Fuzzy - long time no chat. Did you realize you and I were diagnosed within two days of each other? It's been a hard road.
-
Windlass, hellooooo remember your first night on the insomnia thread? NancyNow and, That's Life, and I were just going to sign off and you came needing help for something? We all hung in there till it was okay. Nancy's active here too.
Ginger--had a duh moment--Cuomo sent a letter to several power companies in NEW YORK STATE. Telling them they were going to be investigated and if the did not have adequate disaster /recovery plans, he was going to take action against them. Probably dovetails to areas that aren't recovering as fast as others? --Google key words Sandy update cuomo letter to power companies.
Sheila nice to see you back, or were we someplace else? I'll just be sassy when we are together Sheila er sassy
Veggy , Crog, Wren, w6 in on the group hug.

Greetings and welcome Mary. My grandmother's name was Mary. And Sheila, I can't tell you what a relief it was to see your little flower and your hellos.
Good grief, Veggy. I'm not sure I can take much more of this, except to say it's about dang time they realized you were in need of much better care. But gosh, first a lumpectomy and six million years later a huge thyroid problem, then after a hundred millenium they do the mastectomy deal, and then because it screws up, you get anoter wonderful operation that bleeds all over the place and you get more cancer in the sternum and femur. WHATSSUP with that??? Poor service, do you live on the wromg side of the hill in PA? I am SO sorry for all this really goofed up situation. I DO remember that treatment, while hard, was good for me. I SO needed to rest and I appreciated help I received.
I AM glad you got you another haircut a few days ago, tho. I put some blonde dye on my hair to cover the gray. Next is some mircle lotion to make my face look like I'm seven years old again. So, I like the way you handle these things, you attractive redhead, you.
My Dear Nancy, don't you know, sweet girl, that when you live with terrible pain, it can scramble your brains and wreck your day? I was slobbering all over my father's shirt whilst he waited to pay the restaurant bill because just before I couldn't get out of my chair. And there's not one damn thing you can do about it. I have peripheral neuropathy and some lymphedema, not to mention old fractured back and other stuff. Took ten years to get my meds straight. For what it's worth, I now take Tylenol-Codeine #4 and it helps a LOT with my poor feet. Any opiate will help. You cannot ask for it, other than, "Could I perhaps have something stronger for this, please sir?" One good thing for sore feet is I somehow balance on the side of the tub and let warm water spill over them, towel off, soft socks, much better. I also had to buy shoes a couple sizes larger with some of those soft things in there.
DUNE, awwwwww, our girl had a good time all over the place and feels guilty. How evil is that!!?? Hahaha. Silly, sillly girl. That's not bad; you just went off this VERY overly strict life plan of yours, that's all. Don't go too far the other way and become a nun, tho! I don't get why the guy who had the wherewithall to put you a porch roof cannot fix it back as it was AT THE VERY LEAST?! The rest, after you get him straight on fixing the roof, you can just sort of cry and wimper a little about how the water came in and soaked your insulation, and ran down the walls in a couple places. He SHOULD offer to take care of it. But if not, at least the roof will be okay and you'll only have this short-term dampness problem that you can forget about. And yes, forgetttabout the kitchen details, too, just finish painting and find something else you like to do.
Cindy (crog) Wow, your stitches are all out! Amazing recovery. But I suppose the whole appearance thing is rather sad, tho. But soon you'll get used to it, particularly when you get your new dazzling Jaquar XKE walking robot. I'm reminded about various socks they have to put on that leg, but seems to me there should be some sort of design kinds, and very soft. Husband has the most divine throw, 100 percent polyester, and hard to believe but Kmart China, for Essential Home, maybe you could cut one up (with a cute design) to match one of the real socks, or as an "over" sock. I'm just fascinated by your home nurse who will help you with adjusting to being bionic.
Fuzzy, Fuzzzy, Fuzzy, my owne true sister, how I hear you and know you so well, tho we're hundreds and hundreds of miles away, you're with me. See, just like your puppy needs you so very much, so do I, and so does everyone here. I have on my computer playlist now Donovan's "Catch the Wind," from the live album, and it makes me think of
you. I finally got pretty much everything I wanted with my meds, RELIEF, and I feel so much better. Oh, I'm still tired, stuff still hurts, I have a little lymphedema that comes and goes, but I attribute feeling better to the right meds. I love your idea of meeting up at good hotels, for room service and sleep overs, but I really do have a problem with going places, mostly from my back and feet. And my confusion is pretty serious. I could consider taking a train to D.C., there's a station about a couple-hour ride from my house. Husband would probably appreciate the quiet after dropping me at the depot. Just as long as our bunch has room service and free movies!! Smile. And if anyone is poor, just private message me and I'll pick up your tab, with never a word, just give my name to the hotel, for I will have told them.
SASSY, I'm fascinated by your mysterious events and I love you for revealing it to us. It's almost like reading a novel. Let's see, the only message from the dead that I ever received has endless meaning to me. Our old dog Beauregard, a German Shepherd Dog rescue, when we took him to be cremated, we took him ourselves to see how things went. We left him there for a couple days. Well, when we came back after dropping him off, came up on the porch, and right directly in the center of the front porch door was a fair-sized rock, the kind he liked to chew on and carry around, it was just sitting there. Not one other rock or dirt or anything else was there. Just that one rock. Beau left it for us. And to this day we keep it in front of a photograph of him on top of the living room cabinet. He was a powerful creature, but tremendously sweet, I think it takes some effort for them to move stuff around. So, as for your visitations, I recall what in the world would we do if someone came at us in the middle of the night. I keep a knife at bedside. Husband and I keep several other things in diff parts of the house. We hate cell phones, but that would be handy. Both of us have also studied martial
arts, which would be a wonderful thing for you to spend time doing. If this shadow is bothering you somehow, you may thank them for helping you, but you'll be okay so they can let you go for now. And they will surely drift away from you. Oh, and drink a little extra water with your meds, too. Someone very strong cares about you so much. GG

Windlass....OMG!! Yes I do! We talked one day a looooong time ago! Great to hear from you!!! I'd love to know what's happening in your world!!
GG....my magical darling sister. I need you too. Everyone here. I would love to meet up in DC. The spring would be nice....with the cherry trees blooming. Movies and room service....perfect!!

My DH got me out of bed and wants to have breakfast...very unusual. I'm rarely out of bed before 11 anymore. So, we're on our way and I'm bringing everyone with us!! LOL
xoxoxoxoxxxxooooxxxxoooo -
Fuzzy - Nice breakfast! Being a hermit today and yesterday for that matter. Talked myself out of SS/church again today. But will in a little start on work paperwork - that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Beautiful day here in N Central Texas. 69 degrees 1030am for the weather report.
Turned in my job resignation on Thursday, last day Nov. 30. Hopefully we will make it without my salary. Expect next summer I will sign up to do flu shot clinics. I think you can do it only a few days a week. Will have to some investigation. 'Course that means driving back into Ft. Worth or further for the job. Have considered applying for WalMart stocker. It will be an interesting year. Keeping my nursing license.

Thanks dogeyed ....I took a little vacation from the boards....
fuzzy.....Did you make breakfast or went out??????????
Sheila to Sas....Good idea using different names......

Oh, dearest VEGGY, I do love you so much. I still have so much to tell everybody but my typing is getting very bad. But I just gotta tell you something sooooo funny. I had to get my driver's license renewed. It was already two years expired when I got cancer and lost my waist-long hair, so had to wait until I got SOME of it back. Well, then all this junk came up about voter I.D., which I didn't need, but in my confused state, I got it and went to vote. So I didn't study or anything, I'm still in the "screw all of you people" part of my cancer crap, and I usually do fine on the street signs, but to start this whole thing out, I missed THREE out of TEN. Ye gads. So, off to the REAL test, which I managed to Ace, just missed one, which had to do with criminal use of my licemse, which how the hell am I gonna know that? (A) Ten years of probation, (B) Removal of automobile, or (C) Handcuff to an unmarked railroad sign and receive firing squad execution forthwith. What???? I began to mumble and was told to be quiet. SIGH. Then outside and proceeded with a perfect driving test, until we finished and I was relieved to get back to the DMV parking lot. That's when I pulled up in a diff place than before, and the dignified smartly trimmed moustached grandfather aviation pilot said, "Are you in need of a handcicap parking place?" I about died. I parked right in front of one of those dang signs, blue markings all over the place, orange A-shaped thingys. I quickly apologized, then just as quickly I backed up to park in my old space, and the occifer grandfather said, "Hold on, somebody is coming!" OH NO. I had not even looked because I thought it was just a little one-way alley. Fairly near-miss. My man with every badge available on himself said, "You almost hit an undercover Sheriff's truck." "I did?" "Yes, you did." "I am so sorry, sir." So, I looked everywhere including the sky before I drove over to my space, crossways a little over the lines, and stopped the car. My sheriff put on his cowboy hat, and he says, and I KID YOU NOT, "You really need to get one of those little insect cannisters and and bomb out all these spiders and stuff you have in here." "Spiders?" "Yes, right over here, and in here, and near you." I couldn't see one dang spider, but I can't see much anyhow. In fact, I could barely read the top line of my sign test, the letters looked like little lions and tigers. All thru this comedy of errors, I was being as funny as humanly possible and my license boss never laughed, until I said at the picture thing, "You know, sir, I DO think that Sheriff's truck was going a tad rapidly thru there " (Woody Allen quote). He sort of let out a partial silly guffaw. And he did kindly show me my pic, and it wasn't half bad for a woman in my condition. I have no idea how I got that driver's license. And I was told to shut up at the voting place, too. I normally just sit quietly at my desk with my hands folded neatly, but that's not who I am anymore. Oh, and FUZZ, I almost forgot to tell you when you were talking about attending a shooting range event, I was thinking the EXACT SAME THING. Love, Gail
-
Gail, that was the only time "whomever" came, but since schatzi was happy, I decided it was a friend. I would think it was DH. Schatzi is skittish about LOTS. But there was no message? So can't figure out the visitation. Beauregard sounds very special, i'm sure you get great comfort every time you look at it.
Yes it was amazing that you passed the test--those testers can be real buggers for the slightest infraction.
Veggy as I said we can relight the fire Let go of those tears.((((HUGS)))))))
Luvmygoats---Know how your feeling sweetie, I so miss nursing. The difference between us, is I let my license go. As long as you hold on to it, you can at least change your mind. It was not what I envisioned would be happening. I wanted to be like Lillian Carter(Jimmy Carters Mom), she was working at 70 in a foreign country.
Sassy to Sheila
L&H&P's to everyone Sassy

Fuzzy, I gotta tell you, I have been struggling since Sandy hit, and just as I thought I was recovering from that, a person who used to be a friend screwed me over royally. I'm holding it together as best I can, but as I mentioned earlier, I am down to half a dose of the SSRI every other day. Do our emotions remain so raw for long once we get off the stuff, because if so, I want a freaking lobotomy! Seriously, though. You have been through this. Do you still get that kicked in the stomach, ill, feeling when life hands you shit?
And I am sooo sorry about your Aunt. That is the most terrifying illness I can imagine.
And veggy . . . I just don't know what to say. You got terrible news, but you can fight it. You have lots of people who care about you right here. We will help you any way we can.
Happy birthday Granny Dukes. I'm sorry Sandy spoiled it for you, and I hope you get your power back, like now!
-
Dune----here is a big hugggggggg .......no so called friend is worth any more stress then you already have....kick her in the ass and say goodby...I have a big broom and i sweep so called friends right out of my life....i have enuf shit on my plate to worry about people...my kids have an exclusive on drivin me nuts.
We love you.huggggs grannydukes

You got it Granny. Consider that horrible POS swept away. She fooled me for the last time. There is simply no excuse for what she did. You'd think I had actually done something to harm her. No. I opened my house to her and her animals for 6 months. When I needed my space back, I paid for the moving truck and the gas and I drove it. I was still recovering from 3rd degree burns at the time. We had harsh words back and forth a couple years ago and did not talk again until after my cancer diagnosis. So, she tells me she wants to buy one of my illustrations. I paid to have it processed and drove it to where she works (way on the other side of town), as we arranged. She took off work for the week. This is after having to borrow money from mom to fix the roof -- which she knew about. Why did she feel the need to cause me financial harm? I spent years helping her financially. I'm pretty blown away by it, and you can be sure that relationship is ended.
-
Veggy, I'm so sorry for all your tears. I wish there was something I could say or do, but I know there's not....only time can help.
Cindy, I hope you continue to heal, without complications.
Happy Birthday grannydukes!
-
Thanks gracie1... I wish that would happen too but the visiting nurse just left and she is calling my surgeons office because there is an area she does not like the looks of. She thinks they may need to do a revision. I am just so sick of all of this.... Can't anything go right!!!!!
I am off to the dentist and then hoping my surgeon can get me in today to take a look at the area..
Cindy -
Good morning all my Fuzzy Sisters:-) Haven't been here much lately so i'm trying to catch up. I have finally arrived at my moms so that part of my move is over, lots left to unpack and two dear friends are coming to visit later this month Nd bringing the rest of my stuff. Glad to be away from work my friend quit 3 days after i left so it'll be chaos there.
Trying to catch up with some of the posts, F'ing hate what this disease is doing to all of us!!!
Love and hugs -
Cindy, shit! I feel so bad for you. I sure hope you're not in too much pain. I can only imagine the toll all this is taking. Hope to hear some good news after the surgeon has a look at you.
Ridergirl, glad to hear the bulk of the move is over....and I agree, what cancer does....can't find the words, but if I could they'd be beyond filthy.
-
gracie1. I got into see the surgeon after my dentist appointment. He was glad I came in but he feels that underneath all the yucky stuff (he took a piece of the yucky off and looked underneath it) that it is superficial and that it will just take longer to heal. I sure hope he is right!!!!! Visiting nurse will come in and check it till I go back to him next Monday.....

Crog go back and read my notes aboute how to evaluate a wound. An option before a revision make be to try antibiotics as I said earlier. A secong option may be to open the area at the incision line and do what's called and Incicison and drainage. I & D . Pack it with something like silver alginate and let it fill in from beneath. The two are common practice. Silver alginate is just a super antimicrobial dressing material. Impregnated with silver in an absorbent dressing. Changed every 3rd day. Push for involvement of a Wound Care Specialist. Even hybebaric chamber may be an option before surgical revision. Actually some definitions need to be stated. Surgical revision is used to describe and incision or incisional area that is anatomical not put back together right. I.e the skin incision or something about the underlying tissue usually muscle or tendons or ligaments are not doing what is expected. For example a suture or series of sutures have given way. Use construction as an example, putting in a door frame and it is not level, the door won't shut. The workmean has to take the door apart to see why it is unlevel. That's a Revision. Last week you said the inner aspect was angry looking. That indicated either infection or lack of blood suppy. Remember when I said to lay down and evaluate it. That would take the pressure off the blood supply. If it were just blood supply then the inner araea should have returned to normal color. If it were infection the color would remain red, might be slightly less angry, but not much..
So, if they open it , drain it, pack with whatever miracle dressing they want to use, then dress it with gauze and a stump stock--it's an infection. If this is the sequence they use -DO NOT let them off the hook, if they try to say "We just had to revise this b/c it's not healing right and oh BTW we are going to put you on antibiotics just in case ".
If they open the incision either b/c of infection or there is truly a structural revision need, Require that they do the following 1 GRAM STAIN that is processed by the lab STAT(immediately), 2.Culture and sensitivity for both Aerobic and anaerobic organisms. They will balk at the Gram Stain. The Gram stain is important b/c in this day and age, bacteria sometimes won't culture up, odd but true-long reason. At least with the Gram stain they know what bacteria is present. It will help if the culture doesn't grow anything And help them choose an initial antibiotic
The culture needs 48 hrs to grow, and another 24 hrs for antibiotic sensitivity to be determined for a total of 72hrs. What they will do in the meantime is put you on a broad spectrum antibiotic. If that antibioctic is sensitive to the organism , you will remain on it to the completion of the course of therapy. If the bacteria is not sensitive to the antibiotic, they will start a new antibiotic. This part I tell you b/c the iniatial reaction when the antibiotic is changed, is that they made and error. Until sensitivity is determined the Standard OF Care is to use the most appropriate antibiotic for the area in question. Some antibiotics that would be appropriate are Keflex(cephlaxien), Levaquin(fluroquinolone group), Clindamycin(erythromycin group). The big gun would be Vancomycin(needs a pic line or port). There are other drugs, but they wouldn't be first choice drugs. They would only be used if the sensitivity indicated there use.
Please go back to my last post, study it well. The inner aspect was angry last week. If it is an infection you have every patient right to be given an explanation as to why the docs didn't act then.
Also, ask that if there is infection, would Hyperbaric be indicated? Also, get that Wound Care Specialist evaluation asap.
Sorry, Crog you don't need this.
-
Crog.........tell your Dentist that the stump may be infected , They may want to delay treatment
Crog hope this thing about the dentist caught you
You need to be seen in the office today or tomorrow by the surgeon---please trust me on this. If they can't see you in the office have him meet you in ER. DON"t register as an Er patient .Tell the triage nurse you are meeting your doc for stump evaluation
