wasn't strong enough to hold a snowplow for miles and miles coming down.

I often feel on top of the world.  It's just amazing.

I have promised myself to finally go to Winthrop and ski those trails this winter.  A different experience.  I still want to do hut to hut.  I certainly am fit enough to do 15-20 miles between huts.  And you HAVE TO EAT to recover.

Reminder to buy boots with more support.  I will need them with my ankle, and my old ones are a biohazard anyway.

This weekend was dark, rainy, and quite beautiful cycling.  Amazing colors and textures.  I cycled 70 miles, but really slow as didn't want to end on my butt.  I didn't.

Feel amazing and quite refreshed. - Claire

OMG, reading your posts makes me more eager to get a life (I didn't have much of one before BC ... other issues ... so it's been a loooong time). What can I say ... I made a pot of chili! It was delicious, or maybe it just seemed like that because of the wine, but who cares, I loved it. Woo hoo!

Also I found this inspirational message, which may not qualify as "fun," but it's working for me (or maybe it's still the wine Laughing. Use left and right arrows to navigate.).

Lou, love the message. So inspirational. Not sure how fun it was, but I bought a new Dutch oven and made a roast in it. Never done it before. It was absolutely yummy. I find joy in food. That counts doesn't it? Lol

Took a lunch-time walk in the cemetery where I work.  The cemetery dates back to 1812 and consists of nearly 100 acres of beautifully wooded, landscaped, historical loveliness.  I saw a pair of peregrine falcons, a red-tailed hawk, dozens of busy chipmunks, a family of rabbits, and a pair of really fat woodchucks.  The leaves are gorgeous, there are pots and pots of chrysanthemums, the chestnuts are dropping their fruit and the air is wonderfully cold and fresh.

Spending a week in Laguna Beach - oh, what a beautiful place!

Just got back from a romantic dinner at our favorite restaurant overlooking the water.

Brilliant sunset, amazing food (after both of us have been on such severely restricted diets for so long) - life is good!

I couldn't be more thrilled to have woken up this morning to my sweet orange cat purring and curling himself up with me to snuggle. Each of my 3 kids(11,13 and 15) came into my bedroom to see how I am doing this morning :) after my husband had already left for work...it's chilly outside and I'm almost 3 weeks past mastectomy, and am going to go for a walk to enjoy just being alive! :)

My joy, this week 4 month checkup after finishing 14 rounds of Abraxane-Bone Scan and CAT scans are the same, cancer markers down to 25, so things are at a stand-still for now!  Thank goodness for Aromacin, which seems to be the trick, lets just pray that progression will be very slow.  I take each day as a blessing, rain or shine!

It sometimes really can be the little things.  Found holiday pierced earrings last night, only $4.50.  Santa's head on one side and his butt on the other.  With my new short hair, they really show off.  Can't wait to wear them.   Going to a consignoemt store today to look for a sweater for an ugly holiday sweater party.  Do you know you can google ulgy holidya sweaters and there are a bunch of sites.  Some so very ugly, but more $ than I want to spend for a joke, so off to the consignment stores I go.  Given that I barely rememember what was going on in my  life last year at this time, I am going with the joy in little things this year

    Be well
