HL, it's hilarious that Robme really believes voters think that way! I would have had some respect for him if he had offered up a reasoned argument about why FEMA should be privitized, in line with his PREVIOUS, loudly proclaimed, position. Still wouldn't have voted for him, but he would not appear as despicable as he currently does to me.

Linda, too funny. I drove by a house the other day that had both a Romney/Ryan and an Obama/Biden sign. I was telling my sister that their house must be very interesting right now.

I've also been enjoying the links here but working on a project promoting down-ticket races so haven't had time to respond much. - Back to work!

Linda, that is so funny!

We've been having a bit of a challenge in our home. My son may be disabled in various ways but we have always voted and discussed the issues and candidates. So when he reached 18 he wanted to vote and registered. He struggles at the polls because of his dyslexia and I can't help him. So he votes the major offices but passes on bond issues and judges of obscure courts. Heck I don't know who half of those folks are.



So this year he has decided based on the nastier ads that all politicians are liars and cheaters and insisting he won't vote for anyone.



Still trying to craft my argument that he should at least consider what the two parties stand for and how they would represent him, a permanently disabled member of the 47%. Haven't made a dent quite yet. Actually I'm not sure that he wasn't embarrassed last time trying to use the new machine and he may be creating an issue to avoid the stress.



Maybe some would say he shouldn't be allowed to vote, but I feel he has an opinion and with our help he should be able to at least vote for major offices.

WR mucho correct cartoon.  I really about lost it when I heard about the non-campaign, campaign, but then to find " donations " purchased from a nearby Wal-Mart --- so many sort of adjectives come to mind....wheeler-dealer, sleaze-bag, flim-flammer, and last but not least --- total con artist.  Hard to believe the Regressives can even tolerate such, since I consider they are just as dis-respectful to the storm victims when they let this 'up-standing' or maybe I should just say standing up candidate get by with such shameful, shameful maneuvers.  What a disgrace to people everywhere.  He has gone beyond disgraceful, disrespectful, and despicable.  He has no morals other than those he would present to you for personal gain.  

I think he has done more in these last few "storm" days to wilt his chances than his whole ugly, lie mongering campaign.   There is something not quite human in this person and it is an ugly, ugly thing.

So heartened by the briefing Pres. gave with Gov. Christie this afternoon.  Brings joy to my heart and soul.  This is a President who really knows how to be one.

Romney’s Post-Truth Campaign: Auto Rescue Edition

Last week, Mitt Romney made now infamous comments in Defiance, Ohio claiming that Jeep was going to “move all production” to China. The comments were immediately exposed as completely false. This, however, did not stop the Romney campaign from doubling down on the comments and making several other misleading claims in a TV spot. And when that ad came in for heavy criticism, they again doubled down by putting out an even more egregiously misleading radio ad about the auto bailout.

Well, the reviews of Romney’s desperate Ohio Hail Mary are in — and they’re not pretty.

Fact Checkers: “Pants on Fire,” “4 Pinocchios”

Politifact gave Romney’s statements a “pants on fire,” the nineteenth such rating he has received.

Glenn Kessler, the Washington Post’s fact checker, awarded Romney four Pinocchios — his strongest possible dishonesty rating, concluding:

“This ad shows that we have entered the final, desperate week of the campaign.”

Some people are discontented with the whole system - Chickadee, I think your son may be in that category. He is not an undecided voter. For his sake, and for that of many people, I wish the United States would introduce something other countries use  - the blank vote. It enables the person to go to the polls and express himself, while telling politicians they don't suffice. I wish the blank vote had been around in '92 and '96.

But undecided as in "dunno, I can't tell the difference between Romney and Obama but I want one of them" - clueless.

I do think that, as much as we have a right to expect a lot from our candidates, we should be good citizens. Voters who can't seem to tell daylight between Romney and Obama  but plan to choose one of them should be ashamed of themselves.  

Voting is compulsory here and some people cast what they call an "ïnformal vote". In other words they fill the ballot paper out incorrectly on purpose.

Ok officially tired of this. Sitting in dark alone no phone but cell amd may have had allergy to the crap im supposed to drnk for tmorrow. Took benedrul but this is not fun. DH should be here soon. Hate the alone in the dark. May have been a mistake to go ahead with colonoscopy

Oh, Alexandria, I hope your DH has arrived and you feel better. Colonoscopy prep is horrible under the best of circumstances, but under these circumstances it is dreadful. I hope you can go out and at least find something to do to distract from the misery.



One of my favorite dyspeptic writers, Charles P. Pierce, has written his endorsement of the President, for whom he is voting. Like some progressives, he is disappointed with what the President has (and hasn't done), and he wishes he had a viable alternative. But his reasons for not voting for Nit are overwhelming:



"On the other hand, Willard Romney owes even more to the Wall Street crowd, and he owes even more to the military, but he also owes everything he is politically to the snake-handlers and the Bible-bangers, to the Creationist morons and to the people who stalk doctors and glue their heads to the clinic doors, to the reckless plutocrats and to the vote-suppressors, to the Randian fantasts and libertarian fakers, to the closeted and not-so-closeted racists who have been so empowered by the party that has given them a home, to the enemies of science and to the enemies of reason, to the devil's bargain of obvious tactical deceit and to the devil's honoraria of dark, anonymous money, and, ultimately, to those shadowy places in himself wherein Romney sold out who he might actually be to his overweening ambition. It is a fearsome bill to come due for any man, let alone one as mendaciously malleable as the Republican nominee. Obama owes the disgruntled. Romney owes the crazy. And that makes all the difference."
