RR...your little guy isn't jumping for me so I just shook my Kindle. Same effect. ;-)
-
Aw, sorry. I'm glad you came up with a work-around. You>

-
He's jumping for my pc!
-
He's an iPad jumper. Cute too.

As usual, I heard it on this thread first...Rachel Maddow recounting how the Romney campaign gave attendees at an Ohio rally donation goods so that they could hand them to Romney and make it look as though he was receiving food for the needy, when the campaign had actually gone and bought everything.
-
Signing out to go get my NBC fix.
Jackie
-
Alexandria - what sort of symptoms have you been having? PM me, I'm interested because I should probably go and have one too.
Home from the breast surgeon - she has demoted me to annual check ups!!! Yaaayy!!! Still nagging me about my goitre, but I will do the US as she's asked, not sure when - might leave it until after Xmas.
Steve and I going out to the local pub for lunch.

The surgeon I see asked me to have a colonoscopy a year after chemo finished. He sees a connection between breast cancer and colon cancer. I had a polyp the first time so it was back again in two years which was this month. Of course, I wasn't too keen about it during the prep. At the hospital one of the very nice nurses who looked after me (with a heated blanket!) told me that her sister in law had both breast and colon cancer, caught early, treated and she is well now. That kind of convinced me to go again in three years time as recommended instead of duck it.
-
I'm going for my 2nd colonoscopy next Wednesday, for the same reasons as you, Lassie. I had a (non-cancerous) polyp found on my first one 2 years ago. That earned me a 2 year repeat. I'm hoping that this time, no polyps will be found and I can perhaps go to 5 years.
The prep is worse than the actual test. It wasn't horrible, but it's certainly nothing I'm looking forward to.

Lassie - is there any particular reason your surgeon told you to wait a year after chemo? I finished chemo August 1, but wanted to do the colonoscopy I was suppose to have last year (instead of getting BC), before the end of this year. I have the Pre-meeting in November. Is there any thought to the tissues being more susceptible to perforation too close to chemo?
-
Suzie, that is wonderful news!! Really enjoy your celebration with Steve. May you both never see cancer again.
Lawrence O'Donnel with a great opening tonight (paraphrase) "The good news Sandy brought for Romney - people forgot about the fact that he didn't release his tax returns. The bad news Sandy bought for Romney: everyone forgot about Mitt Romney."
-
Thanks Athena - still worry about mets though as we all probably do. Seems silly having the whole day off, I should have done a work from home day - still it gives me a chance to be lazy

-
We certainly do worry about mets - that is our life curse, unfortunately - but a downgrade is a wonderful bit of comfort. Enjoy!
-
Its hard to pm with this phone but basically i had a change in bowel habits that's lasted a few weeks. The gastoenterologist who used to be at sloan kettering thinks its lactose intolerance or ibs but since he thinks there's a link between bc and colon cancer he got me in for this quickly. The prep is miserable.
I miss Lawrence along with Rachel. -
I figured the first colonoscopy was well after chemo because he knew I was not so interested in anything medical for some time. It might have been sooner than a year (can't recall exactly) but I don't know that the timing had anything to do with after effects of chemo - except the real effect of not really wanting to go to the hospital for anything for a while.
-
Got it..thanks Lassie. I should probably just verify the timing with my MO. After waiting to get my teeth cleaned for a full year (too much stuff with BC, then chemo), I finally got that done today. Tying up all of those health loosends. I have to tell you, my teeth are so dang sensitive, even with N20 the first scrape with a metal tool made me jump and had me thinking, this is worse than surgery! My hygienist forgot to bring out the plastic toolset. After that, I settled in nicely with the gas and it was probably the only "high" I've had all year.
I was on standby last Friday to pick up a gf from a colonoscopy. She really just wanted to walk home, but in case they wouldn't let her out without an escort, I would be there. She got out and walked to my office. She said the walking helps pass the excess air. She then went from my office to a Rummage Sale across the street....I'm thinking, why isn't this woman hungry??!!!

(((Sandy))) tomorrow will be here before you know it.
I am amazed at how free some of the press has become. I remember in 2008 there was such reticence to accuse anyone of lying, even in the liberal media. Not anymore. Mitt has freed us all of such constraints. I think I heard every synonym of lying by O'Donnel and guests. And Rachel, who pointed out that Romney was the first one who lied about a third party - namely, about Ohio to Ohioans.
At least Karl Rove knew to only lie about one's opponent. Karl must be furious at the clumsiness with which these republicans prevaricate.
-
Alexandria - i hope you get your power on soon. Have they given you a time estimate? You got me thinking about another winter power outage and I bought another 5 gallon gas can today for my generator. When I remodeled my house, I had 3 special plugs installed and wired to my portable generator.... my refridgerator, my electric start heater and tv/computer. Theoretically, I just start the generator and switch my plugs. There is still the issue with running out of gasoline in this town, though. A wood stove would suffice, but this was actually cheaper.
-
LOL -Lawrence O'Donell is rocking tonight. He played a clip in which Mitt told about how he ands others had cleaned up a football field - in an attempt to draw a parallel with a cleanup of Sandy. The clip ended and O'Donell said, shaking his head, "no, no, no."
Sandy - our blogging is not as good as watching the real thing, but hope you enjoy our BCO TV. :-)

Here's another story that may soon appear on RM or LO:
btw, this is not surprising. Department by department, function by function, GW tried to privatize my federal agency. Intelligence fought it, delayed it, defeated it.....they did privatize our fleet management, but at great peril to our personnel and the public, and the taxpayers ate it. "They" are the kings of Crony Capitalism
The REAL Reason Why Republicans Want To Abolish FEMA: So They Can Profit From Natural Disasters
It looks like we finally know the reason why Republicans are refusing to fund FEMA, the federal agency that responds to natural disasters.
Former Republican Governor Jeb Bush is set to lead a newly formed FOR-PROFIT natural disaster response company. According to the Maritime Executive, Bush’s newly created firm, Old Rhodes Holding LLC, joined forces with O’Brien’s Response Management, a subsidiary of SEACOR Holdings, to form a for-profit disaster response company.
“We are pleased to enter into this partnership with one of the leading response organizations in the United States, backed by SEACOR’s global network,” Bush said. “Together we look forward to helping a broader array of organizations and communities become more resilient through preparation, response, communication and recovery.”
Of course, this response team only helps people for a price. Rather than come to the aid of people affected by a natural disaster out of the kindness of their hearts, like FEMA and other organizations do, the response team led by the former Florida Governor will respond to disasters if the price is right. In other words, they’ll profit off of death and destruction.
All of this comes as House Republicans continue their assault against FEMA, an organization that helps people at no charge beyond the taxes paid to the United States Government by the American people. This is all too coincidental to not be connected in some way. If FEMA is non-existent, people, cities, and states would have to hire disaster response companies to come to their aid which is a recipe for fraud, as these companies could hold disaster areas hostage until they get the price they demand. Worse, these response companies could hold individual disaster victims hostage until the company gets the price it wants or ignore helpless victims altogether if they don’t pay the fee. Remember the home in Tennessee a couple years ago that was allowed to burn down by the local for-profit fire house because the residents failed to pay the fee? Well, you can bet that same scenario will play out across the country and on a more sickening scale.

These people are nucking futz!!!!
-
The news reports on that Bush business is from sept 2011. Digging around, they won't be helping you and me........au contraire........they are after deep pockets:
"Not surprisingly, oil spills are big business. Just ask the experts at O'Brien's Response Management, and their brand new "for-profit disaster response" business partner Jeb Bush."
Better yet, ask their clients:
BP
Transocean
ExxonMobil
Marathon
Repsol
ConocoPhillips
Kinder Morgan

Athena: enjoying yes /no TV. I was wondering if someone would pick up on mitt and the football field
Estimate on power is Monday.
,!
Battery getting low. Will recharge in the car tomorrow. -
This is Halloween. To finish off the day in an appropriately spooky fashion.Wonder how many tons of concrete and steel and how much toxic sludge they had on that football field huh?Edited to fix link
-
Romney has always been and will always be a loser. End of story.
Jackie
-
Alexandria - thanks. The reason I won't have one is the prep - having watched my husband have many, it put me right off. Hope it goes Ok for you and you get power back soon.
Athena - you are right (as usual) and I feel really happy she's downgraded me - the 6 monthly thing was wearing really thin.
Well, Steve is away from tomorrow until Monday, so Lean Cuisine here I come. The markets are on this Sunday, so I expect to be there bright and early for my usual fish etc.

My maternal aunt died of colon cancer in her late 60's. I had a large polyp removed a few years ago (had to be done through surgery as it was too big to be taken out during the colonoscopy). My last colonoscopy 2 years ago was clean. But it is definitely something I plan to stay on top of.
