I hope so, HL. I cancelled my subscription after she came on.

Obama’s America—one that progresses, however falteringly, toward social justice, tolerance, and equality—represents the future that this country deserves. ♦
I'm totally astounded at how the word "progressive" is termed a dirty word by the rightwing. The opposite of progressive is regressive, and that is surely anaethema to the vast majority of U.S. citizens, for it means taking your country backwards (into the dark ages?). Going backwards means turning the U.S. into a third world nation. Going backwards is not what made the U.S. the great nation it is, but some folks don't seem to realize it......

Lindasa, as an American, I shake my head along with you. Words that I consider positive -liberal, multicultural, anti-colonial - are actually negatives for some people here.
How on earth did we get to be the most powerful country in the world?
Many empires have retrograde elements. I just didn't know they could be this strong.

HL and Athena, and now she has killed off the print version of Newsweek.
-
Oh, Athena, I haven't subscribed to the New Yorker for about 20 years because of Tina Brown! I LOATHED the woman! Maybe I should give them another try ...
ETA: RR, I saw that she had killed print Newsweek. The woman is death on magazines -- why do people think she is so great?! I fervently hope she stays the hell away from The Atlantic and Harper's!
L -
I'm hoping that the Atlantic and Harper's wouldn't have her.
-
Maybe we should send them some "Tina Brown-B-Gone" ....
;-D
L -
a freakin' giant can of it
-
That's why I love this thread! I found my people -- my people who love The Atlantic and Harper's amd the OLD New Yorker. I betcha there are some people here who remember Saturday Review, too!
L -
I miss The New Yorker's three part series on chemical weapons - way back when nobody knew what they really were. And its profile on Gary Isaac - a Wall Street trader who gave up a promising career to become a circus clown. The New Yorker didn't care about what was fashionable or in, but about what was interesting. Tina Brown didn't get that, and she took it away. Criminal.

YESSS!!! In the mid-80s, when I was in Pakistan, I read a three-part serial on food grains in the New Yorker. In the early 1990s, they had a fascinating serialization of a book on Nucor, the first cold-rolled steel plant in the United States. They also serialized John McPhee's book on the Atchafalaya River Basin and how the Army Corps of
Engineers changed the entire Mississippi River delta. Nerdy stuff, but REALLY interesting. And SHE tarted it up and took the interesting stuff away. I had had a subscription since college and let it lapse.

Athena....great article.....the word integrity reasonated heavily with me. Too many conservatives have forgotten ehat it means, if they ever knew.
Hope the debate goes well. I've done my usual of not tink about it all all during the day but getting ready to fold myself in my chair.
Mary...forgot to say that I really liked your cartoon. Soooo Romney and hopefully we wil see more of those stupid answers tonight.

Scathing indictment by CM on how empty-headed Mitt Romney is on foreign affairs.....it's a vacuum waiting to be filled by the Neocons...Romney's advisors have even said that Romney doesn't appear to have much interest in foreign affairs...yes, they did.
-
Takeaway line by Obama
You have the foreign policy of the 80's, the social policy of the 50's and economic policy of the 20's.
-
Obama spending time correcting Romney's answer on Syria.
-
Obama reviewing all of Romney's previous foreign policy statements....oh my...Romnesia is quite evident during this debate. Poor Obama...he has to keep track of Romnesia's Romnesia!
-
Rambling Romney.....
-
On to Egypt....Obama very confident.
-
Romney getting figity
-
Again, feels the same as POTUS. Obama doing things right.

-
Here it comes....Romney getting off topic, to economy...
-
Mitt talking in circles (about our role in world). Strong Strong Strong. (Kind of like his Small Business, Small Business, Small Business.) ooh - green revolution - what?
-
Obama - US is stronger now than the day he came into office. Things have been neglected, like alliances, til Obama came into office. We need to be strong via rebuilding America. Right on Obama (Romney didn't say that, I did).
-
Giants ahead 7-0 bottom of third!! (Romney still speaking)
-
Romney claiming X improvements in education in Mass....Obama "that happenned 10 years before you came into office."
-
There it goes....Romney getting rid of Obamacare "day one." (How he's going to pay for bigger military)
-
Obama - military not asking for more money.
-
Anyone home?
-
Watching your comments! I am watching but with the sound muted, for I am a chicken.
-
E - Obama is killing it.....
Romney - we have fewer ships than we did in 1916
Obama - we have fewer horses and bayonets too!
