A Story about high calcium

Hello Ladies

Wanted to share a story about my high calcium issues. Back in July I was told that my calcium had jumped up from 10.1 to 10.7. All other blood test were normal. The doctor suspected an adenoma on the parathyroid and I was sent back to my endocrinologist. She did scans and did find that there was a spot on my thyroid. I was sent to my surgeon to remove the growth. Since I am a breast cancer survivor he insisted on a bone scan to rule out bone metastasis. To make a long story short, the bone scan came back clear but the left kidney needed further investigation. After a CT abdominal scan, I was told that I have a 10 cm tumor on my kidney! I never had any symptoms. Ladies this is so depressing! I was just beginning to get back to life and not think about this horrible disease! Just wanted to get the information out there in case someone else is faced with this situation.

I am so sorry.  This must be an awful shock for you.

Thank you for alerting us to the importance of calcium levels.  I hope your doctors are on top of the situation and are coming up with a good treatment plan for you.

I am so sorry. My dad lost a kidney 2 years ago, because it had a massive tumor on it. In his case the tumor was precancerous and he is doing fine so far.

What are they going to do?

    So sorry......

I get ultra sounds and scans anually, all fine, but never blood work.

I am wondering if you found out the tumor only on blood work or did they do u-sound before.

Wondering if all scans are clear that maybe tumors are still present.

So sorry you are having to face this issue. Really hope discovering the tumor now means it has been found early.

BTW - high calcium on its own is not indicative of parathyroid disease ; high levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) are the determining factor.
